Happy Birthday, Eric Dane!

Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane turns 37 today. Congratulations to the hunky star, who we hope has a very special day, and whose next year may be marked by the arrival of a new baby (depending on what you read). Either way, we've loved him on Grey's since the beginning.

Here's a little tribute of Eric Dane pictures to mark the occasion ...

Jesse Williams on the Cristina-Jackson Kiss and More

Last week's kiss between Cristina (Sandra Oh) and newcomer Jackson (Jesse Williams) provided an interesting romantic subplot on Grey's Anatomy. What will the aftermath be?

Williams talked with TV Guide about the potential Mercy West-Seattle Grace couplings and the return of Izzie (Katherine Heigl) on next week's episode. See what you think ...

Q: Jackson and Cristina kissed! What the ... ?

Jesse Williams: From the beginning when Jackson joined, he's immediately thrown into this direct competition with Cristina. We're on the same cases, battling for surgeries.

We've had a couple of run-ins. In this episode, she really takes charge and goes with her gut and I'm in a position to really admire her. We have similar character traits and watching her take the reins gets Jackson fired up. He's looking at her differently now.

He's seen a whole new side of Cristina that's so attractive. What also helped was that he had been boozing all night, but the attraction is real, and I think she kind of liked it.

Q: Yeah, she doesn't pull away right away. She kisses him back for a brief moment.

Jesse Williams: That would be Jackson's argument. We don't address it directly right away in the coming episodes. What we're doing is letting it hang there for a little bit and let the audience feel that tension and the moments between her and I going forward.

It's worth noting that right now Jackson doesn't know anything about Cristina and Owen (Kevin McKidd), so it's not an affront to Owen, it's just a man attracted to a woman.

Q: Are you worried that fans of Cristina and Owen are going to hate your character?

Jesse Williams: You're not supposed to like [the Mercy West residents] right off the jump. I view it as Jackson having to take his lumps. He's stepped into the enemy's territory and he welcomes that. It's a pretty relatable crime of passion.

We've all been attracted to somebody for all types of reasons. Sometimes you go for it and sometimes you get slapped on the nose for it. I think they'll forgive me.

The Grey's Anatomy Writers on "Invest in Love"

Stacy McKee, the head writer on "Invest in Love," shared some thoughts on last week's terrific episode of Grey's Anatomy on the show's official writers' blog.

Below are excerpts from Stacy's column, with a link at the bottom to her full entry ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We’ve been planning an all PEDS episode for some time. Arizona is a regular now and we have started seeing more and more of her – but for the most part, we always see her helping Callie through crisis after crisis. We haven’t yet really given Arizona a crisis of her own.
So what better chance than in an episode where every patient is – in essence – her patient. Every patient is from the PEDS floor. PEDS, where things work a little bit differently, where the patients believe in magic. Because they are kids. Sick, dying KIDS.
To balance out all the sadness in the episode, I knew I had to incorporate a story that would make me (and you) feel good, too. Enter Alex. Saving a teeny tiny baby. In the NICU. Shirtless.
See? A happy miracle baby story! And a half naked handsome man!
Mark is KingAZ
Derek gets some encouragement from his doctor, Lexie Grey.
Mark Sloan is right when he says that surprise parties are hostile. Because they ARE! One of my favorite unscripted moments in the episode comes from Cristina when she’s eating breakfast and listening to Mark’s take on surprise parties. She TOTALLY sides with Mark.
And, if you were paying attention, you may have noticed that the surprise party moment is the ONLY moment in the entire episode where Arizona cries. Even though, as we’ve established, Arizona tends to cry in the face of authority figures.
Arizona is a people pleaser, which is why she winds up agreeing to a surgery she doesn’t believe in, she’s trying to please Richard. He’s the chief. She doesn’t want to let him down.
But even after standing up to him, after kicking him out of her OR, she still doesn’t break down and cry. After losing Wallace, Arizona still doesn’t cry. After having to face the Chief and face Jennings in the wake of losing Wallace, Arizona still doesn’t cry.
And finally – one of my favorite moments in the entire episode comes in the very last scene – from Callie. For those of you who have been watching Grey’s Anatomy for a while, you know that Callie tends to blurt things like “I love you” out – often prematurely.
If you recall, she did it with George, and he never could say it back. She’s a gal who jumps in head first, sometimes blindly, and we’ve seen it bite her in the ass.
So what I love love love is the moment when, after the horrible day that Arizona’s had, after the disastrous party, after losing one of her favorite patients – Arizona comes home, takes one look at Callie in her lingerie and that silly party hat – and Arizona says “I love you” first.
The look on Callie’s face when she hears that? Oh man, I’m starting to tear up again. It’s just so unbelievably vulnerable and sweet and lovely. Okay. Totally crying again.
First Promo For "New History"
Below is the first promo for next Thursday's all-new episode of Grey's Anatomy, "New History." Kim Raver makes her first appearance as Seattle Grace's new "cardio god."
Somehow, we don't expect Cristina to be thrilled to see Owen's fellow Iraq vet.
Also, Izzie returns from her leave of absence ... or wherever it was she went.
We imagine that subject will be addressed pretty soon by Alex. Oh, and if what Meredith asks her here is actually true, Izzie's got some big news to share with him, too ...
New Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice Crossover to Feature Kate Walsh, Eric Dane and Leven Rambin
Get ready for Addison's return ... again!
Private Practice star Kate Walsh is heading back to Grey’s Anatomy in early January to play a key role in a top-secret crossover involving Addison, Mark, and guest star Leven Rambin.
The situation as we know it is as follows:
In the Grey’s Anatomy half of the crossover, Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) summons Addison to Seattle Grace to perform surgery on Rambin's character, who was announced last week.
The storyline spills into Private Practice when, according to creator Shonda Rhimes, “complications arise and Mark ends up taking [her] back down to L.A. for more surgery.”
Addie-MarkLeven
As for Mark’s connection to this new crossover character?
That remains to be seen. As does whether sparks fly between lovers-turned-friends Addison and Mark, and what impact this new crisis has, if any, on the future of Mark and Lexie.
Answers to all those questions will likely be revealed, or at least hinted at, in future spoilers.
For now, it's up to us to debate them right here. What do you think happens, and are you excited for the crossover? Sound off on this Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice news below!
Grey's Anatomy Episode Guide: "Invest in Love"
Last night was all about children in distress. Very different kinds of distress.
Whether it was Alex giving a prematurely-born infant skin-on-skin contact to help it survive just another minute, or Cristina and Jackson going rogue in the O.R., limits where pushed.
Sadly, for Arizona, she was unable to save the life of a patient she cared for deeply. But if there was any silver lining to be found, perhaps someone finally got through to the Chief.
Jessica Capshaw in particular was brilliant last night, proving that hospitals are not just about dollars and cents, but a sense of compassion. Another terrific performance by the cast.
Private Practice Episode Guide: "Slip Slidin' Away"
Last night's episode of Private Practice featured four different story lines:
Charlotte is upset because she has no patients. Cooper tries to help in his awkward Cooper way. She rebuffs him. They make up and are generally a very cute couple.
Pete and Violet treat Barbara, a depressed woman, with electroshock therapy. She responds in a way they never saw coming - and tells them a lot about themselves.
Addison is treating a woman who suffers from stage four ovarian cancer, meets a cute oncologist who asks her out, and ultimately morphs into a crazy cat lady. Sort of.
Naomi meets a wheelchair-bound specialist who she clashes with, despite his being in a wheelchair making her uncomfortable. But she earns his respect - and vice versa.
