Kim Raver Dissects Dr. Teddy Altman

On tonight's Grey's Anatomy, a new cardiothoracic doctor comes to Seattle Grace-Mercy West, one quite unlike the previous "cardio gods" (or goddesses) who've held the position.

Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) has a past with Owen (Kevin McKidd), which will undoubtedly create future problems for Owen and Cristina (Sandra Oh), as the sneak peeks show.

In a new Q&A with TV Guide, Kim Raver dishes on the new love triangle, how long she'll be sticking around and the possibility of returning to 24 to reunite with Jack Bauer.

Q: Tell us about Dr. Teddy Altman.

Kim Raver: She's amazing at what she does. She's coming from Iraq. Her and Owen were in Iraq together. I come to Seattle Grace and there's something interesting that plays out with us.

Q: Is Teddy a mean doctor or a nice one?

Kim Raver: [Executive producer] Shonda Rhimes said she's kind of a bad ass, but she's different than the other cardio doctors that have been at Seattle Grace. She approaches things really, really differently. She's also not warm and cuddly, either.

Owen and Teddy

Q: What's her relationship like with Owen?

Kim Raver: All I can tell you is that they were in Iraq together and it will unfold as you see what their relationship is. That's the fun thing to tune in and check out. I can say there is some kind of triangle, but it's very different than what people are expecting. I think Shonda and her team have done an amazing job in the way they introduce my character. I was surprised and wondering how they would, because I know people really care for Owen and Cristina.

Q: Should fans be worried that Teddy will come between Cristina and Owen?

Kim Raver: It's complicated. I think fans will be interested in how that whole relationship is dealt with. That's why I say Shonda is so clever in the way she's bringing Teddy into both of their lives. It's a fantastic triangle and it gets complicated and interesting.

Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Izzie and the Chief

We've been debating this week whether Izzie could be pregnant on Grey's Anatomy. We have our doubts, but according to EW's Michael Ausiello, there is another Izzie surprise in store for us soon. Meanwhile, Richard's stress apparently boils over tonight.

Here's what EW's spoiler Q&A reveals this morning ...

Q: Is Izzie really pregnant on Grey’s Anatomy?

A: I'll say this: ABC's promo gurus are very sneaky! While we’re on the subject of Katherine Heigl, sources confirm that she’s taking another leave of absence from Grey’s Anatomy this season - but this time her reasons are personal and not professional.

Wig StyleR-Webb

Heigl will be going on a belated maternity leave to spend some QT with new adopted daughter Naleigh. As a result, Izzie will be MIA for another string of episodes (most likely in early 2010).

What do you think prompts Izzie's second departure from SGH?

Q: Please tell me something will happen soon on Grey’s Anatomy that will make me stop hating the Chief! I used to love him but this season has been terrible!

A: Would the sight of him falling off the wagon do the trick? 'Cause that’s what happens at the end of this week’s episode, "New History."

Three Sneak Previews: "New History"

Below are three sneak previews of tomorrow night's episode of Grey's Anatomy, "New History." What do you expect when the new cardio god(dess) comes to town?

How about a hilariously awkward introduction with Cristina? You got it.

Meanwhile, what's the fallout from the Cristina-Jackson kiss? According to Cristina, there was no kiss. There, that settles that! Leave it to Yang to clear things up.

Lastly, Izzie's back and things are getting tense already. At least she went and sought treatment elsewhere, but that's not likely to ease the tension with Alex.

Here's the first clip from the episode, with two more after the jump ...

Arizona Has Plenty to Sing About

What's next on the Calzona front? Or at least the Arizona front? Nothing big that we know of for now, but TV Guide has the latest today in its spoiler Q&A today ...

Q: Loved the Arizona-centric episode of Grey's Anatomy. What's next for her?

A: Show of hands: Who wants a musical episode of Grey's Anatomy? Well, you are probably out of luck there, but we will see Arizona sing in the coming weeks!

Better still, it's a duet, but don't expect Tony winner Sara Ramirez to be Dr. Robbins' partner in song. Instead, Arizona will trill with one of her male co-stars.

Our bet's on one of these guys.

Alternate Promo For "New History"

A certain Seattle Grace doctor has everyone guessing. Is Izzie pregnant?

She's back, in any case, as the promo below (basically a shorter version of the original promo) for this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy makes clear. The question is, what now?

Check it out below and let us know what you think ...

Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Cristina, Jackson and Calzona

The Cristina-Jackson kiss last week on Grey's Anatomy shook up one of the romances we'd grown accustomed to rooting for on the show, which was the entire point. The question is whether we like it, and whether we're even supposed to know that yet.

Is this being introduced as a minor stumbling block for Cristina and Owen, or is there more to it? Is the "chemistry" some fans are talking about a bit overblown this early on?

Here's what E! has to say about the surprising sparks flying between those two, as well as the latest goings on with the awesome known to fans (or at least us) as Calzona ...

Q: Forget Owen and Cristina on Grey's Anatomy! Give us some scoop on Cristina and Jackson!

A: Look at you with your contrarian point of view! If you are rooting for Cristina-Jackson, you'll be happy to hear that Jesse Williams his scenes are mostly with Sandra Oh and Chyler Leigh:

"It seems to be Cristina and also Lexie [that I spent most time with], just because our characters did spend that whole episode together last week."

Cristina and Jackson Kiss

Sounds like a definite case of unresolved sexual tension, as well: "Right when we started, Jackson and Cristina did the opposite of hit it off; immediately they had confrontation with each other, but I do think there is an underlying mutual respect and wariness there that will carry on."

Q: I loved last week's episode of Grey's Anatomy, especially the scenes between Arizona and Callie! They are becoming my favorite couple on the show. What's the scoop on them coming up?

A: According to the lovely Ms. Jessica Capshaw, "I don't have a view of what's around the corner, but it feels like they're in a nice place. I would be lying if I didn't say this is a one-hour drama - of course there's gonna be drama, there has to be - but so far I don't know where the drama or the conflict will be coming from."

"Right now, I think they're just in a very sort of loving relationship and all the good things that come with a new relationship and trying to figure it out."

Thoughts? Opinions? Sound off in the comments!

Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Is Izzie Pregnant?

Izzie Stevens returns to Grey’s Anatomy this week ... but is she alone?

No, we're not talking about her high school mentor. We mean is she pregnant?

The new promo for this week's "New History" certainly implies that she is ... or does it? Is it just another deceiving promo, a classic Shonda Rhimes mind game at work?

It will be interesting to see who Meredith is directing her "You’re pregnant?" at ... and whether it's even true. Remember Rose's "I'm pregnant, Derek ... kidding!" Exactly.

Karev and Stevens Picture

If Izzie were in fact pregnant, the timing could be fortuitous for the put-upon Dr. Stevens.

As series creator Shonda Rhimes told TV Guide, “Izzie has had everything taken from her - she’s had cancer, she’s lost a friend [George], and she had what she saw as a betrayal of a relationship [with Alex] when she got fired - so she’s sort of standing on this very delicate place where she feels like she has nothing left to live for."

"She’s searching for some reason to hang on.”

What do you think? Is she knocked up, or is this just misdirection?

Two New Patients Checking Into Seattle Grace

The gay presence on ABC's Grey's Anatomy is about to double, if only for an episode.

According to TV Guide, girlfriends Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), a.k.a. Calzona, will share screen time with boyfriends Jeff and Aaron in an early 2010 episode.

The male couple, in their 30s, checks into Seattle Grace when Aaron, an overweight opera singer, becomes ill. Aaron will be supported by his husband Jeff, who works as a teacher.

Grey's Anatomy is looking for an actor to play Aaron who can sing a cappella.

Happy Birthday, Ellen Pompeo!

Ellen Pompeo, who literally puts the Grey in Grey's Anatomy and who just became a mom for the first time, turns 40 today. The actress has been a fan favorite since Meredith Grey quotes and her romance with McDreamy first started in Season One, and nothing has changed since.

Today is also her wedding anniversary with Chris Ivery (2007) and the day she got engaged to him as well (2006). That will make it easier for him to remember, at least ...

Promotional Photos From "New History"

This week's episode of Grey's Anatomy marks the debut of Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), as the new cardiothoracic surgeon at Seattle Grace-Mercy West. But it's her past relationship with Owen, a fellow Iraq war vet, that has Cristina questioning her from the start.

Meanwhile, Izzie returns to Seattle Grace with her high school mentor (Joel Grey) seeking treatment for his dementia, and the stress of Richard's responsibilities take their toll.
