Negative Feedback
-
Sorry to be negative here, but I had to change the channel a couple times while watching Grey's last week. I am close to not watching the show anymore, and I look forward to it every Thursday night! I don't like the storylines that get too steamy for Primetime television, especially lately with Erica and Callie, and Callie and Sloan, the topics they were discussing, no. I can't watch that. I'm not telling anybody what to do, or not do, I'm just saying it's way too much for Primetime. My son is a 7th grader who's bedtime is 9:30, I either have to shut it off, or make him leave the room. If these, too steamy for Primetime, storylines continue..................I will shut off the television, or change the channel. Perhaps nobody really cares, but I do.

Well that was a brilliant response.

greysanatomyismy... :That response was completely immature and unnecessary.
Openminded:It saddens me that you let this one story line get in your way of watching a great show. And I wonder why it has been okay to potentially expose your son to some of the very graphic scenes and topics, both sexual and medical, up until now- and why a same sex relationship is going too far?

I agree with Open Minded 100%. It is a little much for prime time. Its funny to think back at how crazy people went years ago when on the Rosanne show she got kissed by a lesbian. And with that scene Rosanne hated it, was not comfortable at all - it was really funny her reaction. Any how, people got so pissed back then about a lesbian kiss being on tv. My how the times have changed! ha ha.
In any case, I dont care one way or the other if someone is gay or straight. What I don't like is having to see it, or hear about the sex. I find it disugusting (having to watch the same sex kissing/sex scenes, not gay people themselves) and I hate having it shoved in my face every week. At the beginning of the Grey's Anatomy series had homosexuality been such a major part of the storylines I would not have continued watching. The same as I never watched the L Word or Queer as Folk, (there was another one in there too but I can't remember).
Even at the end of last seasong they had those Army guys kissing. BLAH.

Seriously, modiner? Seriously? Do you know how hypocritical that is?
So, you're okay with watching straight people kiss/have sex on screen? Because that's exactly what you're implying in your post. You say you don't care about sexual orientation, but your post points towards clear homophobia. If straight people get their airtime, us gay kids should certainly get some airtime as well. One in ten people are in the LGBT community. We don't bite, we're not contagious, and it's biological. If you don't like it, don't watch. But don't smash it into the dirt, either, because that's life. Gay people are everywhere. Describing it the way you have ('digusting' and 'BLAH') is demeaning and hurtful.
I think it's downright awesome that same-sex couples are finally becoming more normal on primetime television. Do I condone the constant sex scenes? No. But I'm not singling out one orientation or the other - I think the sex from both the homosexual AND heterosexual couples should be toned down some.
Happy watching,Amanda

Dont insult my intelligence! I know that being gay/lesbian is not contagious. I know there are plenty of same sex couples out there. I don't care. Fantastic! I am absolutely not a homophobic person. I genuinely could care less about someones sexual orientation. And you say if you don't like it don't watch...I DON'T. I clearly stated that I didn't watch ANY show where being gay/lesbian was the primary focus of the show and if Grey's would have started out that way I wouldn't have watched it either. Now, just because I don't like the shows and don't watch them doesn't mean I'd be out there picketing to have them all removed from america's veiwing eyes. Not at all.
Ok. THis is probably a bad example but...let's use Ellen as an example. I know..all straight people probably love her. I absolute love her and her show! She shared intimate wedding pictures on the show...thats fine, they were beautiful. Very happy for her. Thats fantastic. Now if her show became a constant here's me and my wife kissing and screwing theme, I'd probably be done watching Ellen. Much like I'd be done if Oprah did the same thing with her and Stedman. (REally bad example there! :)
I don't hate gay/lesbian people. That would never keep me from being friends with someone. It hasn't so far in my life. Do I want to sit and watch them make out? NO. Do I want to sit and watch my straight friends make out? NO. And when it comes to what I will watch with my kids around...I will change the channel just as quick with Hetrosexual love scenes.
And I think America has come A VERY long way into accepting Gay/Lesbian relationships....hence my reference to the Rosanne episode that people threw a fit about years ago.
To be clear, I could do without the graphic sex scenes across the board. And this may be a really bad analogy and let me say I AM NOT SAYING THAT I FIND HOMOSEXUALITY AS DISGUSTING AS THE SEX ACT I'M GOING TO USE IN THIS EXAMPLE. I'm just trying to find an example of something you would not like. Please Understand that before you keep reading. But lets say you have a favorite show, you love it and then five years later they throw in a storyline that has a guy on there the enjoys sex with animals. And week after week they don't just talk about it...they show him doing it. You would probably be like, you know what I like the show and all...but I could do with out that!! That is all I'm saying.

Something else....in light of this posted today...
some of the gay-themed story lines are being downplayed - and even erased from upcoming Grey's Anatomy scripts.
I am not in the minority with my opinion of enough with the gay stuff already.

Then maybe you should've clarified in your post. Everything in your original post pointed straight at a clear distaste towards the LGBT community, which I obviously did not take kindly too. I'm sorry if you felt diminished, but not everything is communicated clearly through writing. As I said, everything in your post pointed towards a very negative attitude towards the community in general.
I, too, feel the same way about the way they have suddenly decided to over-sex Grey's. That I can agree with on both the homosexual and heterosexual accounts.
It's not just Grey's they're erasing the gay stuff from. They've fired a woman who played a transgendered character on Ugly Betty as well. It's highly unfortunate, and pairing that with the recent bans on marriage in California, Arizona, and Florida (plus the ban on gay adoption in Arkansas)...this country has come so very far, but it seems we still have a long way to go. I could understand (and would actually like) if they toned it down a little on BOTH the homosexual and heterosexual end, but eliminating it completely was ridiculous and is going to cause a lot more problems then ABC anticipates. I'm still in shock, mainly because I was JUST starting to be okay with Hahn's presence on the show (I, um, kind of...hated her, for lack of a better word). And the way ABC is cutting her from the show is just awful. They're going to recieve a lot of negative feedback for this, in my opinion. They did not handle this well. I won't even begin to get started on the whole issue with Melissa George's character being de-bisexualized (ah, my English major brain is screaming at myself for making up a word...). Sigh.
Happy watching,
Amanda
