I'm am going crazy waiting for the next episodes and was wondering what you all thought about if merder get married if she will change you last name? Will she become a shepard? Hyphen her name? Or just stick with Grey?

I'm in two minds about this- on one hand, Meredith is not really the type to change her name when she gets married. I mean she isn't a 'ring bride' and she isn't a 'wedding bride' and she is a bit of a feminist and proud of her independence. My immediate thought would be it isn't really her character to change her name.

But- she doesn't have any real familial connection to her last name. Grey is Thatcher's name. Grey is Ellis's name. They weren't her family, but Derek is her family.

And then I think, it is 'Grey's Anatomy'- the protagonist of Grey's can't be Meredith Shepherd, right?

True... it is GREY'S Anatomy... But you're right. She has no connection to the other Greys (besides Lexie) and she loves Derek...

Meredith does seem to be a feminist--I love that about her. It does seem possible that she might change her name, though--in the season premiere, she told Cristina that if she married Derek, she would be "Dr. Mrs. Shepherd and have five chatty children and a chatty husband."

I agree with seriously? seriously. she did say Shepherd in the season premiere...but i could also see her hyphenating it because it would get confusing after a while with 2 shepherds and not to bring the ex into this conversation but Addie was Montgomery-Shepherd i think to specifically distinguish between the two...I don't kno, I like both personally

There are two Greys already so switching to Shepherd would be the same. At least the two Shepherds would be different genders and WAY different ages. Lexie is only one year behind Meredith. I could totally see Meredith hyphenating it though...

LOL I really want one of the interns or Alex to refer to her as the "SheShepard" like they use to do to Addison...I loved that! The sad thing is if she doesn't at least hyphen her name there won't be any like connection between them showing the world they belong to each other ya know? She already isn't wearing a ring...and because she isn't does that mean derek wont? I think she should hyphen it so she is still Grey but at the same time lets everyone know that derek is her man!
