This is what I think: what if they got babies - who the hell is going to stay home with them? Obviously both of them is too obsessed with their work and careers. Mer has a bright future as a surgeon and Derek is a famous brainsurgeon. Do you guys REALLY think one of them is going to give that up? And do you really imagine Mer as a typical housewife? I think not.

As for all this talk about babies... Der obviously wants them someday. He's always alluded to that. I think the reference in the promo was merely Der having had a conversation with Mer about "some day", which sounds like it may have been an intentional conversation to test her comfort level b/c of his wanting to ask her to marry him. He knows Mer. He knows she'll freak out. He's talking about big forever things with her to try to get a sense of how much she'd freak out, if at all. Then he's excited b/c they had a conversation about babies "some day" and she must have seemed warm to the idea-- she didn't seem scared of it at all. I don't think Ellen Pompeo is pregnant. Did you see the most recent pic posted here of her with her husband, Chris Ivery? She's still quite thin. McNorway-- I think Mer will make an excellent Mother some day. She is SO compassionate. SO patient. Do I think she's ready now? NO. Do I want her to be ready now? NO. I want to savor every minute of the proposal, engagement, marriage and all the ups and downs for what it is-- not throw a baby in the mix yet. And, as for them both having such great careers that they wouldn't give up? In many families both parents continue their careers. One may take a break for a while. Sometimes they take turns taking breaks. Sometimes each of them sacrifice some time in their schedules. Don't get me wrong, I strongly feel that there is A LOT of value in staying home with your kids (that is what I do), but not all families are built the same way, not all parents are built the same way. Doesn't make them any less of a family. And doesn't mean they are bad parents at all. Given Mer's experiences with her robot-career driven Mom, I think she'd try everything in her power to not be that kind of Mom, to be there for her kids as much as possible and mostly to be emotionally there for them, while maintaining a career, or not.

I read a article and in it Patrick's talking about the proposing and there's mention about kids.
"The question is how to pop the question. I don't know the answer to that, bu I assume that by the end of the season, I'm going to pu a ring on it. Then bang, season 6, marry her and start having kids already."
So we'll see if there'll be a wedding or kids for MerDer this season, but I think there will be none.

Meredith had a terrible childhood and I think she'd stay with babies at home but not now and if they want to have kids there'll be some problems to get pregnant. And because I read that there will be 6 seasons Meredith could be pregnant in the end of season 6 - so we won't her at home with kids which could be boring. I could be just suggesting that she'll stay with kids.
And the thing about Ellen Pompeo - she's thin but I think she's not as thin as she used to be when the show has started. And she looks beatiful and healthy now :)

i cant wait til they have kids and when ellen and chris have kids!
merder babies will be soo cute! and i think meredith would be the best mom ever! and derek would be the sweetest dad and can u imagine how sweet he will be when meredith is pregnant? aww :) i cant wait! season 6 is the season!!!
