derek expects a lot from meredith. remember after the "prom sex" he didn't say anything to her - HE asked HER "What does this mean?" shouldn't he have been telling her that he wants her back, etc..... he was after all the married person. i get very conflicted images of derek. he wants to be there for mer, but he always finds himself on the outside looking in; he isn't able to push through to the barriers that she puts up in defense of protecting what's left of her heart. and i agree with you ces when you say, why couldn't derek be like alex and just BE with meredith without expecting to be let in on her pain just yet. i'm beginning to think the two of them just don't mesh well together.

I think Meredith opened up to Derek a lot in Season 1 but then Season 2 came and he chose Addison and she was deeply hurt. Then Season 3 came and all this shit kept happening to her...I think a lot of people would put up their defences just to cope and by so I think Meredith is not all to blame, but if she doesn't step it up next episide and start doing something about it ....I'll be very about their future. Well I'm off to work. Talk to you guys all later

I'm assuming George told Derek about what Thatcher did...I would have expected Derek to have given a little bit of the benefit of the doubt given what Meredith has gone through in the last couple months. God I hope she steps up to the plate next week. I don't know if I can wait until next Thursday....maybe I'll start running just to work off the frustrations.

wow.. it took me a while last night to wrap my mind around it all. all of these bad things keep happening to mer. it would be hard for anyone to take. but what doesnt really come out in the open is the pain she feels about der not stepping like her friends did. yea, she didnt talk to him first, but she didnt talk to annyone really. im just pissed that he just sat back and watched her be sad. george cant leave, i'll die. it took alot for izzie to go and try to lie to him saying she didnt have feelings for him to get him to stay.it looked like he sorta believed her, and he felt hurt b/c he is in love w/ her. im sure there will be a confrontation b/t callie and izzie next week. callie knows she'll never be able to compete w/ iz, she may be his wife, but izzie is his best friend. burke and cristina, they have some stuff to work out, but im really hoping they do get married. but w/ the title of the epi next week, it doesnt look good at all.

Great episode! Pregnancy is definately in the air this time of year. My own sister just discovered that she was pregnant! Baby baby baby...Callie better not get pregnant in order to fix her marriage! George and Izzie still make me sick. Izzie is so selfish...everything has to be about her. I believe that Christina is going to get a low score on the exam and Karev is going to get a high score. I wonder what is going to happen with the Webber and his wife. The raise for Chief and Head Resident is on. Meredith and McDreamy are in some trouble and I love how the bachelor party consisted of McDreamy, McSteamy, Burke, and Addison. Loved it! We shall see...I can't wait for the final show and to get Season 3 on DVD!!!!

AAAAAGGGHHHH Is anyone here losing their rag with Derek? I mean really, he doesn't want to keep breathing for Mer but he wants her to let him in! She's keeping her distance because she wants to deal with things on her own, he's letting her get on with it. The girl needs some support - even if she pretends she can do it all on her own. Derek needs to grow a pair and stop looking at other girls in the pub. He seems more dark and twisty than Meredith. Will someone please lock them in a room and make them talk and not in the lift sorry, elevator. There's not enough time between floors for what they need to talk about. What was 'I brought a black suit.' I thought he was going to say he loved her! (I wanted him to say he loved her so I could have rewound it and pretended it was me he was saying it to.) Absolutely loved the show and even though I want to shake the pair of them (MerDer)and scream WAKE UP, I loved all the other things going on. Especially as Bailey sees Callie as decent competition in the race for Chief Resident. I felt that Bailey was a tad arrogant about the race for Chief Resident and the assumption would be that she'd get it. Even if we all know she will get the job, it's nice to see that her character has something to think about. I haven't read all the posts but isn't anyone else feeling the same way about Derek? Kate

This is from the official ABC.com Writers blog. There is some great commentary on Derek and Meredith. "Meredith’s first test arrives before this episode even begins in that she has to decide whether or not to attend Susan’s funeral. After the way Susan died, and Thatcher’s physically violent reaction to the news, Meredith would understandably harbor some ambivalence about going. Especially on the day of the intern exam. But in a surprising show of strength and resolve, Meredith doesn’t whine or deliberate over her decision. She simply puts on her black dress and sets off for the funeral. Even when Cristina gives her the out of asking the Chief to let her take the exam another day, Meredith refuses. She doesn't need to reschedule the test. She's ready. What Meredith isn’t ready for, however, is her father’s showing up drunk and angry at the hospital and publicly humiliating her all over again. At which point Meredith simply shuts down. She sinks under the weight of her own life -- and her own perceived failures -- just as she did when she drowned. Faced with her mother’s dismissing her life as merely “ordinary” -- and her father’s brutal rejection -- Meredith seems to will herself out of existence, failing to complete the intern exam and to communicate with Derek. That is, until her friends intervene. Confronted with the prospect of losing one of their own -- a test in and of itself -- the interns set aside their own conflicts and concerns and fight together for Meredith. In the end, Meredith’s biggest test isn’t whether or not she fails or succeeds as an intern. It’s whether she can allow herself to be helped -- to be taken care of -- to be loved -- by others. When her biological family casts her aside, Meredith’s Seattle Grace family is there to support her unconditionally -- and, though it’s obviously painful and difficult, especially where Richard is concerned (“You’re not my father.”), Meredith ultimately lets them. For Derek, who’s consigned to having to watch Meredith go through all this from the sidelines, it sometimes seems as if his entire relationship with Meredith has been a test. And what's the right answer at this point? To take her at her word that she's fine? That she needs to go to Susan’s funeral by herself? Or should he worry and hover -- making sure she’s still breathing -- as he’s been doing since she drowned? In the end, Derek listens to Meredith -- he gives her the space she’s asked for -- but as a result, the distance between them grows wider than ever. Derek ends up walking away from Meredith as she re-takes the intern exam -- leaving her in the care of her waiting friends -- but does that mean he’s failed her? After all, he doesn’t succumb to the temptation of accepting the drink from the girl in the bar. He remains true to Meredith, even if he remains excluded from her experience. Again. But for how long?" Derek is so tired of being on the outside looking in with Meredith. This year he has proven to her that he is trustworthy and will be there for her. They fight, he shows up. She drowns, he notices that she is gone and saves her. Not only that, but he realizes that there is something wrong, before the drowning. He is in touch with how she is feeling, she just will not let him know herself. She pushes him away and hinds behind the Tequila, the friends and saying she is fine. She needs to turn to him. That is how real relationships work, you lean on each other in the hard times. It brings you closer together! Pschyrembel, I am a boring church boy, I am a youth pastor at a church and my hair is not as good as Derek's (who's is?). But that is ok, I like my more quite life.

Well it is nice to meet you, I am Matt. I love watching how the writers try to put these peoples lives back together. It is so hard when you don't believe in any thing other than yourself. I really just think that this is a great show.
