Izzie

Hi Greysaddiction! We aren't likely to change each other's minds about Izzie, so I won't go on about that, but I just want to clarify my pov a little. I am in 100% agreement that if ever a person deserved a pass on their behavior and was deserving of a little selfish time, it is Izzie at this moment in her life. She is a cancer survivor, just lost her best friend, just got fired, is dealing with a rushed marriage, etc. I get that completely.
However, after having witnessed Izzie's actions starting with the Denny and the LVAD, her treatment of Callie before and after she was with George, her judgemental attitude toward her friends over the years, Denny 2.0 and her pattern of being to the support that Alex has given her over the years, I just don't have much sympathy and understanding left to give her.
Yes, other characters have acted selfishly and cruelly and still do. The difference is that they usually understand that their actions have caused pain, even if they never acknowledge it to anyone but themselves. I just don't remember many times where Izzie has understood that her actions have caused other people pain, and then been SINCERELY remorseful about it. In my opinion, she has almost always been written as a victim, who is just too caring and a dreamer who just wants to be loved. Her actions always seemed to be justified by the writers and/or the other characters. So unfortunately, at this time, my well of "poor Izzie" has just about run dry, even though I think now is the time that she actually deserves it. I think that of all the characters, Izzie has been written the most poorly and inconsistently so my anger/disappointment is as much from the writing as it is the character, if that makes sense.
On top of all of this, Alex is my favorite character. Yes, he is VERY flawed and can be a complete ass. But over the past 2-3 seasons, he has really grown and has stepped up to be a good man who has supported and loved Izzie every step of the way, even though he does sometimes fall back into anger and jerkdom. After last year's Denny storyline and watching Alex support, defend and fight for Izzie through her season long difficult time, even when it was difficult for him, to have her then essentially abandon him with a note after he told her that he wasn't sure he would survive losing her, because things have gotten too difficult for her is just too much for me, no matter how justified her behavior. I like Alex and Izzie together because Izzie makes Alex happy and because Alex seems to temper what are, IMO, Izzie's worst traits. But Alex hasn't been happy lately and I fear that Izzie's actions are going to be justfied again and will somehow be made to be Alex's fault (because that is what usually happens). In which case, my hopes for this relationship ever being what I had hoped it could be and what it has the potential to be will be gone. Which really sucks because with George gone and Addison gone and the newbies and Lexie getting front and center, Alex and A/I are really the only thing I'm watching for.

*sigh* I just read the description for episode 6.8 and apparently Izzie has left Alex with all of her medical bills. I don't love Izzie, but I don't want to despise her...what are they doing to her??!!

That's weird! Are they trying to change her into a bitch?
I don't like that!

I've never seen Izzie as selfish. IMO she's the least selfish out of all of them. When the other characters are going through things, they tend to ignore everyone elses problems. Even when that person is going to them for help. But Izzie is always there for everyone, even when her life is crap. She always tries to be understanding and help her friends. I know she can be a little crazy sometimes, but I can't help but love her no matter what. And about Alex, everyone seems to be acting like he's the greatest person ever. I love him, and A/I are my favorite couple ever, but he's done a lot of really mean things to her. I know he was there for her through all of last season and I love how much he's grown, but you can't completely discredit Izzie when we don't even know what's really happening. Throughout the entire series, they both have been there for eachother. And that's what counts. Something bad would happen to Izzie, and he would help her. Then something bad would happen to Alex, and she would help him. I honestly think they are meant for eachother, and will be together in the end. We don't know where Izzie went, we don't know what she's doing, we don't know what's gonna happen. We really don't know anything. The writers could have some crazy brilliant story for us. All we can do is wait and see. As much as I'm gonna hate not having her in some episodes, the time away will probably do her good. She's gone through a lottttt. But this is all just my opinion. You guys can think whatever you want.
:)
And realistically, how long can she stay away? She has cancer, she's still getting medicine, and her doctors are at Seattle Grace. She can't stay away that long. Unless she isn't doing chemo anymore...? Idk.
And why would the cheif fire her when she gave like 8 million dollars to make a free clinic? She gave all of her money to the hospital, and they fire her. Not very nice.

I totally agree with abcdefg. I would want my money back haha.

I think what theyre doing to Izzy is sad...ok i get that she was upset but come on, just leaving town and not saying a word to Alex or anyone else? Mer is stuck in a hospital bed for crying out loud. She shouldve at least talked to Alex or Mer before just leaving. That being said, I really love Alex and Izzy together. I think theyve been through a lot and they have good chemistry. I dont want to see them break up or one of them leave the show. I was confused at first about the whole Alex going to the Chief thing but when i re-watched the episode i caught where he was actually trying to help her, not get her fired. I hope that the two of them can work through this and get back on track soon...

Hi TDS! **waves**
I wrote a post to you yesterday and the computer ate it... sorry :(
I'm not an A/I fan, so I don't agree with all of your post... but I absolutely 100% agree w/ this part of abcdefg's post:
"I've never seen Izzie as selfish. IMO she's the least selfish out of all of them. When the other characters are going through things, they tend to ignore everyone elses problems. Even when that person is going to them for help. But Izzie is always there for everyone, even when her life is crap. She always tries to be understanding and help her friends. Thank you!!!
Perfectly said!!
And I am SO glad to hear an Alex/A/I fan admit that Alex has been crappy to Izzie plenty enough too! I'm a G/I fan, but I'm also an Alex fan. And I love Alex for all of him--- even the crappy parts, but I find that sometimes a lot of A/I fans tend to act as though Alex has been perfect to Izzie, but Izzie not perfect to him. And that's just not true. Honestly, I wouldn't want Alex to be perfect... it wouldn't be Alex.
Thank you!!!!

Although I am a complete Alex apologist, I absolutely agree that he has been horrible to Izzie in the past and I can completely understand why people wouldn't like them together as a couple. (I just really only like Izzie when she is single or with Alex). Believe it or not, I actually like their passion and the fact that they can be so tender with each other one minute and so cruel the next and that they can really get under one another's skin. I wouldn't be able to tolerate this in real life, but I find that it makes for good entertainment LOL!
I guess for me the difference is that even when Alex is acting like a jerk, I can understand WHY he is doing it even if I don't like it. With Izzie, sometimes I just don't understand her reasoning and therefore it makes it hard for me to empathize with her. I don't know if that is the writing, the acting or just me.
Also when Alex is a jerk to Izzie, we the audience can usually tell that his feelings for her are still there and he is being immature or just defensive because he cares. When Izzie is mean to Alex it just seems to be because she doesn't give his feelings any thought at all. Now, I guess you could argue that its worse to hurt someone knowing that you are doing it like Alex does, then to hurt someone because you are completely oblivious to what you are doing, but it usually just comes off as self-centered to me.
Anyway, my enthusiasm for this couple really, really dwindled during everything with Denny last year, and while I do think that Izzie loves Alex, I am always going to be sensitive to the relationship being one-sided. Shonda can justify Denny 2.0 all she wants and she can say that A/I are meant to be, but the ends don't justify the means for me. I wasn't happy with their story AT ALL last season and have been accused of whining about my couple because now they are married, but who cares how a couple's storyline ends up if you can't stomach what it takes to get there. And it looks like they are doing it to them again this season so I may be rooting for Alex to hook up with one of the Mercy West people soon enough (maybe the hot guy since he doesn't seem to have much luck with the women in his life LOL!)

hello everyone! hi greysaddiction! :) Yup, it was sad how IZ would define herself, basically just as a doctor, her work. Though I think I've mentioned that she has the tendency to be self-centered, it's also not difficult to understand where she's coming from. I guess the writers used it also as a strategy to divert and give twists to the storyline. hehe, because if Izzie would be too nice, positive and thankful to the support and love of her friends and alex, there'd be less room for twists or drama... besides, there's really an excuse for her absence.. so this storyline is somehow needed. I just hope that the writers won't be too cruel or mean to AI followers. I expect a great redemption to make up for this emotional turmoil.
What's with these newly-married women doctors?!?! haha In house, it was said that Cameron would also be written off or I hope just temporarily absent. Geez.. their weddings AI & Chameron gave me a high.. and now... ahckk.. made me think that it's better not to watch in the meantime... might ruin my ideas of a happier ending. haha.
Btw, I kinda dislike that mercy west girl who's trying to flirt with alex in the guise of being "nice." She's interested in him... he's quite in a vulnerable state, but haha I salute alex for snobbing or trying to shut her up. Sorry, she's not alex's friend in the first place. She almost quarelled Izzie before. Sorry but she's quite annoying... but yeah, effective acting. Unless she offers alex real help (like helping him how to deal with the bills) and try to help look for Izzie, then that's when I'd like her. I doubt the intent and motives. thanks, but no thanks.
