    He could retire as chief of surgery but stay on @SGH and pursue surgical research interests, for example, and keep all the fans happy and the writers busy with new story lines.

    ok so this whole chief thing has me wondering. richard doesn't want derek to become chief because it will take away from his relationship with meredith. but the chief's same thinking needs to apply to burke and cristina as well...they're just about to get married and according to the richard, being chief will take away from any relationship. but what makes me wonder the most is richard told bailey she would eventually be chief...but she just had a kid and has a husband! wouldn't u think her family would suffer more than derek or burke's relationship because at least meredith and cristina work AT the hospital. bailey's husband doesn't which leads me to think about how that could end up like richard and adele's situation...plus she has her child to take care of too. so i think the chief should stay chief hahaa. i don't kno...that was just bugging me and i wanted to put that out there.

    I personally don't think the chief is backing down from his position. If he retires won't they have to get rid of his character?

    I don't think hes going to quit either, I don't know it just seems like it is taking so long to pick someone to be chief and Richard hasn't even given the board his imput yet about who should be chief, and I'm just really hoping he doesn't leave! lol

    LOL omg that would be waaay to dramatic and crazy!! :P but I'm thinking they could have Callie kick Izzies butt or something or have them like screaming at each other at the bang wedding and then Cristina and Burke get mad cause this is their moment and Callie and Izzie are ruining it! lol see the writers should just come on this website cause everyone has so many good ideas! lol :P
