  1. Forever Young

Kathy-- I am totally with you. I am anxious about tonight. I think the preview clips have not been very telling like last week's episode's clips... and it's like everyone's whispering behind closed doors... I am still glass-half-full-girl, but I think we are going to see some painful steps backwards before MerDer go forwards... the biggest problem with that is that we are going to be caught in the middle with the strike. Who knows how long until the new epi's start and MerDer can take their steps forward? But I believe they ABSOLUTELY WILL. If we waited out the season 3 black cloud ender, we can wait this one out-- I know it! AustriaFan-- that is classic Derek response. His nature is flight! This is his impulse frustration response-- maybe he thinks Mer's not going forward at all and is stringing him along. He'll eventually come to figure out that she isn't, but the question is when... He wants to take a giant step (one long awaited, of course!) and Mer's stride is not quite that wide! Oh, Der... see what I mean? He's still got some growing to do too... I just hope the next few epi's can give the fans some peace before we have to settle in for the long wait... greysfan08-- you think this season everyone's been jumping in bed all the time? I can never get my husband to watch this show and last night he sat down to watch the last 15 mins of the epi I was watching on DVD-- and wouldn't you know it was epi 10 of Season 2 and that show everyone was sleeping around!! Unfortunate, b/c it only convinced him that he was right about what the show was all about!! Anyway, I disagree about Season 4-- I think it's been great so far! As for Ava & Alex-- I do like them together, but they'd have to bring Ava back more permanently... otherwise I just can't get into it! Looking forward to tonight and an indulgent glass of wine (or 2 or 3)...

Ah, but Mer DOES care-- just doesn't WANT to!

I know exactly what you mean Kathy! It is just a TV show-- perspective is difficult sometimes! I think you are right-- Mer & Der are going to be OK, but I wouldn't expect that at the end of tonight's episode. There's 2 or 3 more epi's after this, so even if it doesn't look great tonight, do not give up hope! You know, I love all the characters on this show (well most) and I love the different story lines, but MerDer are the heart of the show. Shonda knows that. She created that. The heart may suffer a few tears here and there, but she will not stop it cold. I have faith. McDreamy wouldn't be quite so dreamy w/o Mer-- she's the reason he gives us all those delicious dreamy moments!

Yes, hafsa-- go Bailey go! No one is going to pull any of that crap w/ Bailey in charge! I know a lot of people have taken a quick liking to Dr. Hahn... I am still on the fence. She is really rough around the edges... jagged. Straightforward I like, but so far she's seemed a little too straight forward to me! but with a slight softening I think I really could like her. Give Christina her surgeries back, anyway!! As for MerDer, I still believe...

Here's what I project for the Der's new love interest storyline-- Der is lonely. For God's sake, he's so lonely that he was borderline "dating" the chief, as Sloan hilariously pointed out. He's now looking for companionship. He loves Mer, and I think he's very serious about Mer, but I also think he's lonely. So, he'll toy with the idea of seeing someone else. Maybe partially to test himself-- to see if there is life beyond Mer (in case she never meets him halfway) and maybe partially to attempt to motivate Mer. At any rate, my prediction is that he'll go on a date and entertain the idea of dating someone else, only to realize that it's not even possible for him. At the same time Mer is going to be working through some of her issues and beginning to develop a closeness with Lexie and getting closer to being ready... it may look rough for a while, but I believe it's all growing pains with both of them (let's not forget that Der has a ways to go too-- this is the guy who's response to finding out that his wife is sleeping with his bff was to hop on a plane across the country, take a new job and go to a bar and hook up-- his nature is more towards the flight response-- now, he has come a long way and now exhibits more of a tendency to fight for things, for Mer, but I think he's still got some growing to do)... and eventually they will meet each other, head-to-head, on the same plane and completely ready for each other. Won't that just be 10 times more satisfying to watch then seeing Mer hook up with him after her shift and immediately jumping out of bed to go home alone?? Call me a glass-half-full-girl if you want, but that is what I believe...

Well, their support of the writers is admirable, but this could really bring misery to the viewers! I hope it at least helps to push for a faster resolution.

On the contrary, pink mist, I think the epi's do have a continuity, but in a similar fashion to season 1. Each epi had it's own story, it's own being, but it did further the continuous path of the characters. This is an intentional way of getting away from the steady stream of soap opera-esque drama and getting back to the magic of Grey's, I think. I do agree, though, that in the last epi something felt a bit out of sync. We were left with restlessness that reminded me of Season 3, but there were so many exceptional moments to balance that and really I think that the out-of-sync aspect of it was completely incongruent with the previous Season 4 epi's. Keep on watching... Hafsa, I think you are dead-on about Lexie. What a horrible and lonely place that must be, which is exactly what will make Mer soften towards her-- Mer is a very warm and caring person (in her own dark & twisty way)-- she'll really want to help her. Also, I wonder then, about Lex and Alex b/c this would be something that could emotionally link them (so far it's just been a physical relationship, but maybe it's going to become more and then where does Ava fit in...)?

Rose and Ausfan-- you are so on the same page as I am! A couple weeks ago I started watching season 1 on DVD and then I just started watching season 2 again--- the pick me, choose me part was epi 5. After watching I realized that we keep focusing on the fact that Mer isn't committing b/c she has all these "issues"... I think the reason she can't commit to him is that moment during her speech, when Der chose his marriage over her. B/c if you look at his face while she's talking, it is so full of love... and torment. He knew he was choosing his marriage right then. He tried telling her earlier in the epi that Addi was his family and that choosing to let go of his family would be a difficult decision for him that would take a lot of time and soul searching. When he didn't show at the bar after Mer's choose me, pick me speech, to Mer he was choose Addy. To Der, he was choosing his marriage. I think that Mer could get past the Thatcher issues to commit to Der, but she can't make it past the Der choosing Addy issues... and b/c of that the Thatcher issues just complicate everything, and mask it to some degree. i think Lex will be the key to Mer letting go of the Thatcher issues, and then Mer will be free to realize that she's not trusting Der b/c HE broke her trust and at that point the healing process will be full tilt and I think she'll get past it...

I didn't notice the poor editing... but I do agree that it wasn't the smoothest epi of Grey's, but it certainly had some exceptional moments. Those moments are why we are so addicted! I really hope the writer's get the compensation they deserve and that they can get back to doing what they love most and what we look forward to week after week...
