New BURKTINA, PRESTINA, BANG!
I hear you, purplemerder, and I know you are giving me constructive advice as a friend. Let me ask you this question though. If you went to the GA website and there were post after post of people calling Patrick Dempsey a bigot, saying his soul was ugly, saying he should be fired, saying he is ugly, saying he wouldn't be missed, saying any number of other actors could replace him, calling him a racial slur over and over again, saying all of the most vile things you can think of including that his character should be killed off. And in the process of writing their reasons for all of the hatefulness they made completely inaccurate statements, assumptions with no grounds, and gross generalizations about his intentions, what is in his heart, or the sincerity of his efforts to make amends, would you be so content to just sit back and calmly let it pass. Or, retreat to friendlier territory and only talk about your feelings with others who agree with you? Then take that experience and spread it out over months. If this were Patrick Dempsey they were talking about how would you respond? I know you can't answer that because you can't even conceive of so many fans of the show hating the one person you love the most. I can't just read the posts and not respond. I am just not made like that. If there is something really unjust, I can't sit back and not say anything. It doesn't matter if I am popular. I am not here to be popular. Hopefully people who support Burke and Cristina and Isaiah and Sandra will appreciate my comments and share my opinions. I am here to talk about GA, the characters, the actors, and to have an exchange of thoughts and ideas. Mine may not be the popular stance to take, but that's okay. I don't, however, want to ruin the discussion for anyone else either and I hope I don't. When people are talking about the characters and events taking place in their lives or even talking about the actors and actresses and other things going on in their lives, I love the conversation. That is why I come here. However, to me discussion isn't character assassination. I don't mind ruining those conversations at all. I am not a coward and I will not just keep my opinions in safe places. It may not seem like it to you, but I do not respond to every negative comment. Many times I read something hateful and someone else has responded in support of Isaiah and I don't feel the need to add anything. Sometimes I let something ridiculous pass because it is obviously ridiculous. Sometimes I even respond to the positive comments, and there are those as well. I am not a cult leader, although I am not so sure that would be the worst thing to be, in fact there are fans much more knowledgable and supportive of Isaiah than I am on bangsanatomy. I promise not to be passing out any cherry koolaid in the near future. I will admit that it has become somewhat of a crusade at this point, though, to make sure that fans who have not made up their mind at least hear the other side of the story so that they might give Isaiah the benefit of the doubt. In fact, although I love Burktina, it is Isaiah that I am intense about. I don't care if people think I am too involved. I get involved. If I didn't care I wouldn't spend so much time on this website at all. There are people on this site too invovled about most of the characters. It is that passion for the characters on the show that make it the number one show in the ratings. The last weeks since the Golden Globes has been intense. It was worse than the original round of Isaiah bashing that took place in October and carried over into November and December. It was beginning to wane a bit in January and then the Golden Globes happened. I am hoping that it is dying down again and that the cast is mending, as Katherine Heigl reports. I will take your advice and not respond to people directly unless they ask me a direct question and I will try not to respond to every negative post ini the future. This thread, though, is not where I want to vent about unjust comments made about Isaiah. It is where I really love to talk about the characters of Burke and Cristina and what about them makes them so enjoyable for me to watch. Hopefully that is true of everyone who posts on this thread.Posted 2/13/2007 1:00:00 AM # -
New BURKTINA, PRESTINA, BANG!
Hi Rose, Thanks for your support. I know that Purplemerder is looking out for me and trying to help me understand why sometimes posters get upset with my comments. I do understand, purplemd. I really do. And I will at the very least weigh whether or not that persons' opinion of me is more important to me than what I have to say before posting. That's all I can promise. However, your opinion does matter to me as does Rose's. So thanks for the advice. When my support of Isaiah begins to irritate you, I know I have gone to far.Posted 2/13/2007 1:00:00 AM # -
New BURKTINA, PRESTINA, BANG!
So I hope I have not frightened the Burke and Cristina people away from this great new forum. I was trying to think of my favorite Burke and Cristina moments of each season. Burktinaforever, where are you? What was your all time favorite moment of season two? I have to admit Thanks for the Coffee is my favorite moment ever and it was in season one, but in season two I have a few favorites. One of them was after Thanksgiving dinner in the car when Burke and Cristina share personal information. It is so typical. Burke tells Cristina his mother owns a restaurant. And she tells him about the foreign object removal. That is her idea of sharing personal information. It is so perfect for them. His is about family and where he came from. Hers is about what she did that day as an intern. It says something about their differences. To her sharing what she did as a surgeon is personal and he seemed to get it. I love that they are happy and smiling at each other. It was such a lovely holiday episode. I missed that this year.Posted 2/13/2007 1:00:00 AM # -
Walk On Water
Happy Valentine's Day to you, mcdreamyXlover. It does sound like a great episode. I don't know. They like to shake us up and get us nervous and second guessing. Maybe Kristen got it wrong and first time and right the second time. The first time she said a main character was going to die. The second time she said a main character is going to die this week and then next episode someone else is going to die and one of the two deaths is going to stick. That could still mean that Meredith will come close to death but survive while a less than main character will die next week. I agree, it won't be Bailey. The logical one is Ellis since she is undergoing heart surgery in part three. I am really sorry to hear that Burke and Cristina are going to be fighting again. I am so tired of the fighting. I wish the writers would let them be happy for more than five minutes at a time. What do you think it means that everyone searches for Meredith "while they ponder her place in the world"? I could see having them think about what she means to each of them while they search for her, but her place in the world sounds kind of strange.Posted 2/13/2007 1:00:00 AM # -

Hi Rose, I read Gloria Parks post and really enjoyed it. It is great to hear from new folks sometimes and to get their views. I agree she said things I love too. The elevator scene was the best. I even loved Burke's voice when it gets kind of high like when he said, "for the ladies?" Cracked me up. I agree with cadiex, I am ready for some happy Bang, too, but I am not as worried about last week. I wanted them to be able to share their news with their friends and for everyone to be happy for them. It was disappointing that there wasn't a way to build that into the episode. Bangfan would say that this is just more evidence that Shonda really isn't invested in this couple, but I think she is. I read somewhere that she was quoted as saying that both Derek and Burke are parts of her ideal man. She has kind of taken traits of her dream guy and given them to Derek and Burke. Derek is dreamy and romantic and Burke is passionate and gentlemanly. Both are intelligent and outstanding in their field. I think in some ways she has also given Meredith and Cristina, both, pieces of herself. The dark side of Meredith and the way she approaches her life as well as the driven competitive side of Cristina I think are both parts of Shonda. I think in the long run she is going to want both Meredith and Cristina, the two parts of Shonda, to find happiness with their dream guys. I don't think Shonda will ever let us be sure of what is happening with them though along the way. For Burke and Cristina she will put up obstacles and make us sweat it out right up until the wedding. She is going to keep us on pins and needles and that is actually a good thing. You know she likes to surprise us. If everything was lovey dovey you know something would happen at the end to spoil it all. This way if she keeps us guessing now I think we are more apt to actually have a Bang wedding to look forward to by season's end. I honestly don't mind their mind games with each other as long as it is clear they both care, and they do. Burke's question about why in 45 minutes she hadn't told Meredith about the engagement is just an indication of how much it means to him and how unsure he still is about her love for him. If he didn't care it wouldn't matter so much to him. It reminded me of the scene on the stairs in season two when he wants to tell the chief and she doesn't and he asks if there is some other reason that she doesn't want to admit to the relationship at all. I think he can't quite believe his luck and he still has doubts that she loves him. The same with her really. She knows she can only push him so far and then she backs off because she really does love him and she doesn't want to push him away. So this past week when he asked his question and she didn't really have an answer, she retreated. I wish she could have just said that Meredith seemed preoccupied and that it just didn't feel like the right time. But, they have never communicated very well about things close to their heart. That is what makes the moments like her confession that she believed she was right and didn't want him to forgive her and that it didn't matter because she was in it for the long haul, or his I'm Preston Burke and I love you speech so outstanding. Because it isn't typical of them. Both speeches were extraordinary because it wasn't a usual or ordinary thing for either one to say. So as much as I want to see love making, and dancing, and happy ever after. I am just happy that we get so much evidence that they are very much a couple who care so much about each other. In the long run that is what is most important.Posted 2/12/2007 1:00:00 AM # -

Hi marilovesgreys. I agree with your analysis of the situation. I do think whatever happens to Meredith will have a profound effect on Cristina. The writers have built up their friendship even more this season than last. I agree that Burke's spirituality is going to help Cristina through whatever is going to happen to Meredith and that in the end it will bring them closer together. Meredith is clearly not going to die. But I think there will be a scare and when medicine fails and all that is left is prayer, Burke will be the one to help Cristina through it. So much of Burke's character (and I so agree with you that he is hot and sexy)challenges Cristina to reflect and think on her assumptions. Her character continues to grow and evolve as a response to him. I see this as being one of those times. I am looking forward to the next two episodes. It is easier to look forward to them when you aren't constantly afraid that they are going to kill off your favorite character. It is probably hard for the Meredith fans this week, but seriously they would never have her leave the show.Posted 2/12/2007 1:00:00 AM # -

Hey guys, maybe the blow up fight over announcing the engagement is the one we just saw. Or maybe she will be even more angry that so many people know now that she can't tell Meredith right away. Even so, when the fights are about really pretty superficial things, it doesn't worry me. As long as they love each other, I have faith that they will eventually get the hang of being a couple. If they learned anything from the whole hand tremor thing it was that they don't want to lose each other.Posted 2/12/2007 1:00:00 AM # -

Hi Liliana. I agree. I wish Burke would smile more often, too. He has a killer smile. And I think those glasses are so hot. Don't know why, but I love him in his glasses. The funny thing is in life, well usually anyway and not counting the last few months, he is almost always pictured smiling or being goofy. I think Burke is a good role for him because Burke isn't so much like Isaiah the actor. There seems to be parts of all of the actors in their characters, but Burke is definitely the more serious, intense side of Isaiah.Posted 2/12/2007 1:00:00 AM # -

"I hope their wedding will be the end of the 3rd season…" Me, too, Simba. It would be a perfect way to end the season and then of course something will leave us up in the air and anxious for season four, but I hope it is about Derek and Meredith and not our couple. They just need to get married and have a wonderful honeymoon.Posted 2/12/2007 1:00:00 AM # -

Hi cadiex, I don't think the little girl is going to be Izzies. I thought that at first, too, but her daughter should be about 11 and this little girl can't be more than 6 or 7. I haven't figured out the significance of her yet. She is clearly reminding Meredith of herself as a child, but I am still not sure that the child is real.Posted 2/12/2007 1:00:00 AM #
