The Insider's Meredith vs. Addison Face-Off sparked tremendous passion on both sides as we debated the love triangle to end all love triangles. But following the end of Season Two and the tumultous beginning of Season Three, there's a new game in town. Another triangle, a new player.
The question of the hour: Should Meredith Grey choose Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd over Dr. Finn Dandridge?
YES
I'm not even gonna mention his hair.
That's right, in this defense of why Meredith Grey simply has to choose Derek Sheperd over Finn Dandridge, the flowing, full mane that sits atop this brain surgeon's head -- perfect in fluidity and beauty, scrub caps and hours of incisions be damned -- won't even be referenced.
There are plenty of others reasons why McDreamy has to be the man, the selection, the reassuring influence on an intern who needs to feel loved more than most. Let's start with the animals.
This is a woman whose mother always put medicine first, whose father abandoned her, but found time for another daughter later in life. She sleeps around because she wants to be wanted. But will she ever have such security with a veterinarian? One week she'll be competing with a snake, the next a parrot. It's not Finn's fault that he's an animal lover, but it will be Meredith's undoing.
And, sure, Derek is committed to the hospital, but -- hello?? -- Meredith works at the hospital! The couple can bond over aneurysms, while pressing both the elevator's buttons and each other's. It's like a permanent love nest.
Occupations aside, Finn is too perfect. He's too kind. It's incredible that he brought Izzie lunch and he personifies understanding by tossing his hat into Meredith's troubled ring, even after her prom-iscuity. But never forget the sage words of Dr. Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting. He refers to imperfections as "the good stuff," aware that familiarity of - and affection for - the flaws in another is a sign of intimacy, of true love, of your soulmate recognition.
What's Finn's biggest imperfection, not saying "please" enough times when he asks for you to pass the butter?
There's a reason why nice guys finish last. You need a spark in a relationship. You need heat. Derek and Meredith had sex the first night they met - now there's chemistry! From the first shot of tequila to the ever-lasting shot of McDreamy looking into her eyes, Meredith has been hooked. Tell your brain to stop fighting with your heart, Mer.
Oh, and one more thing: Finn killed your dog.

NO
He loves her unconditionally. He's a caring, compassionate and confident person. He has a great job. And he's got the hair.
Yes, the overlooked veterinarian, Finn Dandridge, has it all going for him. While the competition for Meredith's love is certainly strong, Dr. D should emerge victorious when Dr. Grey's dating experiment is complete.
How can he possibly compete with the Dreamy one? How is the simple and safe choice supposed to win Mer's affection after what took place at the prom? Because he's not the safe choice -- he's the only choice.
Meredith simply hasn't gotten a chance to see it, as Derek has always been in the picture. Until she really lets someone else in, she'll be under the McDreamy spell. But by spending quality time with Finn in the coming weeks, she'll see what she's been missing.
What more could a girl want than a sweetheart who bends over backwards for her; an Irish-American heartthrob whose gaze can make her melt; a guy who's preppy but still masculine, and one whose tousled hair doesn't require a membership in OPEC? Sign me up!
While Derek backers buy anything he sells, let's not forget that McDreamy cheated on his wife. Twice. In between, he dumped his mistress -- for his wife. While no one doubts his genuine feelings for Meredith, she'd be a fool to trust him after what he's pulled.
After all he's been through, the guy simply doesn't have it together right now. As Finn said, he's bad for her. What happens the next time Derek gets the existential blues, feels inexplicably plagued with guilt, or is tempted by the new crop of lascivious interns strutting through the halls of SGH?
McDreamy he may be, but Dr. Shepherd is far from McStable. Finn knows a thing or two about stable, and not just because he births ponies there. This McVet is McSolid when it counts. Finn is a man of character, of decency. A man who will not turn his back on the woman he loves.
Finn lived with the tragedies of losing his wife and mother, and in turn, gained the perspective to know himself and what he wants. He would never desert Meredith, withhold things from her, or lead her on. He is patient, selfless and understanding -- precisely the kind of man Meredith needs after her turbulent first year as an intern.
He has plans. Good ones. Meredith, be part of them.
