We're still watching, so I think that most people are taking the leap. I trust KV more than SR but still a little skeptic on the entire situation.
My problem is that this is a great show as it is, and true, change is unavoidable but if the formula is working, the focus shouldn't set far away from it.
To me it seems that what they are doing (the adding of more people, all at once) is falling out of the wagon. Five doctors in less than a year is a lot, especially if it's in the hopes that they'll stick around longer.
I love this show and I wish that they'd be here forever but since we all know it's impossible, instead of trying to drag around the show for length and lack of quality, set and end date and make excellent episodes. I'm all for the show ending next season but having the originals and quality of episodes.
I don't have any interest in keep watching a bunch of characters that aren't original to the focus of the story.
I feel the pain for C/O shippers. All MerDer fans went through the same thing with Addie and the Plant and it wasn't nice, AT ALL. Maybe they'll get their Candle House at the end of the season?
This whole triangle thing is old for this show. I love GA but sometimes, they make it hard on us. Tough love there.
Seriously?, Word. I'm loving what they're doing with Derek. I'm actually hooked on his storyline right now. Finally, McDreamy is back!
Also, in what world does the writers believe that the post it is going to be taken seriously if all they do is mock it?
I thought Thatcher was drunk, not sick.
Sandra,
Residents don't make much. $30/35,000 a year sounds like it. I'm not sure on the Attending status but if they're the hot-shot that Mark and Derek (I'm not sure if Owen makes the same) are, they earn about $2 million a year.
I think that Izzie meant that they need more to sort of live in the same quality of housing that they lived in Mer's house.
More people. Great. The core cast is already HUGE, is it really necessary for more? In Meredith Grey's own words: Seriously?
I understand the point of having them but I find it highly unnecessary. Instead, why not focus on Mark, Alex, and Cristina's background? Six years and we hardly know much about them. Also, let's see how the Derek vs. Richard thing goes around by exploring each of the reasons of why they became doctors. Bailey's path as an attending and single mother, whatever, just not more characters.
There is so much to do with the old characters that it doesn't make sense the new ones.
I can't see GA turning into ER. It's impossible. Both shows have a different focus on medical drama that GA had to totally transform its story to be like ER. ER managed a huge cast from its beginning and did well until its end. I can't see GA pulling the same thing.
As for A/I, I wouldn't worry much but remember that in this show, it's how couples are, by slipping out. I don't agree with it but at least we know it isn't forever.
I don't think that they'll do it. The whole adultery thing has been overused with Meredith, Derek, Addison, and Mark. Too much. Besides, if Izzie is laid off...how the hell is someone going to have the chance to have an affair with her? I'm not sure about Alex but...at this point, I really don't know.
Thatcher Grey receives absolute zero compassion from me. I think that what he did is unforgivable, especially the fact that he doesn't seem to feel the need to seek a relationship with her estranged daughter.
Meredith doesn't owe him anything and if she does it, she should do it for herself and not to save his life or to please Lexie. Lexie has absolutely no right to beg Meredith for it, especially by being selfish enough to remember that she had all that Meredith lacked.
The only reason that I'm looking forward to this storyline is because I want to see how she involves Derek in it and just to see her rise up and be better than him. Also because I want to see Mark's stand on this. His parents never cared for him, I wonder how he'll support this.
As angry as this makes me, I can't wait to see the episode, LOL.
Didn't knew you were Spanish. Sorry about loosing the Olympics but I am rooting for you guys to win the World Cup next year. :)
Back to the subject,
You're right, emotionally spoiled is a better term for Derek. I blame a lot on that in Addison, even though I love Addison. I really got to believe that their marriage was in serious problems long before Addie slept with Mark because both were like that.
I need more back story on Derek and Mark, like ASAP.
Cristina is a typical spoiled girl but with good ambitions. I think that's what sets her apart. A little too selfish for my taste but that can come out as funny sometimes.
smoker made the comment about Lexie being spoiled and also thought that Derek and Cristina were. I honestly never really thought of it until now.
I think that they might have been used to having a life where everything was handed out, or had it more easily, to them until they arrived at SGH and had some tough fights to overcome.
It was interesting to see it from that POV. I always thought of Derek and Cristina having some troubled childhood due to the loss of their fathers so abruptly at such a young age but they did have some sort of stability at the end.
Derek got into a very luxurious life and Cristina became an A straight student being used to be the best but fate at SGH played a different game.
I dunno. I got interested in the comment and saw it from that POV. :)
jude,
I'd like to see that interaction of Derek and Mark. I think Mark is ironically going to get on Mer's side since his parents never really had an interest on him either. This might be the start of the Lexie/Mark problems.
I also can see Derek calling him out on that because even though his parents didn't care for him, Derek's mom and family did care for him. He did had a family at the end.
I'm so sorry to hear that you went through a similar situation.
I also don't believe Thatcher is going to be man enough to refuse it and wait around for a donor. As we've seen in the show, he hasn't been much of a self-respected person. He also doesn't comprehend the amount of damage he did to Meredith.
smoker,
Interesting, I've never thought of Derek as a spoiled but now that you mentioned it, he just might be. Although I honestly think that Addison turned him this spoiled way. I think that Derek stopped being spoiled last season after the Jenn case. Cristina on the other hand...not so much. Still, I enjoy her.
You are right, I have no idea what it feels like to be in that situation but there are no justification to Lexie's demanding.
I hate Lexie's demands because she's using what Meredith lacked and yearned for. "Just give me MY dad back", "I know he was horrible to you but wonderful to ME". Selfish. She's just rubbing in Meredith's face how great he was with somebody else and not with her, while still being HIS daughter. It disgusts me in all levels.
Like I said, she doesn't UNDERSTAND the damage that he did to Meredith. If anyone has a right to comment or to influence Meredith's decision is the Chief (he saw the damage first hand) and maybe Derek (he does understand it).
I don't argue that Meredith will do it because I think she will. Like Daedra said, she's a better person than he is.
I just hate to see somebody so undeserving like Thatcher receive such a huge gesture. I really, REALLY, want to see Derek and Meredith put him in his place.
I don't know if it makes a difference, character-wise. I can imagine Alex saying to Mer that she shouldn't do it. Although in S2, he advised the kid to give his liver to his dad and be done with him.
Thatcher didn't apologized for that. He was drunk when he came into the ER for that cut. Doesn't count.
Also the AA apology last season? Didn't do it for Meredith. She needed the Chief's apology also to come from Thatcher, not only Richard. Even so, I think Thatcher was only looking for Lexie's forgiveness.
Susan also admitted that it was partially her fault that Thatcher didn't fight for her. However Susan did tried to build a 'fake mommy' relationship with Meredith. Thatcher stood by hoping that it'd magically appear to him.
Ellis was a horrible person but that shouldn't have let Thatcher to absolutely leave her daughter alone and never looked for her again. If it wasn't because of Susan, Thatcher wouldn't even had given Meredith his condolences for the death of Ellis.
I already posted why I thought Lexie was selfish and spoiled in that moment. I'll not be able to make further judgment until the episode but she doesn't really sit well with me in that promo.
I am harsh when it comes to child abandonment, it just doesn't really go well with me.
tvaddict,
EP isn't supposed to miss any episodes but I guess that due to her maternity leave, we'll get Mer in bed and Derek going to check on her or to talk. Can't complain about that.
Also, the following episodes (according to spoilers) are supposed to be the crossovers (Bailey) and stand alone (Derek), so I'd think Mer doesn't have much of a storyline either.
You have to look at the context of the entire situation. Lexie may or may not (to me she doesn't) be entitled to act like that but Meredith shouldn't be pressured or guilt tricked into doing something radical, as giving an organ is, to the person who damaged you severely. As Ace said previously, UNOS doesn't allow organ donation by guilt.
Lexie knows the damage Thatcher did to Meredith but she clearly doesn't get it, she doesn't comprehend the situation, because if she did, she would've had a less 'whiny' reaction and try to talk to Meredith in a more eloquent and calm way.
Saying that "He was horrible to you but wonderful to me" just fuels the fact that Lexie 'stole' Meredith's childhood by having a warm loving family while Meredith had to stand a cold loveless mother. Not fair, is it?
I have a huge problem with Lexie's begging. Huge.
And I don't think Meredith is cold and mean as Thatcher if she doesn't do it. It's not like giving blood, it's an organ. If anything, it may show that Meredith is now strong enough to stand her ground and be able to say no.
There can't be a right or wrong answer to these type of situations.
Interesting info about UNOS. I wasn't aware of the doctor/patient status. Although I don't know if it'll still apply knowing that they are family.
Remember in that same episode, Bailey kind of tricked the cheated wife by guilt that the entire thing would fall down without her and that the father had given the son some money for the kidney. Everyone made the blind eye to that.
In the CTV promo, Richard says that it has to be done that day but that UNOS wouldn't allow an alcoholic to put himself on the list without being sober at least for one year, reason enough for them to go to Meredith.
I absolutely agree about Meredith not giving in anymore. She shouldn't. She has been through enough and Lexie begging shouldn't even make the cut in her thoughts.
I do want to see Derek put Thatcher in his place though.
My bad. I meant EP light. She isn't supposed to miss any episodes but I'm preparing for the worst. :)
They can. As posts here already said, the liver can regenerate itself, so they take out a portion of the liver and put it into the other person to basically have a 'new' liver. Obviously, it's easier to have one of next of kin than a random donor, which is the issue with Lexie, Mer, and Thatcher. I think his blood type is rare (which would make finding a donor a lot more difficult), and Mer has it.
Also, Derek doesn't have to sign any consent form. He is her 'husband' but normally, only the donor's signature is required. I'm assuming (ok, more like hoping) that Derek and Mer gave each other power of attorney.
All I have to say is why the hell isn't Derek chief already? He was the only one who had the courage to go and say goodbye and offer job recommendations. Richard is a coward. Bad bad move on him.
I think Derek's concern for Izzie was more about the panic at SGH for the merger than a real real concern for her. It was about showing the lengths that residents were working to keep their jobs.
Not that it means that Derek didn't really care about her well being but I'm not sure about being worried FOR her.
Oh, and the stair convo between MerDer? Cute. I love Derek's reaction to Mer's calmness. Loving this new Mer. Also, I have to admit that pregnancy really suited EP. She looked gorgeous last night.
My favorite scene of the night (aside from the baseball) is the one with the pudding. LOL. Mean Cristina is great.
I personally don't think that Meredith should do it. Like in the promo, Derek said she doesn't owe him anything. If anything, just a trouble childhood but maybe this will finish her daddy issues. And he hit her. Ugh.

I can't help but to think of the case in S2, when the teen had to donate his liver to the father after the car accident but they'd leave their home since he and his mother were abused by him.
Yeah, I saw them too. Rumor had it that KH's episodes were going to be alternated, not in a row like EP's but at this point, who knows.
But according to some spoilers, episode 6 is going to be part of Bailey's crossover with PP and episode 7 is supposedly Derek's stand alone episode. Hopefully we won't notice KH or EP gone. :)
No, Mer, Alex, and Cristina are third year residents now. I'm not sure about Izzie since she missed quite a good portion of her training due to the cancer.
As for I assume is that S1, S2, and S3 is one year (they'll interns), S4 and S5 is another year.
It had the 1:01 in the DVR but...ugh, technology can be a bitch sometimes. Off to watch PP now.
Oh, and word about Derek. She doesn't owe him ANYTHING.
Cristina in peds? HILARIOUS. The chocolate pudding? Totally Cristina. Although I couldn't believe that Arizona is that naive towards knowing how residents are. Really? I liked her but I had to roll my eyes to her in that.
Lexie is paranoid. Fact. Even worse than that poor schizophrenic kid. Although I understand her crying at the end.
Alex and Izzie? Eh. Alex has a point though. Maybe they should move Izzie to the clinic for some time?
Little MerDer but at least it was cute. Loved the baseball game. I think Owen was speaking to everyone to calm down about the merger.
Chief vs. Derek? The Chief couldn't even face the people he 'knows' after being cut. Honestly, what a coward. I say Round 1 goes to Derek. Nice enough to say goodbye and offer job recommendations. I say put him instead of the Chief.
Next week looks interesting. If it were me, I'd give nothing to Thatcher but I think Mer will do it. Honestly, can't wait.
I'm excited about PP. It really became a much better show with some time in it's back. I just really hope that Pete isn't the father. I want him with Addie.
zizi,

Yeah, I dislike Izzie but I'm trying to warm up to her. I blame a lot on how her storyline was handled (a little too much of Izzie) but it's another season, another try. The last episodes she has been less annoying so maybe S6 will change my opinion.

My favorite scene of all the episode was Addie telling Naomi that she is alone. Kate killed it. It was amazing. Still can't manage to describe it.

The music was also incredible. Really really good.

Yeah, I dislike Izzie but I'm trying to warm up to her. I blame a lot on how her storyline was handled (a little too much of Izzie) but it's another season, another try.
The last episodes she has been less annoying so maybe S6 will change my opinion.
