Meredith Grey

Bio

Meredith puts the Grey in Grey's Anatomy.

No, she actually does. It's her last name, and the series takes its name from the classic anatomy textbook Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body, commonly known as Gray's Anatomy. She narrates the show (with some exceptions), usually with voiceovers at the beginning and conclusion of the program.

Meredith is the daughter of Dr. Ellis Grey, who suffers from advanced Alzheimer's disease and was a close friend of Dr. Richard Webber, the chief of surgery at Seattle Grace Hospital.

She began a love affair with Dr. Derek Shepherd the night before she began her career as an intern, not knowing he was a surgeon at the hospital. She falls in love with him only to discover he is married when his wife Addison comes to join the staff at Seattle Grace.

She shares her house, which once belonged to her mother, with fellow intern Izzie. George used to live with her as well, but moved out following his disastrous one night stand with Meredith. A talented young doctor and a graduate of Dartmouth College, Meredith frequently battles self-doubt and mild depression over the respective situations with her mother and Derek.

In Season Two, Meredith began a relationship with Finn, a veterinarian played by Chris O'Donnell, but had an affair with Derek in the season finale. In the beginning of Season Three, she decided she wanted to be with Derek, even if Finn was the better guy.

Ellis Grey passed away mid-way through the third season of Grey's Anatomy, and Meredith nearly did the same during a three-episode arc in which the doctors attended to a ferry disaster and she almost drowned. Fortunately, Derek and the rest of the doctors were able to save her.

With her stepmother, Susan, also dying inexplicably in the past year, Meredith is once again shrouded in self-doubt, with her relationship with Derek in limbo, entering Season Four.

I am VERY disappointed in last weeks episode, (and others). And the whole Callie/Erica thing is very disturbing and low!!
My co-workers and I were talking about it, and agree that you are scraping very low,for episode topics, in our opinion. You could address this subject in a manner where which we the viewers could imagine this for ourselves, without going into this unnecessary detail.
We all used to get very excited to talk about each episode and look forward to the next one. Now, I think we are going to be very careful and "picky", about what all we want to see on your program.
This subject should be a personal issue, in life, and not broadcasted to all the viewers, on a TV show. Its become nasty and uncalled for!!!
    Sincerely,
    A former, "regular", 'Gray's watcher

this is in response to the above comment.

grey's anatomy is ALL about personal issues and it seems to me that you need to deal with your own prejudices and insecurities about same sex relationships.

if you are implying that you are bothered watching two women develop a loving and intimate relationship with each other then you are homophobic and that's YOUR problem, NOT the writers' problem.

  3. grey'swatcher Says:

I agree with the first poster. I don't care if you call it a prejudice. I've seen way too many shows go from great to bad because they try to ram certain things down everyone's throat. I love this show, I hope it sticks with what worked before. I do not hate anyone. You can disagree with things without hating. Why is it that everytime someone doesn't agree with certain kinds of lifestyles they are called prejudice or hate mongers. I have known gay people that were very nice people and I certainly do not hate them. Just because I don't agree with certain things that they may do. I mean, on the flipside, there are probably alot of things people wouldn't agree with me about as far as how I live my life. I don't think they are prejudice for it and I do not think they are hate mongers. It is just that when sometimes a show may feel like it is having to throw in a storyline that had never previously been part of the show you take note. When something feels like it is contrived and added in merely for the sake of satisfying a certain portion of the viewing audience and feels like it is forced like "oh, we need to add homosexual characters to the story just to make sure certain organizations are happy" it betrays what the shows original charm was. It starts to feel preachy and I bet it will lose alot of viewers. Think about it, that show, The "L" Word, on Showtime, completely sucks. Does it suck because there are homosexual characters on there? No, that is not why. It sucks because that is all they ever talk about. I mean how many shows do you watch where all the characters are heterosexual and they have to mention something about being heterosexual in every other sentence? Like I said, I don't agree with the lifestyle, but that is because of my own beliefs. That doesn'tstop me from thinking that someone like Elton John is one of the most talented musicians I've ever heard and buying his music. He just doesn't try to ram things down peoples throats. Likewise, T.R. Knight's character is probably my favorite character on Grey's Anatomy. Do I hate him because he is gay? Of course not. It doesn't mean I have to agree with the homosexual lifestyle. Hating someone is a horrible thing. So many people have things mixed up. Why are you not allowed to disagree with certain things and not be thought of as someone that hates. That really never has made sense to me.
