Bio
Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) is a long-time rival of Dr. Preston Burke in the field of cardiothoracic surgery, dating back to their days at Johns Hopkins Medical School, where she graduated second in her class - after Burke.
Erica was a cardiothoracic attending surgeon at Mercy West Hospital in Seattle. Back in Season 2, she and her old adversary Dr. Burke fought over a donor's heart.
Because of faulty information from Izzie pertaining to Denny Duquette's condition, he was given the donor heart, much to her dismay. But in an ironic twist, Dr. Hahn was asked to perform the surgery on Denny after Burke was shot outside the hospital.
In Season 3, Erica Hahn was contacted for a consult on Harold O'Malley's valve replacement after George lost confidence in Burke's condition.
She and Burke have a love-hate relationship, and while she would die before saying it in front of him, Dr. Hahn respects and admires Burke tremendously.
She told Cristina Yang - at the time Burke's girlfriend / fiance, that if she became half the surgeon Burke is, that's pretty damn good. In Season Four, with Burke having left Seattle, Dr. Hahn was hired by Chief Richard Webber to head cardiothoracic surgery efforts at Seattle Grace.

Brooke Smith is an extraordinary actress and adds authenticity to the show. She is making the tough Erica likable and she is one of the only actors on the show who makes you think she is actually performing surgery and has respect for the person she is operating on. Bravo to her.

Yes, Brooke Smith is a great actress, I just hated the lesbian storyline, I almost quit watching the show because of it. I hope she finds more (better) work but hope they appreciate her talent enough to give her better story lines. Story lines that everyone could appreciate. She's deserving of it.

ABC or Shonda got cold feet. Probably had some sponsors or Right Wingnuts protest a lesbian relationship. I liked her & how that relationship developed & could have developed more. Brooke's a very good, believable actress. Sets back civil rights another few notches.

Whatever, glm. I started watching the show because of the Erica/Callie storyline. Well, I guess you've gotten your way and can return to your nice safe lesbian-free show. Oh wait...that's actually EVERY show on primetime. I guess I should have been happy with Tila Tequila. Silly me.

what the hell happened i hate that she left!!! major bummer the show is at a loss without her!!

I'm thrilled Erica Hahn is gone. Her character was condescending, arrogant, and rude. I hated the lesbian story line. Guess I'm one of those "right wingnuts."
OH WELL!!

Bummers, Bummed! Too Bad...........so sad.........run back to Tila. No doubt what orientation you are.

Unbelievable that a female doctor would need the anatomical and sexual coaching of a man to please another woman. Really, that was just stupid. Odd that ABC is pursuing such a strong lesbian story line on All My Children. What's the real deal on Smith/ Hahn? Just too stupid a story line- just like the resurrection of "Denny". See ya' Hiegel!

not gonna lie, i too started watching the show because of the erica/callie story. that aside, i think brooke smith is an amazing actress with a character that the writers could have given more humanity to but chose not to. regardless, i'm damn curious why they wrote her off so quickly. i understand if it was because of the lesbian storyline or because of her brash character's lack of appeal with some viewers, or even a combination of the two. but those are both things that could have been changed without losing such a talented actress. without hahn, the show lost its appeal for me, so i guess it's a moot point, but i really want to know the real reason she left so fast.

Ewwwww. No thanks. Grey's is good enough without having to satisfy "others". Do these people have to wiggle their kind of relationships into everything? Also, neither Hahn nor Callie are good looking women so Mark Sloan has nothing to worry about.

Personally. I think the issue was more that Haun became a boring character. The only reason to keep her around was Callica, but beyond that, there was no drama surrounding her. However, i think it would have been SOO much better if they'd played with the fact that erica had to decide whether to report to uknos (spelling?) or battle with it. ugh, it would have been good and I was looking forward to it, but after that? What else could really happen? I mean, she was only involved with Callie and pretty much kept to herself, so she'd get boring without others pretty quick. I dunno, I don't regret saying good-bye to her, but i'm not really glad she's gone. I didn't like her character, I thought she was overly....cold. Compared to the other characters throughout the series. But whatever happens.
