Callie Torres

Played by: Sara Ramirez

Bio

Introduced near the end of Season Two as the love interest of George - and now his wife - this orthopedic surgeon is not afraid to ruffle the interns' feathers.

Dr. Calliope "Callie" Torres first appeared in episode the "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" She met George when treating him for a dislocated shoulder, which he suffered falling down the stairs... fleeing Meredith.

While she appears to be a strong woman on the surface, Calliope clearly has her insecurities. She grew defensive after being criticized by Izzie for not washing her hands after using the bathroom, and actually lives in the hospital basement, as discerned by George in "The Name of The Game."

Yet she clearly adores Dr. O'Malley, which dawned on Izzie eventually, as the blonde beauty famously noted, "Oh my god... George is her McDreamy!"

In the episode "17 Seconds," Callie proclaims her love for George, later revealing that this was the first time she said that to a man. While he didn't say it back, he admitted that he wanted to give himself the chance to. Callie replied that she "hates that she's so into" George.

But she is, just the same. Despite breaking up with O'Malley early in Season Three and having a brief fling with Mark Sloan, she realized she wants to be with George and married him in Las Vegas - possibly in haste after his father had just died. She is not aware he soon had a drunken affair with Izzie, although Callie sure has her suspicions and is determined to keep her man.

update needed here I think?? not George's wife anymore.

I was wondering, is Callie an attending or a resident??

Hate the new story line with Callie and Erica. I don't mind them being lesbians but I don't like the callous way the line is going. "Get your pants off" is pretty crass!!

  4. Susan Says:

I agree, this is VERY crass. And having McSteamy "show" her how--at work--was just a bit much for me. It's struck me as sexist and racist too, but I can't explain why.

I'm taking a break from Grey's. I'll watch again, when they give Callie a more respectable storyline.

  5. Lori Says:

Just about the sexiest and most beautiful character on grey's. Erica is quite sexy herself, so the callie-Erica thing is just simply awesome. Callie's my absolute fav. she makes me want to reach into the TV screen and touch her...her smile is mesmerizing, captivating plus she's down right sexy, not to mention beautiful. Just about the best lead character on grey's. Here's to you Cal!

  9. Barbara Says:

    She's the best!!!
    Always!!!
I need more scenes with her...
I need her with Sloan...but for a true love story...

  10. Ami Says:

Callie is a resident. She's getting closer to her acheiving attending status as she's already getting into a specialty. But as we don't know the ages of many characters, we don't know how long they've been a resident, attending...ect. Except for Yang, Karev, O'Malley, Grey, and Stevens...
