The sixth installment of our Character Interviews features the hot (and hot-headed) intern who's always up to no good. Yet he exudes a certain charm that we can't deny. It was a blast catching up with Dr. Alex Karev. Maybe even a little enlightening. Here's our interview.
——————————–
THE INSIDER: You went to the University of Iowa on a wrestling scholarship. Tell us some of your career highlights, and what it's like to compete in the intense Big Ten Conference.
ALEX: It's where the real men go to test each other's mettle. Every match was like an emergency heart transplant, life or death, no time to think. I held my own, you can be sure of that. Look at me, though, my face is my best attribute. My body couldn't hold up under such constant bludgeoning. Figured a surgical ward could use some prettying up and chose the medical profession instead.
THE INSIDER: As to be expected, it's been tough going for you at times as an intern. What is the most valuable lesson you've learned as a doctor thus far?
ALEX: That looks can't get you everywhere. With the ladies, my bedside manner is never in doubt ... if you know what I mean. But in a hospital, you've gotta be sensitive around the patients and aware of their needs. Look what happened with that gross tumor lady and me.
THE INSIDER: How can we forget. Forgive us for bringing up a sore subject, but we can't believe you inadvertently gave George the syph via Olivia... or that you hooked up with Olivia again while you and Izzie were together. Come on man. What were you thinking?
ALEX: Who says it was inadvertent? Look, George has to man up. I'm sick of his sniveling. That guy lives in this innocent, bumbling world and I can't say I feel too guilty about shedding some light on how things really work. As for cheating on Izzie, it was a mistake. When my man thermometer is asked to take the temperate of a hot chick, I don't always know when to leave it in its place.
THE INSIDER: Eloquently put. Talk to Izzie at all this summer? Any idea how she's doing?
ALEX: [Silent for a few seconds, looks down] I've left a few voice mails, drove by her place a couple times. She doesn't wanna hear from anyone right now. When I lifted her off that hospital bed, her body felt lifeless. Tell her she's on my mind if you hear from her, okay?
THE INSIDER: Will do. Where do you see yourself in five years?
ALEX: I'm a leader. I see myself as a resident, showing interns how they need to take charge in order to get things down. Forget Bailey, I'll be the real Nazi.
