Round Table: From a Whisper to a Scream

This week on the Round Table, Dr. Burke's future is left in doubt, Dr. Hahn makes her presence felt, Alex and Addison share an intense moment, and Seattle Grace sees a new side of George ...

Dr. Burke: What's Next? What will happen to Dr. Burke?

McCritic: Anybody else is fired, stat. But this is Preston Burke. He may have to pass an extensive number of tests to make sure all tremors are in the past, but his reputation and mad skills will save his reputation. Soon enough, the Chief will deliver the two words we all love to hear: Carry on.

iheartizzie: It's doubtful he'll be shown the door, but his prospects of succeeding Richard as Chief of Surgery are on life support.

Married-to-McDreamy: Dr. Burke will be given the golden handshake. With his left hand, of course.

Would Dr. Hahn make a good addition to the staff?

Married-to-McDreamy: Yes. Not only is she a talented cardio-thoracic surgeon with a take-no-prisoners attitude, but she has great hair!

Dr. Hahn: Here to Stay?McCritic: A woman who seems focused on her job and not the opposite sex every second of every day? No way. She'd never fit in at Seattle Grace.

iheartizzie: Dr. Hahn is awesome. She kicked everyone's butt in medical school with the exception of one person, and that eats at her to this day. She's ruthless, but a consummate pro who also gives credit where it's due.

Her rivalry with Burke made both of them better surgeons, and a woman of Erica's talent and strength would invariably raise the bar for the staff.

Do you like the new George?

Married-to-McDreamy: Yes! It's about time George stood up for himself. The new George is finally showing that he is a strong person and it's going to earn him respect in the long run, even if he does manage to piss off all of his friends and colleagues in the meantime.

McCritic: The one that loves his father and remains loyal enough to Dr. Burke to keep his secret quiet? Yeah. He's a pretty good guy.

iheartizzie: Meek, confused and bumbling George is endearing and someone we've grown to love. But you have to stand up for yourself and act strong sometimes, especially when it comes to family. It's good to see that Bambi can evolve into a strong buck, if you will, when the situation calls for it. Sincere apologies for the awful deer analogy.

Would Addison and Alex work as a couple?

McCritic: No. Never. Don't even think about it. Stop sticking your stethoscope on the hospital torso, doctors. There are members of the opposite sex outside Seattle Grace, you know. Sexual tension and awkardness is high enough on this show without any more OR-gies taking place among the staff.

iheartizzie: The sexual tension between Dr. Montgomery and the Vagina Squad Captain is palpable. While this pairing would seem, on the surface, completely illogical, being confined to Addison's service for a time allowed Alex to grow in ways we never knew he could. Maybe these two will share more than just the moment last week. Plus, in Dr. Karev's own words, Addison is McHot, and the Insider wants to start a poll in which readers choose the official couple name - Addex, Alexison, Montgomerev, etc.

Married-to-McDreamy: I'm not sure if they would work as a couple, due to their strong personalities, but they sure do look good together! I would love to see that relationship develop.

Round Table: Staring at the Sun

This week on the Round Table, George grows suspicious of Burke while his father's condition worsens, Alex and Izzie talk in the third person (and kiss), and Meredith gives bright and sunny a try ...

When, if ever, will Izzie give Alex another chance romantically?

Friends... and More?McCritic: McCritic doesn't see Izzie ever giving Alex another chance. It's not Karev's fault. McCritic believes he's a genuine, caring individual underneath that rough exterior. But McCritic also thinks Alex was too close to Denny. It will take Izzie long enough to find romance with anyone, let alone a guy that knew Denny personally.

Just makes it too sensitive. McCritic is sorry, though, and hopes both Izzie and Alex find happiness.

iheartizzie: It will take a while, but the way he handled getting shot down last night was promising. As long as Alex "gets it" and realizes that what Izzie needs most in life is a good friend, the benefits will come eventually.

Married-to-McDreamy: I really do think (and hope!) that Izzie will give Alex another chance but I think it will take time. He needs to be careful with her. She is barely ready to be working again, let alone dating or kissing other boys.

Is George's dad going to make it?

Married-to-McDreamy: This is questionable. The man does not sound like he is in very good shape. If his carburetor is on the fritz, combined with the stage three cancer, his chances of survival seem about as slim as he is. Poor Mr. O'Malley.

Round Table: Where The Boys Are

This week on the Round Table, male bonding is off the charts in the forest, an enraged Bailey strikes back against Cristina, and Mark offers some friendly advice to Meredith ...

Will Dr. Burke and Dr. Shepherd become true friends?

Friends Forever?McCritic: No. They each have too much pride to open up to the other as true friends must. They may bond over a surgery, it's possible they give one another knowing intern-loving winks ... but Dr. Shepherd will never have the running, cooking, coffee canoodling relationship with Dr. Burke that George enjoys.

iheartizzie: My gut reaction is that these guys are far too different, evasive, and arrogant at times to make a lasting friendship works. But Derek needs a group of guy friends, and Burke seems willing to be the flagship member. A self-proclaimed kind and decent person, and one with an assortment of interests, Preston will worm his way into Derek's inner circle one day.

AwayWithMerDer: Absolutely. I think it's time Derek got some new guy friends. I'm pretty sure Dr. Burke will never sleep with Derek's future wife (Meredith of course) behind his back. It's time to open your heart again, Derek.

How much do you love the Chief?

AwayWithMerDer: The Chief was easily the most entertaining character during the camping trip. From his picnic basket to inviting himself to sleep with Joe and his boyfriend. What a ridiculous man.

Richard: Awkward, Lovable

McCritic: More than Callie loves dancing in her underwear.

iheartizzie: More than ever. Richard is as flawed and overwhelmed by the real world as he is talented inside the operating rooms of Seattle Grace, giving his character a real authenticity that we rarely saw in Season 1 or Season 2.

His awkward, but supportive babbling upon realizing that Joe and Walter are gay was one of the show's funniest moments as well. "Man love!"

Round Table: Let the Angels Commit

This week on the Round Table, Izzie and Alex come through for their patients, Derek needs some time, Miranda learns what Cristina's up to, and George likens himself to a farm animal ...

Is George the pig?

George: Not the Pig

McCritic: The man acts a lot more like a chicken, often with his head (or hair, at least) cut off. It doesn't seem like he has the backbone - or hooves - necessary to commit to Callie like a well-trained porker should.

AwayWithMerDer: No way. George is still the chicken. When Callie told George to stop chasing her unless he's ready to catch her, what did George do? Eggs.

iheartizzie: I defer to the devoted readers of Grey's Anatomy Insider to answer this for me, and so far, it's not even close. As of this posting, fans believe by a significant margin that Dr. O'Malley is not oinking material.

Married-to-McDreamy: No, George is unfortunately not the pig. For someone claiming to be ready for committment, George couldn't even muster the chutzpah to give a particularly convincing or heartfelt speech about it. His explanation of this somewhat odd but endearing metaphor came out garbled and convoluted, much like his feelings about Callie. When Callie told him that he'd better be ready to catch her if he plans on continuing to chase her, the look in George's eyes did not scream out committment to me. His decision to walk away, rather than respond, also does not bode well...

More surprising clutch performance: Alex ditching Mark and saving the day in Addison's surgery, or Izzie coaxing the burn patient into a psychiatric evaluation?

iheartizzie: Isobel. She's been on shaky ground even since Denny died, and I wasn't sure how her first day back would turn out. Izzie risked getting burned (so to speak) when she outed Gretchen, but it ended up being a great call.

AwayWithMerDer: I'm going to have to go with Alex. Izzie already had something to prove. Alex? Alex has just really been stepping up these last few episodes.

Round Table Discussion: Oh, The Guilt

This week on the Round Table, Cristina bails out Burke, Izzie refuses to deposit $8.7 million, Addison throws Derek for a loop, and the staff works on a case involving a precarious piercing ...

Should Callie have told George about hooking up with McSteamy?

Dr. George O'MalleyMcCritic: Grey isn't just the last name of an often self-centered intern, it's also an area in which many relationships are found. And it seemed as though Callie and George were smack in the middle of that questionable status when she got her McSteam on. But with the O'Callie union over for good, no, there's no reason for Dr. Torres to have revealed to George that she left her Mark earlier in the week.

AwayWithMerDer: I really don't see a reason for Callie to tell George. It was after the relationship was over (whether George realized it or not). Why hurt the little guy anymore?

iheartizzie: If she were planning on trying to reconcile things with him, then yes. George would have a right to know in that case. But if that breakup was for good, which is what it's looking like, then telling him would only serve to humiliate the guy.

Married-to-McDreamy: No. If she told George, he probably wouldn't have noticed anyway. George didn't seem phased by Callie's break-up, so there is no reason for her to waste energy on being honest with him or trying to make him jealous anymore.

Harder to believe: Someone not cashing an $8.7M check, or someone getting their piercing imbedded in... you know.

iheartizzie: Not depositing the money. Come on, Izzie. No one says you have to use the money if you don't feel you deserved it. But by letting the check sit there and collect orange juice stains, you're costing yourself at least $348,000* annually.

* -- assumes 4.0 percent APR on a money market savings account.

AwayWithMerDer: I'm actually going to say the middle-aged real estate agent getting a piercing down there in the first place is the hardest to believe -- but mighty entertaining anyways!

Round Table Discussion: What I Am

This week on the Round Table, McSteamy joins Seattle Grace, Izzie receives the surprise of her life, George and Callie break up, and Meredith is high on life (and morphine)...

Should Dr. Webber have brought McSteamy on board?

Richard Webber: The ChiefMcCritic: Mark Sloan is the Alex Rodriguez of plastic surgery. The unmatched good looks, the unwavering confidence, the unlimited talent, the New York/Seattle connection. He's a top professional in his field, as the chief noted. But how has that worked out for the Yankees, Dr. Webber? Sloan may have succeeded within the confines of a private practice, but bring him into the public eye and watch him boot a routine case. He has to learn you can't spell "McSteamy" without "t-e-a-m."

AwayWithMerDer: Absolutely. Dr. Webber is running a business, and you need to separate business from pleasure. Unfortunately, the Chief had to make a choice: hire someone who's going to bring in a lot of money (twice that of Derek apparently) or make a poor business decision based on his relationship with Addison and Derek. I think Dr. Webber made a fantastic decision! This shouldn't shock us. After all, he did hire Addison.

iheartizzie: Last season, Richard chastised Derek for punching out Mark with his $2-million-a year hand. Based on the Chief's comments last night, we can assume Mark's hands are worth $4 million annually. Dr. Webber should consider taking out some insurance on these guys, because he's risking a massive financial hit if these former best buds should hit one another. [SIDE NOTE: How much are Dr. Burke's hands worth per year?]

Married-to-McDreamy: Yes. Despite the many distractions going on around him, Dr. Webber still takes his position as Chief of Surgery seriously and knows that bringing a nationally renowned plastic surgeon on board is a smart move. His job requires him to look past the personal conflicts and drama around him and make decisions that will benefit the hospital as a business. And Mark Sloan is that good.

Which couple will be back together sooner: Mark/Addison or George/Callie?

iheartizzie: George and Callie want each other badly, but communication problems are killing them right now. Unlike some people I live with, they're just not good at talking about feelings. But they'll be back. Soon.

Round Table: Sometimes a Fantasy

This week on the Round Table, Izzie stands outside, a Seattle hotel gets a lot of new business, Cristina tries to motivate a downtrodden Preston, and Meredith begs for better dates...

Plan the perfect date with Meredith.

Meredith: More and Better Dates! Stat!McCritic: We'd go to whine country. Get it?!?

AwayWithMerDer: Me, at home, not on it. Meredith, at home, eating ice cream and whining.

iheartizzie: As Derek and Finn have shown us, Meredith enjoys everything from romantic dinners to walks in the woods to pony births, so you could go in a number of directions when planning the ideal date. The real way to this girl's heart, though, is through her liver. Tequila shots at Joe's, baby! Woooo!

Will Cristina's new, tough-love approach to Burke's physical therapy hasten or hinder his recovery?

iheartizzie: It can't hurt, as Preston certainly wasn't looking ultra-motivated last night. The guy needs someone to light a fire under his trembling arm. There's no telling how successful his PT will ultimately be, but at the very least, Cristina picked them up a three-month supply of chicken.

Round Table Discussion: I Am a Tree

This week on the Round Table, Izzie bakes, Callie gets down (and George gets jealous), and Mark makes a McSteamy return. Our esteemed panel weighs in on last night's episode...

Should "I Am a Tree" have been the season premiere, as Canadian viewers mistakenly believed it to be?

Our Contest Winner Is A Lot Like This Character!McCritic: Yes. Little was accomplished in the actual season premiere that couldn't have been condensed and fit into this entertaining episode.

AwayWithMerDer: Since the U.S. season premiere had useless flashbacks and no real plot, I think Canadians got it right. I don't see why they're complaining they got to miss our boring season opener.

Married-to-McDreamy: Definitely not. Had "I Am a Tree" been the premiere, we would have missed watching Meredith struggle with her decision over which of her male courters to choose. Oh wait. That's still happening.

iheartizzie: The actual premiere wasn't all bad, but last night was far superior, a return to the Grey's Anatomy we love. Sandra Oh's native land may gripe, but they actually made out great with this supposed gaffe. To borrow a classic Napoleon Dynamite quote: "Luck-y!"

Jealous George: Sweet and adorable or overbearing and frightening?

Round Table: Time Has Come Today

This week on the Round Table, Izzie grieves, Callie cooks, and mostly-unnecessary blasts from the past are all the rage. Our esteemed panel weighs in on last night's episode...

Why the heck is Finn's hat in any Meredith-related ring?

My Hat Is In.McCritic: Because it lost a bet? I have no idea. Meredith can be sweet and all - but between the hysterics, and obvious parallel, over Doc being put to sleep and then, you know, the sex with Derek at the prom, it's obvious where this doctor's heart lies. Stevie Wonder has 20/20 vision compared to you, Finn. Find a girl that appreciates you.

AwayWithMerDer: Duh, 'cause they were never exclusive. Obviously he can't be angry at Meredith, who was being celibate, for sleeping with a married man. Go Team Finn. He's not pathetic or anything.

iheartizzie: He adores her, despite her flaws. You have to wonder why he's even bothering, though... if he figured out what happened at the prom, he should know his chances are remote. Yet you have to admire him for going down swinging.

Flashbacks: I want more? Pretty huge bore?

Round Table Discussion: Fight or Flight Response / Losing My Religion

On the Season Finale of the Round Table, Burke battles for his relationship (and nervous system), Denny finally breathes his last, Richard grills the interns, and Mer and Der... Get. It. On.

Better example of true love: Izzie/Denny or Mer/Der?

The Truest Love? McCritic: It can't be a coincidence that Mer/Der is starting to sound like the eerie command of a murderer, can it? That duo is killing the concept of true love! Screw rules, forget boundaries, show no restraint, act insane and irrational on occasion, just follow your heart - Izzie and Denny were the portrait of passion and devotion. I wish he hadn't died.

iheartizzie: I heart Izzie. Really. I grew to like Denny, too, and wanted them to grow old together. But sadly, this relationship barely got off the ground. It didn't even get out of bed! So I'm going with the latter couple, as both members are alive. That, and despite my personal loathing of MerDer (flood my inbox with hate mail, fans!), you can't dispute their passion. The yearning in Derek's eyes while dancing revealed how paralyzed he is with love for her.

Married-to-McDreamy: As much as I believe Derek and Meredith love each other and will end up together, I think the love shared between Izzie and Denny was truly the purest form of this emotion. Originally, I felt that these two couldn't possibly know they loved each other, as they never experienced anything together outside of that hospital room. However, my beliefs changed when Denny proposed to her. After watching them interact through the toughest of emotional battles, it became obvious to me that their love was very pure and sweet (Izzie's psychotic outbursts notwithstanding).

Which intern's one-on-one talk with Richard left the most lasting impression?
