Private Practice Episode Guide: "The Way We Were"

It may be a month after the events of the season premiere fell into place and everybody came out of that situation okay, but the doctors of ABC's Private Practice are still a mess.

Addison is upset at losing Noah, even if her affair with him was only emotional. She's also sad about losing Nae as a friend, as Sam laments losing her in a totally different way.

Cooper can't get over the fact that he let that happen to Violet, even if she says it isn't his fault. Pete and Sheldon still don't know how to feel about Violet and her new baby.

Worst of all, neither does Violet herself. She's still so traumatized and lost after what she went through. She says she doesn't even feel anything toward her own little boy.

Coming to Private Practice: Addison's Father

Last season, Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy viewers got to know more about Addison's past as her brother Archer battled through a life-threatening disease.

From her tenure on Grey's Anatomy to her role as the leading lady of Private Practice, her history has been hinted at more than it has been explored. Until recently.

Fans will soon learn a lot more about her privileged background in this third season, according to reports, in a November episode aptly titled "Sins of the Father."

That's when Addison's dad drops in to Oceanside Wellness Center. Barry Bostwick will guest star as the man known as The Captain, so you know he's important!

Kate is AddisonBarry B.

To the surprise of no one, the redheaded daughter and her father “have bad blood between them,” the show insider revealed. “It’s a very tense relationship.”

Bostwick is best known for his former role as the Mayor on Spin City. But in 2009 alone, he has appeared on Nip/Tuck, Ghost Whisperer and Supernatural.

Private Practice is all-new tonight after Grey's Anatomy.

Private Practice Sneak Peek: "The Way We Were"

Now that Violet and her baby are safe, everything is back to normal Private Practice, right? Not in your life. Cooper, Pete and especially Violet herself are having a tough go of it.

Everyone's a bit shaken up by that and more, it turns out.

In the sneak preview below, Addison and Sam agree to ... be in denial about their respective problems. Strong, but in denial. Check out the funny clip from "The Way We Were" ...

Private Practice Recap: Season Three Premiere

By popular demand, since there are a ton of Private Practice fans out there, here's a little post for you to discuss last night's episode, with a link to a full recap as well!

Private Practice picked up where we left off last season, with Violet's baby having been stolen by a mentally ill patient who left her drugged and bleeding on the floor.

As flashbacks told us the story of how Pete came to the practice and forged his relationship with Violet, the Oceanside docs frantically did all they could to save her life.

Did she live? Yes. We knew she would. But did the baby? Was the baby even found? And what did this episode tell us about Pete and Violet and their past - and future?

Alexie Gilmore to Appear on Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice

Actress Alexie Gilmore is busy shooting an episode of Private Practice this week.

After that, her character will "cross over" to Grey's Anatomy in the ABC drama's latest joint venture with its successful spinoff. As we know, the hospitals in Seattle and Los Angeles have shared patients and doctors with one another in seasons' past.

On Private Practice, Gilmore plays a dying woman who needs a kidney transplant, and her sister is the only person who can give it to her. According to the L.A. Times, she's already had to undergo the torso mold to prepare for her surgery scene.

No word yet on what will happen to her character on Grey's Anatomy.

The crossover concept is part of the network's multiple-character sweeps plan to boost viewership for both. Judging by last season's, it should be a success. Chandra Wilson's character, Dr. Miranda Bailey, is believed to be crossing over to Private Practice this year.

Chandra Wilson to Appear on Private Practice

Shonda Rhimes is anti-Grey's Anatomy spoilers, but with a bus full of reporters visiting the set Tuesday, she revealed a little scoop on the upcoming season.

Specifically, Grey's Anatomy star Chandra Wilson will cross over to the world of Private Practice in the season's third episode this fall, Rhimes said during the visit.

Miranda Bailey will travel to L.A. to visit her former colleague Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) and perform a "very interesting" medical procedure, Rhimes says.

Bailey being Bailey, she'll also not be shy about sharing her opinions about the goings-on at Oceanside Wellness, the creator and producer of both shows adds.

ABC also confirms that Party Down star Ken Marino (who was on set Tuesday) and former ER actress Kellie Martin will also guest in the first batch of episodes.

Boss Bailey

The crossover of Chandra Wilson's character to Private Practice will continue the relatively free movement of characters between Grey's Anatomy and its spinoff, which debuted in 2007.

Walsh has appeared on several episodes of Grey's Anatomy the past couple of seasons, and this past spring Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd guested on Private Practice, while Taye Diggs and Audra McDonald also revealed their ties to Derek's past.

The new season of Private Practice will pick up only a few minutes after last season's finale, which ended with off-her-meds patient Katie (Amanda Foreman) injecting Violet (Amy Brenneman) with some paralyzing drugs and about to steal her baby.

The season premiere will deal with the immediate aftermath, while episode two will jump ahead a few weeks, Amy Brenneman says. We can't wait to see what transpires ...

Private Practice Recap: "Yours, Mine & Ours"

Grey's Anatomy still has two more weeks - and three episodes, counting the two-hour finale May 14 - to go this season, but Private Practice wrapped its second campaign last night in emotional, dramatic and slightly disturbing fashion for one character.

A conflicted Addison nearly consummated her affair with married Noah, Dell got his daughter back from Rebecca, Sam professed his love for Naomi (who did not reciprocate), Charlotte got the axe from her boss, who hired Naomi instead, and Violet ...

Well, if you saw it, we can't do it justice. If you missed it, you really won't believe this cliffhanger of an ending and need to read the full rundown of events.

Private Practice Episode Guide: "What You Do For Love"

After a terrific Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice returned last night and did not disappoint. By request, we'll post a link to our sister site's episode guide each week!

Pete decided to break things off with Lisa (Idina Menzel, wife of co-star Taye Diggs, below), for an uncertain future with Violet. But Sheldon also proposed to Violet.

Naomi was wooed away from Oceanside, Cooper was his typical Cooper self, Dell was down in the dumps, and Addison's chemistry with Noah continued to grow.

Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice Crossover is Ratings Hit

The ongoing Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice crossover event, which continues tomorrow with "An Honest Mistake," has been called a much-hyped ratings ploy by some.

If that's the case, well, it's definitely working.

ABC struck gold with the highly-anticipated crossover of the twin medical dramas, in which the main story line intertwined, by earning top ratings last Thursday.

Both Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy ratings averages were up from the week before, and the two handily beat out the competition on Thursday night, with Private Practice surprisingly having the easier time accomplishing that, according to reports:

  • Grey's Anatomy's 5.8/14 rating trumped perennial rival and typical ratings winner CSI's 4.9/12 and a strong showing from The Office with 4.6/11.
  • On the other hand, Private Practice's competition was a total non-factor, with Eleventh Hour and ER posting modest 2.7/7 and 2.6/7 numbers.

Addek Reunion

Private Practice, of course, is a spin-off of Grey's Anatomy, starring Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery, ex-wife of Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd (seen above last week).

Walsh left to pursue her own show after Season Three of Grey's Anatomy.
