Jessica Capshaw Previews Tonight's Grey's Anatomy

Last week, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) stepped into the spotlight, saving a co-worker's legs and life. This week, it's up to Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) to test both her ethics and her surgical skills in the night's central medical case.

Her patient, age 10, happens to have parents who happen to have millions to donate to the hospital. Could Arizona personally bring Seattle Grace out of economic turmoil?

Jessica Capshaw sat down with TV Guide to talk about the challenges her character will face, upcoming speed bumps for Arizona and Callie and all things Grey's Anatomy ...

Q: What can you tell us about the Arizona-centric episode?

Jessica: I have a patient who I fight very hard for. Everybody feels strongly about it and it's a very high-stakes episode. It's life or death. The episode speaks to the whole idea that money runs the hospital. The chief [James Pickens, Jr.] is having a hard time figuring out how to make the hospital ascend the ranks of the numbers game, [and] money helps make that happen.

This week, Arizona's case happens to involve a set of very wealthy parents who have the ability to give or not give in a very consequential way.

Q: Arizona seems to have a pretty straight moral compass. How will she feel in making these decisions based on money?

Jessica: Yeah, she's a little perfect that way [Laughs]. This episode has all of that in mind, but at the same time, we are all only human and we can all only ever do the best that we can.

Sometimes the best we can, in her case, leaves her a little more vulnerable to the elements and to the story and what's happening. She has to make choices that are hard as a surgeon, but also as a pre-eminent doctor in a hospital that is part of the reason people are giving money or not.

Jessica Capshaw Previews "Heavy" Grey's Anatomy Premiere

We hope you've got a box of tissues handy, or perhaps two, because you can expect to use them when Grey's Anatomy returns for its sixth season on Thursday, September 24.

Jessica Capshaw, the newest series regular (Dr. Arizona Robbins), teases the aftermath of George's departure and how things will be different on the set without T.R. Knight.

"Heavy" is the best way to describe this season, as compared to Season 5.

Also, with Amy Brenneman's comment on the drama at Grey's Anatomy, Jessica reveals how she deals with 17-hour workdays (ahem, Katherine Heigl), since she also has a child.

Most importantly, the 33-year-old actress spills on just how Callie Torres' (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona Robbins' budding relationship is going to progress in this coming season.

Check out the E! News video below to get the details on why the Season Six premiere will be the best yet, and then hit the comments below to share your impressions ...

Jessica Capshaw: Katherine Heigl is a Powerhouse

New cast member Jessica Capshaw is gushing over Grey’s Anatomy.

“I personally was a fan of Grey’s Anatomy before I went there so I run the risk of sounding - now that I get to be a part of the cast - braggy because I think it’s awesome!” says the actress, who plays Seattle Grace’s newest resident, Dr. Arizona Robbins.

Talking to People at the the One Year Anniversary Party for 3.1 Phillip Lim Los Angeles store, Jessica Capshaw cited the tear-jerking finale as a reason to love the drama.

“I’ve heard a lot of people tell me what [was great about the fifth season finale was] the insane pace and how heartbreaking it was,” the 32-year-old actress says, “and emotional and intense - and all of the good things you tune into television for.”

Although T.R. Knight has officially left, Capshaw says she’s happy to have more time to bond with co-star Katherine Heigl, whom she called a “wonderful woman.”

“She’s a powerhouse. She’s beautiful, she’s funny, she’s strong and she’s certainly got a burden of riches right now,” Capshaw said of The Ugly Truth star.

“[Katherine Heigl] has a wonderful career in so many different ways. She’s always struck me as someone who is really aware at how wonderful she has it.”

Jessica Capshaw Promoted to Full-Time Cast Member

On the same day that Grey's Anatomy bid farewell to T.R. Knight, some good news has emerged: Jessica Capshaw has been promoted to a full-fledged cast member and series regular.

Her promotion news hardly comes as a surprise.

Last month, series creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes all but signed off on Capshaw's promotion in an interview after the shocking Season Five finale.

"I love Jessica Capshaw," she gushed. "And when I say love I mean love. She couldn't be a more wonderful person, and I feel like the chemistry Arizona and Callie have feels like the Meredith and Derek chemistry to me. I find them delightful to watch."

For her part, Jessica Capshaw said she hoped to join the cast full-time in Season Six, having only good things to say about her experience so far. Glad she got her wish!

The ex-Practice star joined Grey's Anatomy last February as Dr. Arizona Robbins, a recurring love interest for Sara Ramirez's Callie. Her arrival came on the heels of the controversial dismissal of Brooke Smith as Callie's girlfriend Dr. Hahn.

Jessica Capshaw Hopes to Become Grey's Anatomy Regular

While fans of Grey’s Anatomy have been left to speculate on the future of original cast members Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight, some of their co-stars are no better off.

Access Hollywood caught up with Jessica Capshaw, who plays Dr. Arizona Robbins on Grey's, to as if she had any insight on the respective futures of Izzie and George.

“I will absolutely be quoted as saying [series creator and executive producer] Shonda Rhimes is an absolute genius because she doesn’t tell anyone anything,” Jessica said.

Not knowing what lies ahead is just fine with Jessica.

“That’s actually very generous of her because she doesn’t want to burden us with knowing and not being able to tell you – or telling you!” the actress added.

The beautiful, talented Jessica Capshaw.

However, Jessica’s own future with the show also remains up in the air – she revealed she has yet to receive her renewal letter (although ABC has until June 20 to send it).

“Knock on wood,” she said.

The 32-year-old actress, who joined the show in its fifth season, was hopeful she would be returning to Seattle Grace, along with the rest of the Grey's Anatomy cast.

“It’s fantastic. It’s funny that there’s so much drama surrounding the show, because you’ve never met a group of more decent people,” she said. “It’s as normal as it gets.”

Ellen Pompeo: Excited For Motherhood

Ellen Pompeo is ready to be a mom!

"She is so on top of it, and she is so excited and she is very sweet about it," Grey's Anatomy co-star Jessica Capshaw (Arizona) told Us Weekly at an event at the Byron & Tracey Salon in Beverly Hills on Thursday. "She is doing all her research."

Capshaw - who had her first child, Luke, in September 2007 - says she hasn't had to give any parenting advice to her pregnant co-star.

"She doesn't need any," the actress tells Us. "She is exactly the way that she should be about it, which is really excited and hopeful but at the same time really pragmatic and planning."

"I think that is the best way for her to be."

Pregnant Ellen

Ellen Pompeo, 39, announced in April that she and her music producer husband of a year and a half, Chris Ivery, are expecting their first child.

Capshaw - who stars as Dr. Arizona Robbins in the hit ABC series - doesn't know if her pregnancy will be written into next season's show, and she's equally unaware if T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl will return (rhe two appeared to have died in the season finale).

"No one knows!" Capshaw says.

She adds: "[Show creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes] is keeping it under wraps, and I think the best thing about that is she is the guardian of the gate. It's better that way. She doesn't even run the risk of it coming out because nobody knows."

Jessica Capshaw Offered Grey's Anatomy Contract

Better get used to Callizona!

Grey's Anatomy has signed Sara Ramirez's latest guest-starring lesbian crush, Jessica Capshaw, to a contract, sources have confirmed to Entertainment Weekly.

The deal calls for the 32-year-old actress to appear in all remaining episodes of the current fifth season with an option to return as a series regular next fall.

The former Practice star joined Grey's Anatomy last month as Seattle Grace pediatrician Arizona Robbins. While she was initially signed to guest star in only three episodes, the possibility had existed that it could turn into something more permanent.

Dr. Arizona Robbins

Capshaw's promotion should silence critics who sounded the anti-gay alarm after ABC kindly asked Grey's Anatomy executive producer Shonda Rhimes to banish Callie's first girlfriend, the brusque and ballsy Dr. Hahn (played by Brooke Smith), to the parking lot.

"The character was not working for us and the relationship was not working for us," ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson acknowledged last month at press tour.

What do you think of this news? Despite forming one of the best couple names ever in Callizona, are the two clicking romantically? Do you like her?

Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Sara Ramirez Rumors

Here's the latest on rumors involving Callie Torres - and rumors that Sara Ramirez may be leaving the show (it doesn't look like that's true) - from TV Guide's Matt Mitovich ...

Q: I heard a rumor that Sara Ramirez has been offered a new TV show in which she will star. While I question the reliability of the source, I hope this is true. She is a talented actress who does not get any recognition or decent writing for her Grey's Anatomy character.

A: "Que sera, Sara?" you ask? Ramirez's rep says, "We haven't heard that rumor" about her being courted for a series of her own. In the meantime, I'm told that Grey's Anatomy's bi-curious Callie Torres will pick up where she and Erica left off, this time with the pediatric surgeon, Arizona, being played by Jessica Capshaw beginning January 8. But contrary to what you may have heard, these two won't start steaming up until Capshaw's third (of at least several) episodes.

An Intense Callie

Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Callie and Arizona?

What is the deal with the love life of Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez)?

Hahn is out ... Sadie is possibly in ... Mark is always hanging around.

Well, according to the Los Angeles Times, Jessica Capshaw is joining Grey's Anatomy for a three-episode story arc as pediatrician Dr. Arizona Robbins, who comes to Seattle Grace to help Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) on a difficult surgical case.

That much isn't new - but now the word is that she's also going to share at least one kiss with Callie! Arizona will be a love interest for Callie for those episodes.

But what about Sadie (Melissa George) and the insinuation in last night's episode, "All By Myself," that Callie and Sadie might be heading toward a romance?

Sources say despite their initial flirtation, this will not really go anywhere. But that does not mean Sadie will be totally out of the love loop at Seattle Grace.

"She'll be having lots [of love interests]," Melissa George said. "Of course, it's Grey's Anatomy. Everybody loves everybody. The girls, the guys, everybody."

Jessica Capshaw to Guest Star on Grey's Anatomy

The list of Grey's Anatomy guest stars keeps on growing.

On the heels of the arrival of a new head of trauma, Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) comes word that another fresh face will soon be scrubbing in at Seattle Grace.

Jessica Capshaw (The L Word, The Practice) will play Dr. Arizona Robbins, a pediatrician who’s called in to consult on a case and ends up butting heads with Dr. Bailey.

According to the L.A. Times, Capshaw is signed for at least three episodes, though that could lead to more. She will make her first appearance midway through Season 5.

Jessica Capshaw

Jessica Capshaw is the latest to sign on for a high-profile Grey’s Anatomy guest stint.

Both Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Gallactica) and Melissa George (Alias) begin their runs in the November 13 episode, called "These Ties That Bind."

They will play a cardiac surgeon with Asperger’s syndrome and a bisexual intern who shares a past with one of our favorite characters, respectively.

Combine that with McKidd and another cameo by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (the late Denny Duquette of Season Two fame) and we've got quite the guest roster this fall.
