Grey's Anatomy Season Premiere: The Shocking Preview

We just got our hands on this amazing promo for the two-hour, fifth season premiere of Grey's Anatomy. Watch in awe - and tell us what you think!

Man. We don't even know where to begin here:

  1. Is Rose really pregnant with Derek's child, or is this a classic Shonda Rhimes' misdirection? Are her lips even moving in that clip?
  2. We're pretty sure they're moving in together, but will Meredith say yes to Derek's off-handed, quasi-proposal that they get married?
  3. And finally, when the Chief declares "we are saving this man," can this mean the unthinkable - that Derek has indeed been in an accident? Look at a screen cap of the injured man below. Does it look like McDreamy?

Derek

Is Derek badly hurt in the season premiere, as some have predicted?

Classic Grey's Anatomy: Season Five Promos

These Grey's Anatomy promos are a few weeks old, and don't contain any new footage. Just classic scenes from Season 4, such as Meredith and Cristina dancing away the pain and Derek and Meredith's season-ending embrace.

Still worth a look. Here's one, with the second after the jump!

Catching Up on Grey's Anatomy: A Starter Kit

In case you are a new fan (or just can't get enough Grey's Anatomy), ABC has released a five-minute "starter kit" to get you caught up on the great series to date.

There are actually some pretty cool clips in here, and it's certainly fun to relive some of the old drama, even if most of us have seen all of these scenes before!

Grey's Anatomy Season 4 Bloopers

In anticipation of Season 4 of Grey's Anatomy being released on DVD September 9, here's a blooper reel of the cast that we think you'll enjoy. These clips are great!

Kate Walsh May Return Again This Season

Kate Walsh has a big job ahead for fall. First and foremost, the actress has to help with the relaunch Private Practice, the much-touted but somewhat disappointing spinoff of Grey's Anatomy about a beach-based group of randy L.A. doctors.

But even though her character, Dr. Addison Montgomery, is starting to settle in at the Oceanside Wellness Center (David Sutcliffe guest stars as her boy toy!) she may take another trip back to Seattle Grace sometime this year.

The creator and executive producer of both shows, Shonda Rhimes, sort of hinted at this in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"I don't know if it's going to work with the story, and we don't want her to come back for a visit if it doesn't feel important, something only Addison can do," says Rhimes, wary of it being seen as a stunt. "But the idea is on the table."

This wouldn't be the first return of Addison; the redhead showed up in a Season Four episode of Grey's Anatomy last spring with Private Practice on hiatus.

What's Next For Alex Karev?

The new TV Guide feature on Grey's Anatomy - with its dual covers of Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey - lacks much of anything on Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). He came into his own last year, and fans want to know what's next.

A reader wrote in to TV Guide about this and here is how Matt Roush replied ...

Q: I just read the Grey's Anatomy article in the new issue of TV Guide. I was extremely disappointed that there was no mention of Alex's character. Do you know if there will be any major storyline for the character in Season 5? Alex fans (well, me at least) have been waiting season after season for a major arc for him. He's the only original intern that has not had a major arc focused on him. It's about time, don't you think?

Piece of Her Mind

A: All I know is what we printed, and I consulted the editor of the piece, who says nothing about Alex was left on the cutting-room floor. So the answer is: I don't know (and if I was sitting on a Grey's Anatomy spoiler, I probably wouldn't share), but it's hard to imagine him not being involved in at least some of the major storylines, and I'm thinking whatever they have in store for Izzie would probably have some impact on Alex. I agree he's a terrific character, one of my favorites, and I enjoy the way Justin Chambers plays him, but that's possibly because he hasn't been overused. His most prominent storyline was the Jane Doe/Ava/Rebecca relationship, which seems to me a pretty major arc (although one that probably went on too long). The most common gripes I hear about Grey's Anatomy come from fans of any character who isn't Meredith or Derek. Face it. They're the stars, and the others are satellites who shine bright at key points of the season, but they're not the engine and they'll probably never be.

Grey's Anatomy: Not Accurate Enough For Italy?

Television programs with medical and hospital themes often get so many of the details wrong, according to a leading Italian medical group, that the country's main broadcasters should refrain from airing them.

Offending programs include imported fare such as ER, House, Grey's Anatomy and Scrubs, along with a host of Italian-made productions, several of which were scheduled to premiere with state broadcaster RAI in September.

Denny, How Goes It?

The National Federation of Medical Colleges feels that the shows should not air and The Order of Medical Professionals of Rome echoes that view.

Annalisa Silvestro, NFMC president, says that the programs are "teaching viewers inaccurate views on medicine," and "spreading misinformation."

There has been no word on whether RAI and Mediaset are actually lame enough to actually adjust their programming in response to the protests.

If they are, maybe they should read these Grey's Anatomy Season 5 spoilers. Medicine totally plays an important role in the relationships, people!

Grey's Anatomy Season Five Cast Pictures

These Grey's Anatomy cast photos were actually taken in Season Four, upon the additions of Brooke Smith (Erica Hahn) and Chyler Leigh (Lexie Grey).

But since they're pretty cool, and still pertinent, and we don't believe we've posted them yet (although you may have seen them before), here you go:

Our Grey's Anatomy Wish List For Season Five

It's hard to believe Grey's Anatomy is entering its fifth season next month. In honor of this much-anticipated, make-or-break fifth campaign, we've put together five things we're hoping for when the Grey's Anatomy cast returns September 25 ...

  1. MerDer love. Not MerDer angst. Further elaboration unnecessary.
  2. Happiness for The Chief. We know Chief Webber (James Pickens, Jr.) is more of a supporting character, but his on-again, off-again tribulations with Adele make no sense. Let's have them stay together, be happy and just ... carry on.
  3. A Cristina Yang love interest. Regardless of how you feel about Isaiah Washington, the show has not been the same without Preston Burke. While no one could replace that man, a new love interest for Cristina would be a welcome this year, as Yang finally tries to put the past behind her.
  4. A spectacular Izzie flameout. We heart Izzie, and certainly don't wish our girl any harm. But we're getting a wee bit tired of see this terrific character reduced to whining and treading water emotionally. Note to producers - give her something interesting to do, or get rid of her in style!
  5. More Alex back story! The finale of Season Four gave us more of a glimpse into the mind of Alex Karev than we've had in... well, four whole seasons. We hope the scene pictured below is the gateway to more interesting revelations about a young doctor whose personal life - and background - is still the least known.
