"Lay Your Hands On Me" Sneak Preview

In this sneak preview of "Lay Your Hands On Me," Dr. Bailey's son, Tucker, is being operated on after his accident, and the emotional Bailey insists on watching while Dr. Hahn operates. That doesn't go over well with Hahn and the Chief. See below...

Certainly looks like an emotional episode, in what will sadly (in all likelihood) be the last of Grey's Anatomy's Season Four, given the ongoing writers' strike.

Without a doubt, the month-long anticipation (not to mention some of the plot lines and spoilers) has prompted serious discussion about "Lay Your Hands On Me." We can't wait to finally watch the drama unfold Thursday night at 9.

Friday's Episode: "A Change is Gonna Come"

In an unusual move, ABC will be showing a special Friday encore of the Grey's Anatomy Season Four premiere, "A Change is Gonna Come," at 8 p.m. EST.

If you desire any information on this episode, follow the link above for our official recap, and be sure to check out our music guide (with lyrics), video clips, list of quotes, photos, staff round table discussion and episode forum thread.

MerDer Love or Hate?

The next - and quite possibly the final - episode of a tumultuous Season 4, "Lay Your Hands on Me," will air next Thursday, January 10, at the usual time.

Tonight's Episode: "The Heart of the Matter"

Tonight, ABC will air a Grey's Anatomy repeat, an episode we saw earlier this fall in "The Heart of the Matter." You can follow the action in our episode guide.

The Insider has posted a list of the episode's music selections (comment or e-mail us if you can find any missing lyrics) as well as a photo gallery and list of the best Grey's Anatomy quotes. Our staff also sounded off in its round table discussion.

Being Chief

As always, you can talk about "The Heart of the Matter," along with all else Grey's Anatomy, in the Insider's FORUM. We welcome all your views and comments!

As we reported last week, the next new Grey's Anatomy episode - and possible strike-induced season finale - is set for two weeks from tonight, January 10.

New Grey's Anatomy Episode Set For January 10

If we were in the midst of a real TV season, we would know what programs are going to air when. But this is Strike Season, the network executives are basically throwing everything they have against the wall and seeing what sticks.

To that effect, ABC has announced a change in the air date for what will in all likelihood be the final Grey's Anatomy of the season, while NBC has announced yet another premiere date for the destined-to-bomb Celebrity Apprentice.

Grey's Anatomy's strike-induced, likely season finale was originally supposed to air back on December 13. ABC pushed it back to January 3 in order to make sure viewers don't keep the TV off after the ball drops on New Year's Eve.

Celebrity Apprentice was originally supposed to premiere on that same night, but once NBC realized it would be going up against Grey's Anatomy, well, they scooped up Celebrity Apprentice and scheduled it for January 10.

Punishment Awaits

Not even NBC will mess with Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson).

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC is making a move that has NBC fuming: they're moving the last unaired Grey's Anatomy episode, the 11th of Season Four, to January 10, right up against Celebrity Apprentice.

So what does NBC do?

Under normal circumstances, perhaps the Peacock would put up a fight, but its patented "writers strike freakout schedule" is at stake, so no dice. Instead, NBC moved Celebrity Apprentice back to its original January 3 premiere date.

All of this just goes to show you: Donald Trump may be willing to put up his dukes against Rosie O'Donnell, but Dr. Miranda Bailey? Forget about it!

The WGA strike - which is wreaking havoc with schedules and cutting short the seasons of hit shows old (Grey's Anatomy, CSI) and new (Gossip Girl, Private Practice) looks poised to continue into its second month with no end in sight.

At issue are pay scales for online-driven royalties as well as an ideological battle between the WGA and the studios that employ its members. Only time will tell how it plays out, but the remainder of the TV season is undoubtedly in jeopardy.

Tonight's Episode: "Let the Truth Sting"

ABC will be airing "Let the Truth Sting" Thursday night and while we certainly would prefer a new Grey's Anatomy episode, we can at least relive the action with a fun Season 4 episode. For a full rundown, feel free to read our recap.

There's also our list of the episode's music, our photo gallery, list of memorable Grey's Anatomy quotes, and staff round table discussion and forum thread.

OMG Really Old Guy Woke Up!

No End in Sight For Strike as Writers Dig in

Eight months ago, Patric M. Verrone, president of the Writers Guild of America West, sketched out what could have been a script for the collision that wrecked talks between Hollywood's producers and striking writers on Friday.

Verrone described the looming negotiations with employers as a confrontation much grander than a fight over pay formulas. This would be about respect.

Writers, he said, were looking to restore a sense of leverage and status that had been lost many years ago as ever-larger corporations began taking control of the entertainment business. He described Hollywood as teetering on the brink of a dark age, as far as creative types were concerned.

"I think if they could do this business without us, they would, and so making our task as mechanical and simple and low-paying and unartistic as possible," Verrone said.

The solution, he added, was to squeeze the corporations that own the studios, in an effort to represent the legion of writers on reality and animated shows that the guild had not organized through sign-up drives.

"There are things we can ask for in bargaining that will allow you to reach up to the mother ship and then back down into the nonunion company," he said.

On Friday night, five weeks into the writers' strike that now promises to drag on well into the new year, seriously complicating plans for this TV season and the next, and opening the door to a tube filled with reality TV shows and other substitutes, it became clear that Verrone & Co. were serious when they talked about a revolution.

Writers' Strike Continues
Advocates of a strike settlement stage their own protest.

After days of haggling over complicated formulas for Internet pay, the latest round of talks blew up over the deeper issues that had until now been buried.

Accusing the guild of pursuing "an ideological mission far removed from the interests of its members," the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers expressed outrage over continuing demands of the writers not strictly related to pay.

These points include requests for jurisdiction over the individuals who write for reality TV shows and animated movies; for oversight of the fair-market value of company transactions that may affect writer pay; and ending a no-strike clause that prevents members from honoring picket lines of other unions once a contract is reached.

Richard surveys the damage of the ambulance crash outside Seattle Grace.

We also have posted our music guide, gallery of photos and list of Grey's Anatomy quotes from Part I. As always, our forum thread is open for discussion as well!

Thursday, "Crash Into Me, Part II" will pick up where this episode left off - Lexie trying to save Nick, Ava back at Seattle Grace, Mer and Der in limbo, paramedics' lives (and Bailey's marriage) on the brink. Should be very interesting to watch unfold.

Writers to Continue Strike; Episode 11 to Air Next Year

CBS won a repeat-laden Thursday night ratings battle amid the ongoing writers strike, with Survivor: China rising to the top in total viewers and adults 18-49.

Both 9 p.m. heavyweights - Grey's Anatomy (which aired the Season 4 premiere, "A Change is Gonna Come") and CSI, were in repeats, as was NBC's The Office.

So it was Survivor: China (13.8 million, 4.5 rating/12 share in adults 18-49) that was the most-watched program of the night, according to Nielsen Media Research.

CBS therefore won 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., thanks to a repeat CSI (12.3 million, 3.4/8) as NBC's ER (8.6 million, 3.4/9) split 10 p.m. with Without a Trace (9.9, 2.5/7).

Writers on Strike

Meanwhile, it appears that the brief hope that the Writers Guild of America strike may be nearing its conclusion has been dashed for now, as the writers were both swift and vehement in rejecting the latest proposal from the studios.

As a result of the ongoing strike, numerous sources are reporting that Episode 11 of Season Four of Grey's Anatomy (the next new episode, "Crash Into Me, Part II" is #10) will not air until early next year, rather than in two weeks, December 13, its originally scheduled air date. We apologize for our reporting error.
