You don’t have to be a brain surgeon to following all the comings, goings, crossovers, new jobs and new deliveries happening both on and off screen at Grey's Anatomy.

But it would help.

Fortunately, Grey's Anatomy cast members Chandra Wilson and Sara Ramirez chatted with TV Guide and offered up a special diagnosis for this week's episode and beyond.

First up, Wilson’s Dr. Miranda Bailey will be headed to Los Angeles for sun and apparently some fun when she crosses over to Private Practice, ABC's sister show, this week.

“I’m being overprotective of a patient I have that of course their care has to happen in L.A. at St. Ambrose – because that’s the only place it can be in the world,” she said.

“So I’m heading over to Private Practice!”

“You know, Taye Diggs’ character is single now!” Sara Ramirez reminded her co-star, nodding to a recently teased smooch between Bailey and Diggs' Dr. Sam Bennett.

But Wilson won't bite. “I don’t share stories,” she insisted, chuckling.

Despite Bailey’s interlude in SoCal, the rest of Seattle Grace is about to feel a chill as the result of the merger with Mercy West, which will put some docs' jobs in jeopardy.

“Not everyone at Seattle Grace is safe,” hinted Sara Ramirez, and Wilson took it even further: “Next week is a jaw-dropper. It’s not going to work out for some people.”

Wilson will also be stepping behind the camera as the director of the seventh episode of Grey’s Anatomy's sixth season, airing toward the end of October (the plotline is apparently Patrick Dempsey-centric – “all Derek all the time,” she teases).

Ramirez says Wilson’s directorial style is far from iron-fisted.

We know filming for Grey's Anatomy is officially underway because Shonda Rhimes herself Tweeted as much. She posted this picture of the lovely Sara Ramirez to prove it!

Shonda also Twittered props to the show's Emmy nominees and said that when Meredith and Derek scenes begin filming, maybe she'll post a picture of it for us! Woo hoo!

Here's the latest on rumors involving Callie Torres - and rumors that Sara Ramirez may be leaving the show (it doesn't look like that's true) - from TV Guide's Matt Mitovich ...

Q: I heard a rumor that Sara Ramirez has been offered a new TV show in which she will star. While I question the reliability of the source, I hope this is true. She is a talented actress who does not get any recognition or decent writing for her Grey's Anatomy character.

A: "Que sera, Sara?" you ask? Ramirez's rep says, "We haven't heard that rumor" about her being courted for a series of her own. In the meantime, I'm told that Grey's Anatomy's bi-curious Callie Torres will pick up where she and Erica left off, this time with the pediatric surgeon, Arizona, being played by Jessica Capshaw beginning January 8. But contrary to what you may have heard, these two won't start steaming up until Capshaw's third (of at least several) episodes.

There has been a lot of speculation in the last couple of weeks that Sara Ramirez (Dr. Callie Torres) will be leaving the cast of Grey's Anatomy later this season.

We have not reported these rumors to you so far because they are only that - speculation. But given the sheer amount of attention they're generating, we're going to now. Nothing you read below is confirmed, but some of the rumors and theories are:

• That Sara Ramirez will be departing Grey's Anatomy after episode 15 or 16. This past week's episode, "These Ties That Bind," was the eighth of Season 5.
• That Brooke Smith is not the only one being let go from the show, and given her relationship with Smith's character, Erica Hahn, Sara Ramirez is next.
• That Sara might be headed back to Broadway, where she was a star.
• That Melissa George's character Sadie was brought in (or possibly re-written after Smith's departure) for Eric Dane's character, Mark Sloan, because the ABC executives wanted a different, fairly big-name actress for his love interest.

Again, this is pure conjecture and nothing more. But What do you think of these Grey's Anatomy rumors - and have you heard any others? Share with us ...

The nominations for the 2008 ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Awards are in, and Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez (Callie Torres) has been given a nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Television Series!

Sara's competition in the category include:

• Valerie Cruz (The Dresden Files)
• Roselyn Sanchez (Without A Trace)
• Cote de Pablo (NCIS)

Sara Ramirez was also nominated last year in the category of Outstanding Actress – Television Series, Mini-Series, or TV Movie.

The ALMA Awards have rearranged categories slightly this year. In '07, Sara represented Grey's Anatomy and went up against the likes of America Ferrera (the winner, for Ugly Betty), Constance Marie (George Lopez) and Alexa Vega (Walkout).

We're happy to see Sara Ramirez get recognized - and with the exciting Callie and Erica developments in Season 5 of Grey's Anatomy, perhaps a Golden Globe or Emmy Award nomination isn't out of the question for next year at this time!

This spring, Grey's Anatomy introduced a lesbian story line with a romance between the confident, sexually voracious Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and the professionally ambitious yet personally restrained Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith).

The plot line, culminating in the season finale, "Freedom," offered both the drama Grey's Anatomy has become known for and a groundbreaking truthfulness network television has rarely achieved when it comes to lesbian relationships.

For Callie and Erica, the season ended with a passionate kiss...

With that kiss, Callie and Erica became the only regular lesbian or bi-sexual female characters currently on network television.

This is also the first time that two regular stars on a network show have begun a lesbian romance, as opposed to one becoming involved with a new lesbian character introduced expressly for that relationship.

To prepare for the story line, which will continue next season, the Grey's Anatomy producers consulted with GLAAD, which worked with the series on a previous story line about a transgender character with breast cancer.

For Grey's Anatomy fans who began the season wondering if Dr. ­Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) was gay, last week's season finale offered an answer - she might just be, after Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) made her move.

The two-hour episode - which culminated with Callie planting a kiss on Erica outside of Seattle Grace - had people asking: For the love of The L Word, could EriCal eclipse MerDer as the Grey's Anatomy "It" couple?

Creator Shonda Rhimes tells Entertainment Weekly that we may not have seen the last of this budding (and much buzzed-about) Seattle Grace romance.

Is there a future for Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Erica (Brooke Smith)?

"Callie and Erica have an undeniable chemistry," says Shonda Rhimes.

"Watching the story unfold is something the writers are looking forward to. I wanted to illuminate their relationship in the same way we try to do all relationships on the show - ­funny, sweet, honest, and a little bit dirty."

As for Brooke Smith, she doesn't think Dr. Hahn was coming out of the closet in the last few weeks leading up to the finale.

It surely will be tempting for Sara (pronounced Sah-rah) Ramirez to break into song this weekend while she's narrating Prokofiev's "Peter & the Wolf" in performances by the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra.

"I can see myself turning around and saying, 'Can I get a Frank Sinatra tune?'" says the Grey's Anatomy star with a contagious laugh.

"You're on the stage with (an orchestra), and it just blows you away. It's like you've got this powerhouse sound coming from behind you, and it's so cool," she continues. "So to be involved with it again in any way, shape or form is really exciting to me."

Sara Ramirez will be returning to her stage actress roots.

The idea of the TV series lead singing "I've Got the World on a String" with strings really isn't as strange as it may sound. Though most folks know her as the spirited (non-singing) Dr. Callie Torres on the ABC prime time medical drama, others know the Juilliard School graduate primarily for her stage work.

Ramirez's Tony Award-winning performance as the Lady of the Lake in "Spamalot" was her calling card. Theater devotees may also recall her debut in Paul Simon's "The Capeman," with a cast that included Marc Anthony and Rubén Blades.

She's particularly looking forward to working with the youth orchestra. Though she has sung challenging work by Stephen Sondheim opposite Patti LuPone in a 2002 Chicago concert, this will be the first time she has both narrated the Prokofiev family favorite and worked with a youth orchestra.

A former child performer herself, Sara Ramirez looks forward to collaborating with the youngsters. The 32-year-old actress moved from her native Mexico to San Diego after her parents' divorced while she was in grade school.

Her mother enrolled her in that city's School of Creative and Performing Arts, which she attended from fourth through 12th grades.

They may be having marital problems on the set, but... at least they're good friends off it! T.R. Knight (George) and Sara Ramirez (Callie) are seen in the photo below at the 23rd annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles, which took place October 21.

The event, attended by this pair of Grey's Anatomy cast members as well as other celebrities, set fundraising and attendance records, raising more than $3.9 million for AIDS Project Los Angeles and other AIDS service organizations.

Sara Ramirez didn't join the cast of Grey's Anatomy until Season Two and was not made a full-time cast member until the start of Season Three.

But Sara Ramirez's character of Dr. Callie Torres - recently promoted to Seattle Grace chief resident - sure is in the thick of things here in Season Four.

In fact, Calliope's turbulent love life has been getting a large part of the attention this season, thanks to a possible split from husband George O'Malley (T.R. Knight), who had an affair with his best friend Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl).

"Like all the characters on the show, I think Callie has her flaws, issues, hang-ups. We don't know all the ins-and-outs of why she truly was with George. I think there was a pure love there but I'm sure Callie has other issues behind clinging onto something that just isn't right," Ramirez told the Los Angeles Daily News.

While the role on Grey's Anatomy has made the Mexican-American hottie widely known to television audiences, the New York theater scene has been aware of Sara for some time now. In fact, Ramirez won the 2005 Tony Award for her performance as The Lady of the Lake in "Monty Python's Spamalot."

Sara Ramirez is certain she will return to the stage at some point.

"I consider New York and theater my home base, where I sort of grew up," she said. "I miss it and I hope they'll have me back whether it's a musical - it doesn't have to be on Broadway - or a play. I miss the theater, the whole symbiotic relationship between actor and audience and being on stage. The live factor."
