Patrick Dempsey, Wife Expecting Baby #2!

Patrick & Jillian DempseyBig news in the Grey's Anatomy community: Star Patrick Dempsey and his wife, Jillian Fink Dempsey, are expecting their second child, his publicist announced.

People confirms this exciting news on its website today. The couple already have a 4-year-old daughter, Tallulah Fyfe.

Dempsey, 40, met his future wife, a stylist, in 1994 when she he came into her salon for a haircut. They wed in 1999 at the actor's family's farmhouse in Maine.

Fink now has her own high-end cosmetics line. Dempsey was a teenage star who made a comeback as Reese Witherspoon's fiancé in the 2002 movie Sweet Home Alabama and has reached new heights as the heartthrob we all know as "Dr. McDreamy" on the hit ABC drama.

"I really love it now," Dempsey said of his career. "But I also have a life outside it with Jill and Tallulah. I am really thankful that it is all going well."

Congratulations!

Meredith Grey and Dr. McDreamy Share Embrace at Party

Well, the actors playing them do at least. Sorry for the tease.

But could this be some sort of Grey's Anatomy spoiler? Probably not, most likely just two co-workers and friends posing for a photgrapher.

Nevertheless, Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo are seen here at the Season Two DVD launch party. They seem almost as excited as we are for this season to begin on September 21.

Almost.

Season Two DVD Party Notes: Even More Patrick Dempsey Quotes and News

Ladies, you don't mind that this week has been filled with Patrick Dempsey news at The Insider, do you?

We didn't think so.

Everyone's hottest doctor was looking characteristically dashing when he turned out to promote Grey's Anatomy Season Two DVD this week. (It hits shelves a week from today, September 12). Of course, the handsome pseudo doctor did explain that he's a bit more mistake-prone in real life than his character

"Derek is a neurosurgeon," Dempsey said. "He's McDreamy. I don't think he's a real kind of guy, but that's OK."

His Most McDreamiestThe just seemed to insult his gender with that quote, although we suppose Dr. Sheperd does set the bar a bit high. Dempsey also shared a story of a recent plane flight when he was asked to help another passenger that suddenly became ill.

"There was a seizure, but I didn't get involved," he said. "People looked at me and it was like, 'Are you going to respond to this?'. I'm like, 'Certainly not, I'm not a surgeon'. People just expect I know how to do a craniotomy."

Hey, at least he can pronounce it. That's more than most of us can say.

Fortunately, there were no medical emergencies at Tuesday's DVD launch party. Dempsey was joined by co-stars Isaiah Washington, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens, Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh.

Patrick Dempsey, Revving up for Season Three, Takes Racing Break

Last week was busy for Patrick Dempsey. When he wasn't signing autographs on his cover picture of Entertainment Weekly, he was making numerous left turns around a race track.

The star was in at the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, over the weekend. For a promotional tour on behalf of Grey's Anatomy, Season Three? No way. This doctor was trading in his scrubs for racing gear.

Dempsey Gives an Interview

Not only did Dempsey competed in the Grand Am Cup, a race that lasts for 2 and a half hours and covers 200 miles, the actor's team finished 20th out of 60 cars. Not too shabby.

"It's a very fun, challenging track," Dempsey said."I love to race. It's humbling for me, it's challenging. I like the comradery. I love the people out here. It's something I've always loved watching as a kid."

While he obviously loves Grey's Anatomy and excited for the upcoming season, racing provides a welcome getaway sometimes.

"It's a great escape from Hollywood and the show."

So let us get this straight: Dempsey looks (Mc) dreamy in scrubs, a tuxedo ... and a racing jump suit? That's just not fair.

Patrick Dempsey, Grey's Anatomy Grace Cover of Entertainment Weekly

What other show would lead off coverage of Entertainment Weekly's Fall TV Preview? Come on now.

Beautiful McCover

With Patrick Dempsey on the cover and a feature article inside, detailing a few Grey's Anatomy spoilers, along with insight from the cast, this is a must-have for all fans. We'll review a few of the memorable points/quotes from the piece:

  • Early in the season three premiere (airing September 21!), the following exchange takes place after Alex questions Callie about her relationship with George:

''She's a resident,'' Dr, Bailey says. ''She outranks you. You don't ask her personal questions.'' It's a line that would sound perfectly reasonable on any other doctor drama - not here. After wrapping the scene, Chandra Wilson smiles and cracks, '''Not talking about our personal lives? At Seattle Grace? Come on.'

  • Dempsey on the dilemma Grey's encounters as it moves to Thursday nights:

''We're at a fork in the road. People are aware of what's happened to other shows [in their sophomore seasons] and what the traps can be. As long as we stay true to the essence of the first season, the show will have a strong place in history. Otherwise, we're just a flash in the pan."

  • Ellen Pompeo on realizing just how HUGE the show had become:

'When I got invited on Oprah I thought, Whoa, okay, this is big. I feel really lucky - all of us realize how difficult it is to get the stars to align.''

  • Writer Tony Phelan got a first-ear look at how dedicated followers of the show can be when he received a certain phone call after the season finale in May.

''Is this Tony Phelan? The Tony Phelan who writes Grey's Anatomy?'' Figuring it was someone from ABC calling to congratulate him on good ratings for the episode (which he and his wife, Joan Rater, had co-written with Rhimes), he said yes. Then the caller exclaimed, ''How could you kill Denny?'

Ah, yes, The Insider has received similar complaints. Fortunately for rabid and new fans alike, less than three weeks remain until answers to their most pressing Seattle Grace questions are answered.

Dempsey Wows Australian Audiences, Too

Patrick DempseyPatrick Dempsey is not simply hot in Hollywood, he's leaving quite the impression half a world away.

The man we have come to know as Derek "Dr. McDreamy" Shepherd in Grey's Anatomy is also a hit in Australia, where the country's best-selling newspaper, The Herald Sun, recently ran an interview with him.

It's staggering to think that, prior to landing the role of Dr. Shepherd, Dempsey's career appeared to have gone flat. He'd performed in a string of flops, including Crime & Punishment, There's No Fish Food in Heaven and Denial.

The actor, who felt like he was wallowing in mediocrity, says he kept telling himself: "I'm ugly, I'm no good, I'm a has-been."

Interestingly, as some fans may know, he auditioned for, but missed out on, the role on Fox' House M.D. Salvation for Dempsey came when he met Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, who offered him the chance to play the male lead in a drama that would focus on the intricate and often dysfunctional lives of a bunch of surgeons.

Dempsey's imagination was captured by Rhimes' promise that Grey's would dispense with the typical racial and gender stereotypes evident in many shows. After filming the pilot, however, the Grey's cast was left to wonder if the potential of the show would be realized.

Jillian Dempsey Will Serve as Consultant For Cosmetics Industry Giant

Patrick & Jillian DempseyAvon Products, Inc., has announced a collaboration with celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey, a beauty industry icon and the wife of Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey.

Jillian, whose client roster includes some of Hollywood's freshest faces, will take on an enterprise-wide consulting role as Global Creative Color Director for the company, working to refresh and revitalize Avon and its flagship color brand.

The alliance with Dempsey represents the first time Avon has partnered with an outside makeup artist in a role of this kind. The cosmetics giant will collaborate closely with her in a campaign to refresh its shade palettes, launch limited-edition seasonal color collections, as well as new product concepts, beginning in Spring 2007.

"Avon was the only beauty brand in my house when I was growing up. I've always known it was a global beauty leader. As a makeup artist, I am passionate about helping women recognize their own beauty, and so it's an honor to collaborate with Avon and embrace their philosophy that every woman can have great style," Jillian said.

Mrs. Dempsey is well known within the cosmetics industry as one of the most talented, influential artists in the field. Jillian's career has taken her around the world -- from Hollywood to London, Paris and Tokyo -- and she has worked as a key makeup artist in films, TV and in the music industry.

Her work has been featured throughout the pages of countless beauty and fashion magazines, including Allure, Elle, Marie Claire and Vanity Fair. She resides in Los Angeles and Maine along with Patrick and their young daughter, Talula.

More Ellen Pompeo & Patrick Dempsey

Back by popular demand -- and because we found and scanned an ad from a magazine in our office -- is another great picture of Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey from their photo shoot for a clothing retailer this summer.

As many Grey's Anatomy devotees probably know, New York & Company enlisted Ellen and Patrick to be the faces of its fall marketing campaign. Once we came across this ad today, we couldn't resist posting it. Click to see the enlarged version!

Win a Day at the Races with Dempsey

The Racing ManGrey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has another life away from the set of the hit ABC medical drama. He is part of the Hyper Sport racing team, at the wheel of the No. 54 New York & Company Mustang, and loving it.

"My wife got tired of me sitting on the couch on Sundays watching the Speed Channel and said, 'Get up and go do a Skip Barber racing program for three days,' That started the bug," he said.

Then, when Patrick was asked to do an ad campaign for New York & Company, alongside co-star Ellen Pompeo, things took off from there. The women's chic clothing company decided its logo would look great on Patrick's Ford Mustang, and a sponsorship was born.

"I really enjoy working with Ellen. She has a good energy, photographs well and we have great chemistry. I am glad I [decided to do the ad]," Patrick told ET. "It shows what a wonderful company New York & Company is to think outside the box to put their label and their belief into this race team."

Fans of Patrick can win a day (actually three days) at the races with the dreamy TV doctor by entering the New York & Company sweepstakes. The grand prize winner will be flown to Alton, Va., for the 2006 Grand Am Championship finale. The deadline to enter is September 4.

One of the benefits of his racing is the contrast with his work as an actor, and how it keeps his character, Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, fresh.

"It is a really great release for me. I come back appreciating my day job so much more. I find that I work harder and I am clear mentally going into it."

As for secrets from the third season of Grey's Anatomy, Dr. McDreamy isn't talking. His boss, after all, is Shonda Rhimes.

"A lot of questions that were unanswered last year are getting answered," he said cryptically.

He did share that the acclaimed Diahann Carroll will be guest starring.

"She looks amazing. She comes in with such an aura. I say this in a great way. She is a true diva. She brought [such] an elegance and a level of intensity that people were really excited she was there," Dempsey said.
