Justin Chambers Checks Into UCLA Psych Ward

Actor Justin Chambers, who plays Dr. Alex Karev on Grey's Anatomy, checked himself in to the psych ward at UCLA Medical Center this week.

A rep for Chambers, who has five children with wife Keisha, said he was "exhausted and suffers from a sleeping disorder" and "went in voluntarily to get help."

A Justin Chambers Photo

Justin Chambers' character remains one of Grey's Anatomy's best.

Interestingly, Chambers was in the same ward where Britney Spears is currently being treated for bipolar disorder, having been admitted early this morning.

Justin checked in Monday and left yesterday. Here's hoping he got the help he needs and is feeling better! We need him for those Izzie-Alex scenes...

Sandra Oh Not Optimistic Regarding Strike

Despite a new deal signed by the Director's Guild of America, Sandra Oh is playing down hopes that Grey's Anatomy's fourth season can be salvaged.

The Director's Guild made a peace pact with Hollywood's studios, leading many to speculate it could spark a resolution to the writers' strike - now three months old and counting - that has crippled the television season.

But the award-winning actress, at the Sundance Film Festival this year as a festival juror, remains more cautious than optimistic going forward.

"The longer we're out, the less chance we have of completing the season," the Canadian-born Sandra Oh told the Winnipeg Sun.

"I don't know the (DGA) deal. I don't necessarily think the DGA and the WGA have the same needs ... But everyone wants to go back to work. I was out on the line the other day and the writers are really, really suffering."

Super Sandra

Sadly, Sandra Oh doesn't expect to wave the strike goodbye soon.

Even if Hollywood's scribes resolve their walkout promptly, that doesn't mean labor peace is assured - the industry's actors could still strike themselves, over many of the same issues, when their own contract expires in June.

"The DGA membership is less than 5,000. There are over 150,000 Screen Actors Guild members," Sandra Oh said. "Their needs cannot be the same, especially in terms of new media. Actors live on residuals."

So while Oh and everyone else in L.A. waits for an end to the labor strife, she's just thrilled to focus on seeing - and supporting - The Sundance Film Festival's latest crop of independent fare. Who can blame her?

"Why not champion films that don't have a giant budget?" she said. "Do we need to support the next M:I-6? I'm not here for that."

Take that, Tom Cruise.

Ellen Pompeo, Chris Ivery at Chanel Event

Faced with the challenge of holding her own at a Chanel gala guaranteed to be packed with celebrities and supermodels, Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo rose to the occasion with a classic, Roaring Twenties-style ensemble.

At the couture house's black-and-white-themed "Night Of Diamonds" event - also attended by Christy Turlington and Helena Christensen - the popular TV surgical resident was certainly on top of her (glittering) game.

Ellen Pompeo dazzled in a beautiful satin top with an outsize bow detail and diamante encrusted paneled skirt. To complete The Great Gatsby-era look, Ellen's hair had been crimped and waved into a flattering flapper style...

Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery,

Typically, Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery didn't take themselves too seriously.

When asked, "How's married life?" the Grey's Anatomy star joked, "It sucks. It's terrible."

While her husband of two months, Chris Ivery, didn't provide any marital insight of his own, he seemed to be enjoying his lady's jokester ways.

Chris Ivery later cracked up as Ellen Pompeo continued to wax poetic about their newfound married life: "Our life is very difficult."

Happy Belated Birthday, Patrick Dempsey!

Yes, this news is a week old, but it can't be forgotten about. The amazing Patrick Dempsey celebrated his 42nd birthday on January 13.

Our staff has been shorthanded for the past week but is now back at full strength. Beginning tomorrow, we'll be back on top of all the latest news.

For now, we just wanted to join all Grey's Anatomy fans in wishing a belated happy birthday to the show's handsome leading man. Here's a hot photo ...

The Amazing Patrick Dempsey

Patrick Dempsey wows fans with his talent, looks and personality.

Here's wishing the father of three all the best. Thanks, Patrick Dempsey, for all you have brought to this great series as Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd.

Grey's Anatomy Stars Rule People's Choice Awards

It was a win-some, lose-some night for Grey's Anatomy on Tuesday, when the hit ABC hospital drama managed to win all three TV acting trophies at the People's Choice Awards, while the acclaimed show itself was shut out of any wins.

Handsome Patrick

The handsome Patrick Dempsey and newlywed Katherine Heigl took home the Male and Female TV Star awards, while their co-star, Chandra Wilson, beat out the competition to win the Scene Stealer trophy. However, it was another rival medical series, Fox's House, that brought home the award for TV Drama.

Congrats to Patrick, Katherine and Chandra, who are definitely the people's choice here at Grey's Anatomy Insider. More photos to come ...

Rocky Start to Honeymoon For Katherine Heigl

Katie and JoshTheir December 23 Park City, Utah wedding might have been "incredible and beautiful" as co-star and groomsman T.R. Knight put it, but Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley's Mexican honeymoon got off to a bit of a rough start.

The reason? Amid wedding chaos, the Grey's Anatomy star forgot her passport.

It happens to everyone. Alas, the happy couple could not fly directly to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, says a source, and instead, had to stop over in California first.

Things brightened considerably for Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley when the couple made South of the Border, however. Kelley enjoyed some tee time while Heigl soaked up the sun.

By Friday, the happy twosome was spotted poolside as Josh Kelley serenaded his new bride - and others - with some of the songs from his upcoming album.

Patrick Dempsey Happy with Character Development

Recently on Grey's Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey's Derek locked lips with Nurse Rose (Lauren Stamile). While this means more trouble for Derek and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) - who one of our readers points out has been together with him in only 18 of 71 episodes - Dempsey is actually happy about the development.

The hit medical series' leading man said in a recent interview that he is feeling more "encouraged" that someone new has come into to his character's life.

"It will certainly make the story lines more interesting and compelling," Dempsey told the New York Post. "Last season was boring to do. Enough is enough already. It's time for the writers to go back and take a look at things and find some new paths for some of these characters. It was too repetitive for me."

Having a Drink

That said, Patrick Dempsey admits that he is not necessarily very hopeful about what will happen between the on-again, off-again Derek and Meredith in the near future.

"You would think that [Derek and Meredith] would work through their difficulties and move forward. Meredith needs to get healthy. That's an interesting thing to explore with her character. Does he stand by her while she goes through that? Or do they work through their problems alone," Patrick Dempsey posed.

"[Grey's Anatomy creator / executive producer] Shonda Rhimes is very clear on what she wants to do but not clear on what the actors are going to do."

As of right now, production on Grey's Anatomy remains shut down as the WGA strike continues. Although Dempsey and the rest of the show's cast and crew are out or work, he is still riding high career-wise, with the success of his film Enchanted.

"I always knew that if it worked, it would be huge," Dempsey said. "But you take a risk with these things. It's been interesting because everyone likes this movie - men, kids, moms. The movie touches the child in everyone, while dispelling the whole idea that if you find that one right person you are going to live happily ever after."

People's 2007 Star of the Year will also appear in the upcoming romantic comedy Made of Honor, due to hit theaters in May 2008. Although his movie career seems to be taking off once more, Dempsey isn't about to leave Grey's Anatomy just yet.

"The opportunities that the cast is getting are certainly because of the show's huge success," he said. "As long as [Grey's Anatomy] continues, we will stay with it."

More Details of Katherine Heigl-Josh Kelley Wedding

More informations emerged regarding the wedding of Grey's Anatomy beauty Katherine Heigl and musician Josh Kelley. Here are a few more details of the big day:

  • Katherine and JoshAbout 80 friends and family attended the Heigl-Kelley wedding inside a white-draped tent and guests were given gift baskets of Christmas cookies as they arrived
  • Katherine Heigl wore a traditional white Oscar De La Renta gown
  • The couple wrote its own vows
  • Heigl's maid of honor was her older, adopted sister, Meg
  • Katherine's three bridesmaids wore cranberry red cocktail dresses, also by Oscar De La Renta
  • Josh Kelley had four groomsmen, all dressed head-to-toe in Tommy Hilfiger, including his younger brother Charles, who served as the best man, and Katherine's Grey's Anatomy co-star, T.R. Knight

Wanting to keep everything both simple and elegant, the bride and groom eschewed traditional readings and went straight to exchanging their vows, then the rings, which Katherine Heigl had custom designed for the blessed event.

T.R. wasn't the only Grey's cast member there to cheer Katherine on. Also joining their Emmy-winning co-star were Sandra Oh, Kate Walsh and Justin Chambers.

On Saturday, Katherine and her gal pals celebrated her last day of single-hood with an all-day trip to the spa, complete with gifts from Victoria's Secret and buckets of champagne from Moet & Chandon. Sounds like a great time all around!

Patrick Dempsey Named People Star of the Year

He missed out on Sexiest Man Alive (coming in second), but Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has been named "Star of the Year" by People magazine.

The 41-year-old actor received the top honors for having had a great year on and off screen. Patrick Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, graces the cover of the celebrity magazine's year-end issue.

"I'm just enjoying everything in life more than I ever have ... I'm trying to enjoy the moment while it's here and to be able to provide for my family so that I can step away and enjoy raising them away from all this," Patrick Dempsey told People.

Star of the Year 2007

Things weren't always easy for the Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey.

After appearing in several notable ‘80s films, including Loverboy and Can't Buy Me Love, he failed to land subsequent roles that would have furthered his career.

His marriage to his former manager, Rocky Parker, a woman 26 years older than him, also collapsed, driving him into what he called a period of severe depression.

"It was a very difficult time. I was insecure, felt I was no good," Patrick Dempsey said. "It took me two days to get psyched and it was very hard to stay positive. There were years when I wasn't working and people didn't care about me."

However, people certainly started caring about him again when he landed the role of Derek â€" a.k.a. McDreamy â€" on Grey's Anatomy. His personal life also received an enormous lift when he married Jillian Fink, a celebrity make-up artist, in 1999.

Apart from their twin boys, Darby and Sullivan, born this February, Patrick and Jillian Dempsey also have an older daughter Talula, who is 6.

Congratulations to Patrick on this well-earned honor!
