Engaged Kate Walsh: Living the Dream

Kate Walsh With Alex YoungUnlike her romantically challenged Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice character, Kate Walsh knows love when it finds her.

She and Alex Young got engaged in May after dating for just three months.

"We've been together since February," Kate Walsh, 39, told People at a poolside party for facialist Kate Somerville at the Beverly Wilshire hotel.

"I know. I'm literally living the dream. But you know when you know. I was not expecting it, so it's kind of amazing."

While Kate Walsh says she really loves "everything" about her fiancé, a production co-president at 20th Century Fox, she admits she's partial to his looks.

"He's pretty handsome," she said, adding with a giggle: "He's ridiculously handsome!"

It doesn't hurt that he's helping with wedding plans... in his own way:

"He's really great. He's there, but not in the way! He wants to contribute."

So, she's taken charge.

"You start getting into this and you don't want to be a cliché, but then suddenly you're like, 'I'm doing all this stuff!'"

Considering she's also preparing for her new series, Private Practice, which starts shooting in mid-July, her schedule must be packed.

"It's insane, yeah," she said. But she has a mantra that keeps her centered when it comes to wedding planning: "Delegate, delegate, delegate!"

To help her manage things, she and Alex Young are taking a quick vacation.

"We're going to a balmy island," she said. "This is my getaway, and as soon as I come back we just hit the ground running."

No wedding date is officially set for Kate, or Grey's Anatomy leading lady Ellen Pompeo and fiance Chris Ivery. Katherine Heigl, the third engaged cast member, plans to wed musician Josh Kelley right before Christmas. We're happy for all three of these terrific actresses.

Kate Walsh: Beautiful Bride in Training?

If, like us, you thought Kate Walsh looked great in a white Catherine Malandrino dress a few weeks ago, we'd have to agree.

If you thought the similar Jay Godfrey dress on the blue carpet at the Fantastic Four opening in London was also a hit, well, we would be in agreement there as well.

But the floor-length David Salomon gown the Private Practice star wore last week at the Women in Film Crystal and Lucy Awards sealed the deal for us.

The ex- Grey's Anatomy doctor looks so good in white, there's no doubt she'll make a beautiful bride when she walks down the aisle with Alex Young!

Walsh, Heigl Make Maxim Hot 100 List

The cast of Grey's Anatomy was well represented on the annual Maxim Hot 100 list, with Kate Walsh (#52) and Katherine Heigl (#14) being recognized as some of today's hottest stars.

The beautiful and candid Heigl has emerged as a talented, in-demand actress in the past year, winning accolades for her work on Grey's and starring in the upcoming movie Knocked Up. Walsh's star has also risen fast - she'll be starring on her own Grey's spin-off, Private Practice, come fall.

Congratulations to both these lovely, newly-engaged ladies - not just for the Hot 100 ranking, but for a job well done on Grey's Anatomy and beyond.

Sara Ramirez: I'll Miss Kate Walsh!

With Kate Walsh leaving to star in her own spinoff series, the set of Grey's Anatomy just won't be the same.

That's according to her Grey's co-star, Sara Ramirez.

Kate & Sara"I think she is amazing, and I am going to miss her to death," a smiling Ramirez said Wednesday at a party in New York City for People En Espanol's "50 Most Beautiful" issue.

"[Kate Walsh] is an enormously talented woman, and I think she is so much fun to watch," added Ramirez.

"I wish her continued success."

Walsh's popular character, Dr. Addison Montgomery, is leaving Seattle Grace for a new life in California as the basis for her new show, Private Practice.

Asked about Walsh's real-life plans to marry Alex Young, a production co-president at 20th Century Fox, Sara Ramirez says:

"They're lovely people. I hope it'll be a beautiful wedding."

Walsh, 39, announced her engagement last week.

As for her own career, the Spamalot Tony-winning Ramirez, who plays Dr. Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy, relishes the opportunity to be a role model for women.

"I'm very proud to be in this business at this particular time, and I just hope the opportunity will continue to come where I can show the world that there are other sizes, other personalities," she said.

"Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes."

Kate Walsh Announces Her Engagement!

She's Engaged!Friday, Private Practice was officially picked up.

But the new show's star, Grey's Anatomy actress Kate Walsh. now has even an even bigger reason to celebrate. In addition to getting her own prime-time TV series, she's getting married!

The 39-year-old actress confirmed Tuesday that she's engaged to boyfriend, Alex Young, a production co-president at 20th Century Fox.

Walsh flashed her Neil Lane Jubilee-cut diamond to People magazine and said that Young proposed last week in San Francisco.

So what makes her fiancé so special?

"Oh, everything," she gushed at the Entertainment Weekly upfront party at The Box in NYC. "He's the most amazing man I ever met."

Kate Walsh, who has kept her love life under wraps for much of the past year, was recently seen in public Young at an April 28 fund-raiser for Barack Obama in Los Angeles.

ABC this week formally announced that Walsh will star in her own Grey's Anatomy spinoff, playing Dr. Addison Montgomery in Private Practice.

The show will air Wednesdays this fall and co-star Taye Diggs, Tim Daly, Amy Brennemann and others.

Congratulations, Kate! Walsh's engagement is the third of the Grey's Anatomy world in the past year, following co-stars Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl.

Kate Walsh to Officially Enter Her Own Private Practice Next Fall

Addison MontgomerySpin-offs don't always work, and the May 3 debut wasn't perfect. But in this case, ABC liked what it saw enough to take a shot.

The network is hoping that Kate Walsh will serve as its secret weapon next fall, and officially chose to pick up the Walsh-led Grey's Anatomy spin-off, currently entitled Private Practice, for next season.

In addition to Walsh's character, Addison Montgomery, the new show stars Taye Diggs, Tim Daly, Paul Adelstein, Chris Lowell, Merrin Dungey and Amy Brenneman.

While this certainly simplifies the race for a chief at Seattle Grace (not to mention a number of love lives), many Grey's fans would rather see Addison continue her ongoing Anatomy lesson with Dr. Alex Karev.

Then again, according to our exclusive poll, at least 50 percent of respondents either liked or loved what they saw of the spin-off as it debuted as part of "The Other Side of This Life."

Congratulations to Kate. We'll miss you on Grey's Anatomy, but we'll be watching your new venture and wishing you the best!

Ellen DeGeneres Hosts Kate Walsh, Calls ABC President About Spinoff

Looks like Dr. Addison Montgomery won't have to deal with non-commital men (or Meredith Grey's whining) much longer.

Kate Walsh's controversial Grey's Anatomy spinoff's future was all but confirmed yesterday, thanks to an unexpected investigator.

In-your-face interrogation tactics by Ellen Degeneres, who hosted Walsh on her talk show, helped shed light on the outlook for Private Practice.

Not content with waiting for next week's announcement of ABC's fall lineup, Ellen made a surprise phone call to ABC President Steve McPherson during a taping of her show yesterday, and out asked flat-out if Kate Walsh's much-discussed project will be officially green-lit for a full season.

A visibly embarassed Walsh watched in subdued horror.

Walsh and DeGeneres

The ABC honcho strung her along for a bit, quipping that Walsh "hasn't worked out very well on the air for us," then he let it slip that he "thinks she's in pretty good shape."

We don't think he was talking about her physical fitness, either. This is good news for Kate, whose spinoff was previewed last week in "The Other Side of This Life," even if the experience was a tad awkward.
