Grey's Anatomy Stars Film GLAAD PSAs

T.R., Sara and KateA trio of talented actors from the Grey's Anatomy family are featured in a new ad campaign preaching tolerance for gays and lesbians.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) on Tuesday released 25 new public service ads that it will encourage TV networks to air.

The ads feature celebrities talking about either the power of anti-gay words or the importance of accepting a gay or lesbian family member.

T.R. Knight, Sara Ramirez of Grey's Anatomy and Kate Walsh (formerly of Grey's Anatomy and now the star of Private Practice) all made their own ads.

Alexandra Billings, a transgender actress who appeared in one episode of the hit ABC medical drama, also participated in the GLAAD ad campaign.

Former star Isaiah Washington, who is filming Bionic Woman after not being offered a contract to return to Grey's Anatomy, was not included, although the actor filmed a separate PSA on behalf of GLAAD that aired on ABC earlier this year.

GLAAD did not specifically seek out Grey's Anatomy stars, Damon Romine, the organization's entertainment media director, said.

Private Practice on Cover of TV Guide

Private Practice on TV Guide Cover"Are you guys talking about me?" asks Kate Walsh, the faux fire flashing in her languid, blue-green eyes.

"'Cause I don't trust a-one of you!"

On a recent Sunday evening, the actress, who shares the sassy style of her TV alter ego, Dr. Addison Montgomery, is playing host to a large table of actors.

This is the first sit-down dinner with the cast of her Grey's Anatomy spin-off.

But, as TV Guide reports, the group already seems like a family even if they've only a week of shooting.

Kate Walsh is then shot down about the topic of discussion.

"Um, no, you egomaniac," says her old friend and fellow cast member, Paul Adelstein.

"But I gotta tell you, that dress you've got on is very good for the boobs!"

That could easily be a quip from Alex Karev. But Shonda Rhimes, the executive producer of both shows, has been discussing a "lighter, more comedic tone" for Private Practice, so it surely fits the spin-off as well.

Patience Pays Off For Kate Walsh

Justin Chambers, Kate WalshAll Kate Walsh needed was a little bit of patience.

She had an inkling that's what it would take for her strong, flawed character on Grey's Anatomy, Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd, to click with the show's audience.

Her role as the estranged spouse of Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), although initially intended to be short-term, took shape the longer she was on screen.

Initially Addison, a neo-natal surgeon, was hated by fans who saw her as standing between Meredith and McDreamy and true happiness.

But as Addison's story lines evolved, she became one of Grey's Anatomy's most beloved characters.

Not a bad effort.

"They started off writing her like the wicked witch from the east all in black coming in to clean up. And then they just gradually made her more and more human and took off the scales one by one," Kate Walsh said.

"They do this with everybody in the show. All the characters have a work persona and a personal persona. I think that's just very real, and that it is also very natural that some people would reveal theirs more than others, like the interns that are working 400 hours a week."

The public reaction to Addison has changed from anger over McDreamy to joy at seeing her in the arms of Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan (Eric Dane). The character is so popular, producers gave her a spin-off series.

Walsh left at the end of Season 3 to begin Private Practice, which viewers have already had a taste of in a previous episode of Grey's Anatomy.

The series is set in L.A. and also stars Taye Diggs and Tim Daly.

Kate Walsh Talks Private Practice

With a wedding to plan and her new Grey's Anatomy spin-off, Kate Walsh has a lot on her plate. Us Weekly caught up with Walsh and chatted with her about departing Seattle Grace for a new, different and Private Practice.

Kate Walsh is Outta Here!Us: Was it difficult to leave Grey's Anatomy?
Kate Walsh: It was. But at the same time, it's such an amazing opportunity. I definitely miss my pals, but I see them socially. And I'm so excited that Grey's Anatomy got nominated for an Emmy again this year... it's just amazing. But it felt like a natural time for Addison to move on. What else could she do at Seattle Grace, really?

Us: Are you still in touch with Grey's Anatomy cast members?
Kate Walsh: I just saw them. Sara Ramirez, T.R. Knight, Katherine Heigl and Justin Chambers. I had a nice little drink the other night to celebrate the Emmy nominations. It was great to see them.

Us: Any chance we'll see their characters on Private Practice?
Kate Walsh: I don't know. We haven't had any indication of that. I'm sure they'll do some kind of crossover at some point and have somebody visit. Right now, it's so new it's all about getting the show on the air and established, and getting people invested in these new characters.
