New Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice Crossover to Feature Kate Walsh, Eric Dane and Leven Rambin

Get ready for Addison's return ... again!

Private Practice star Kate Walsh is heading back to Grey’s Anatomy in early January to play a key role in a top-secret crossover involving Addison, Mark, and guest star Leven Rambin.

The situation as we know it is as follows:

In the Grey’s Anatomy half of the crossover, Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) summons Addison to Seattle Grace to perform surgery on Rambin's character, who was announced last week.

The storyline spills into Private Practice when, according to creator Shonda Rhimes, “complications arise and Mark ends up taking [her] back down to L.A. for more surgery.”

As for Mark’s connection to this new crossover character?

That remains to be seen. As does whether sparks fly between lovers-turned-friends Addison and Mark, and what impact this new crisis has, if any, on the future of Mark and Lexie.

Answers to all those questions will likely be revealed, or at least hinted at, in future spoilers.

For now, it's up to us to debate them right here. What do you think happens, and are you excited for the crossover? Sound off on this Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice news below!

Kate Walsh Formally Files For Divorce

Kate Walsh's marriage was falling apart even sooner than thought.

Not even two weeks after her husband filed for divorce (the two married in Fall 2007), the Private Practice actress has submitted her own paperwork asking for a permanent split from 20th Century Fox executive Alex Young - and cites an alternate date.

Both parties cite irreconcilable differences as the reason their 15-month marriage wound down so soon, but while Young's filing listed their date of separation as November 22, Kate Walsh's counter-filing has the break coming five days earlier.

Not in question is the fact that the duo tied the knot September 1, 2007, in front of more than 100 guests, and a number of Walsh's former Grey's Anatomy cast members.

Did Co-Star Contribute to Kate Walsh Divorce Drama?

Take this with a grain (or even a boulder) of salt, given that it comes from celeb gossip magazine Star, but a new rumor suggests that Kate Walsh's connection with her Private Practice co-star, David Sutcliffe (as SWAT officer Kevin Nelson, below), may have contributed to her impending divorce from husband Alex Young, which we reported last week.

Follow the link above for the full report. Here's hoping Kate is handling the split okay, regardless of its cause, and we look forward to seeing her Grey's Anatomy crossover episode(s) this Spring!

Kate Walsh and Alex Young Separate, Will Divorce

Here's a sad piece of Grey's Anatomy news we hoped we'd never have to report.

According to court papers filed on November 22, Alex Young has petitioned for a divorce, citing irreconcilable differences with former Grey's Anatomy star Kate Walsh.

"The couple remain on friendly terms and sincerely hope the media will respect their privacy during this difficult time," the couple's reps said in a statement Thursday.

Walsh, who went on to star in the spinoff Private Practice after becoming an integral part of the Grey's Anatomy cast in seasons 2-3, wed Young – a production co-president at 20th Century Fox – on September 1, 2007, in the town of Ojai, north of Los Angeles.

In October 2007, Kate Walsh talked about the pair's whirlwind relationship, telling Ellen DeGeneres, "There was this kind of funny moment, after we were like we're married and all of the hoopla was over and we were like, 'What do we do now?'"

The two married after just a few months of dating.

Walsh's former Grey's Anatomy cast members, including Katherine Heigl and husband Josh Kelley, T.R. Knight, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Justin Chambers and wife Keisha, and Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes, were all in attendance at the nuptials.

Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice Crossover Episode(s) Planned

TV Guide reports this morning that Grey's Anatomy and its spin-off, Private Practice, will be embarking on a multi-episode crossover story for February sweeps.

Though at this very early stage the number of episodes and the sum total of actors involved has yet to be nailed down, it can at least be confirmed that Kate Walsh's character, Dr. Addison Montgomery will again be walking the halls of Seattle Grace.

Addison returned for one episode late in Season Four after leaving the Grey's Anatomy cast for the sunny skies of L.A. and Private Practice after Season Three.

What brings Addison (Kate Walsh) back to Seattle this time?

Who from Seattle Grace might show their face at Oceanside Wellness? Walsh personally cast her vote for Mark Sloan, saying, "It'd be fun to have him cause some trouble!"

That said, the actual list of involved cast members from each show, besides Walsh, is unconfirmed. Who would you like to see - and under what premise?

Kate Walsh May Return Again This Season

Kate Walsh has a big job ahead for fall. First and foremost, the actress has to help with the relaunch Private Practice, the much-touted but somewhat disappointing spinoff of Grey's Anatomy about a beach-based group of randy L.A. doctors.

But even though her character, Dr. Addison Montgomery, is starting to settle in at the Oceanside Wellness Center (David Sutcliffe guest stars as her boy toy!) she may take another trip back to Seattle Grace sometime this year.

The creator and executive producer of both shows, Shonda Rhimes, sort of hinted at this in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"I don't know if it's going to work with the story, and we don't want her to come back for a visit if it doesn't feel important, something only Addison can do," says Rhimes, wary of it being seen as a stunt. "But the idea is on the table."

This wouldn't be the first return of Addison; the redhead showed up in a Season Four episode of Grey's Anatomy last spring with Private Practice on hiatus.

Kate Walsh: Lots of Drama and Sex on Private Practice

This is not Grey's Anatomy news, but here's a little info on its spin-off, which you may know is preparing to kick off its second season.

Get ready to see former Seattle Grace surgeon Addison Montgomery’s wilder side when Private Practice returns October 1. So says Kate Walsh.

“There are some good lovers happening,” Kate Walsh told People magazine Saturday in L.A. “There’s a lot of action in L.A. it turns out!”

Walsh, whose character was no stranger to love triangles on Grey’s Anatomy, gets to be the center of attention this time as Dr. Pete Wilder (Tim Daly) and hunky SWAT officer Kevin Nelson (David Sutcliffe) vie for her heart.

It's exciting stuff. But will Kate Walsh let her husband of about a year, Alex Young, watch those steamy scenes? That she's not so sure about.

“I don’t know. He’ll probably watch when I’m not home,” she says. But she promises not all the action will be between the sheets.

“I think you’re going to see some conflict within the practice itself too, and a lot more surgery, so it’s just very exciting,” she says.

“The scripts this season are so good, there’s a lot of action, it’s a lot of drama ...” And yes, of course, “a lot of sex!”

Looks like the planned Seattle Grace love-fest has company!

Love it or Hate it: Kate Walsh Fashion

Kate Walsh, who recently talked about her Private Practice character's new love life, added an extra dose of glamour to the red carpet Monday night during the Season 2 premiere of AMC's hit Mad Men at Hollywood's Egyptian Theatre.

The former Grey's Anatomy star is always a stunner. But what about her fashion sense? Do you like Kate's clothing choice in the photo below?

Would You Want Addison Back Full-Time?

Several TV sites and message boards have broached the (hypothetical) topic of Shonda Rhimes and the producers of Grey's Anatomy bringing back Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) as permanent fixture at Seattle Grace Hospital again.

One theory behind such a move is that the spin-off, Private Practice, isn't called "Addison's Practice," and that she may actually be better suited to Seattle Grace. Another theory is that Private Practice is destined to go in the tank.

If Private Practice were to go under, we can't see why they wouldn't want Addison back on Grey's Anatomy, but seeing as Private Practice was doing fairly well ratings-wise (what you may think of it personally is another matter), it's unlikely.

She is So Back!

Many fans believe Addison's IQ dropped in half the minute she signed on at the Oceanside Wellness Center and loved her Grey's Anatomy cameo this spring. But Private Practice still had some success in its first year, at least on paper.

One unanswered question is whether it can recover from lost momentum after a terribly long hiatus. Not only did Private Practice not return from the writers' strike in spring, not a single repeat aired during or since. What does the future hold?
