Eric Dane to Star in Wedding Wars

The Insider has learned, thanks to a reader who was kind enough to inform us, that Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane will be appearing in Wedding Wars, a comedy about gay marriage - with a twist.

The A&E original film debuts December 11, starring Dane, John Stamos, Bonnie Somerville, James Brolin and others. If you’re interested in obtaining tickets for a special red carpet screening of the film and the VIP party, you can buy them for just $40 through the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the organization sponsoring the event.

Follow the above link to GLAAD's official site to learn more. It's for a good cause, and looks like a funny movie, too. We look forward to seeing McSteamy in a slightly different role than we're used to!

Eric Dane, Kate Walsh Grace TV Guide

Eric & Kate“Do you want my pickle?”

That's the question posed by Eric Dane, a.k.a. Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan, a plastic surgeon known for his strategically placed towel, and one who's been heating up the halls of Seattle Grace on the new season of Grey's Anatomy.

In this week's TV Guide, Dane is actually waving a cucumber at Kate Walsh, who shares the magazine's cover with him, and who plays the woman he lusts after, Addison Montgomery. In response to his pickle inquiry, Walsh shoots him a sour look. Mark lets his pickle fall limply back into his lunch sack.

Dane, 34, walks from the set, strokes the “scraggly old beard” he grew for the role, and grins.

“This,” he declares, “is some of the greatest writing on television. How often can you offer somebody your pickle and actually have it mean the dill pickle that came with your deli sandwich?”

The return of Mark, the hard-to-resist hottie who broke up Addison and Derek's marriage, has added yet another twist to the soapy surgical show.

“It means Addison gets to have some sex, which is awesome!” says creator Shonda Rhimes. “It also allows her to confront her past, which will be interesting to watch. Mark, the original bad boy, is struggling with his own demons. He brings a healthy serving of mystery and potential conflict to Seattle Grace.”

Not to mention a heaping helping of rumpled bedsheets. McSteamy has already done the McNasty with Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and seems intent on getting Meredith out of her scrubs.

“Very often people have sex with other people when the people they love aren't available,” says executive producer Betsy Beers. “And as Eric has said about his character, he's a guy who doesn't like to sleep alone.”

Hey, no one ever called it Grey's Monogamy.

Paging Dr. Mark Sloan... Both of Them!

Is Eric Dane's character on Grey's Anatomy, Dr. Mark Sloan, a tribute to another famous TV doctor from not so long ago?

No, it's not, according to ABC. Just a funny coincidence. But Dr. Mark Sloan was also the name of Dick Van Dyke's character on Diagnosis: Murder, the popular CBS series that ran from 1993-2001. Just for fun, here's a Mark Sloan/Mark Sloan comparison:

Funny. No offense to Dick, a fine actor and all-around good guy (one who looks pretty good for 80, no less), but we'll take the younger, McSteamy Mark Sloan, thank you very much!

Eric Dane On Romance, Cooking, Abs, Etc.Paging Patrick Dempsey: The competition for sexiest doc alive is getting a little... how should we put this... McSteamy!

A one-time construction worker, Eric Dane has joined the terrific cast of Grey's Anatomy as plastic surgeon Mark Sloan. Earlier today, we showed you Kate Walsh's thoughts on the show's newest star. Now, it's the 33-year-old Dane's turn to talk about himself and his Steamy character.

Eric took a break from the OR -- and revealing shower scenes -- to give fans his prescriptions for love, home cooking and washboard abs. Here's what he had to say to People magazine:

Q: Okay, McDreamy vs. McSteamy -- who wins a hotness contest?
A: I don't feel any competition with Patrick. But he keeps asking me when my calendar is coming out.

Q: Besides the six-pack abs, how are you similar to McSteamy?
A: We both shower daily! There are a lot of things in common, but just so your mind doesn't go in the wrong direction, it's not the infidelity and deceitful, backstabbing side of Mark Sloan.

Q: How do you maintain those abs?
A: Weightlifting -- it gets the aggression out. No yoga! I'm competitive and you can't score points in yoga.

Q: Unlike McSteamy and Addison, you seem very grounded with your wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart.
A: Life with her has been wonderful. On a whim, we ran to Vegas and got married (in October 2004). We'd been together nine months and we just knew.

Q: What's your ideal Sunday?
A: Sleep in - for me, that’s about 9:15 -- make coffee, quiet my head, make an omelette for my girl and play music. I make a hell of an omelette. And I make great chicken soup too!

Eric Dane Makes All the Right Moves

His Grey's Anatomy character may be emotionally destructive, a tad arrogant, and trying to woo his former best friend's ex-wife, but Eric Dane has it more together in real life.

The actor, better known to us as Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan, makes all the right moves on wife Rebecca Gayheart Thursday while attending an Esquire magazine event in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Eric Dane Graces New TV Guide Cover

Eric Dane in TV GuideThe weather's getting cooler, but the newest TV Guide, which features Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane on its cover, is steaming up.

Dane is part of the magazine's "Hot List," in which 25 sensations of the coming season are profiled. Here's what TV Guide has to say about Dr. Mark Sloan, a.k.a. McSteamy:

HEAT SOURCE: Look no further than this season's second episode, in which Eric Dane (a.k.a. McSteamy, or Dr. Mark Sloan) emerges from Addison's hotel bathroom in a cloud of steam. And not much else.

"I had a towel on," said the real-life husband of actress and Vanished star Rebecca Gayheart. "We also had to use double-stick tape." Ouch!

WHERE YOU'VE SEEN HIM:
Although he became a water cooler obsession after hitting on Meredith and getting punched out by Derek last season, Dane is a familiar face on the big and small screen. He appeared in the medical drama Gideon's Crossing, spent two seasons on Charmed, and played Multiple Man in last summer's blockbuster X-Men: The Last Stand.

WHO HIS CHARACTER WILL ANNOY MOST: Conventional wisdom says it's gotta be McDreamy, right? If last Thursday's "What I Am" is any indication, don't be so certain.

"I couldn't answer," Dane jokes, "not without having to kill you."

Spoken like a true, full-time Grey's Anatomy cast member, which he now is. We all know Shonda Rhimes' penchant for secrecy.

ON GETTING SUCKER PUNCHED: "I don't think Mark has a glass jaw by any stretch, but he certainly deserved what Derek gave him," Dane said. "What he did with Addison doesn't make him the best friend, but there is a set of circumstances that perhaps don't make the affair okay, but in some way validate everyone's actions."

So how did Mark suddenly appear in Addison's hotel room?

"I think Addison called and he came. New York to Seattle is not too far to go for a woman like that. Mark is always a phone call away," he said.

Besides being a little too available, Dane is adamant that Mark is not a sociopath.

"But he doesn't have too much of a filter. When he sees what he wants, he goes after it. Mark Sloan is misunderstood. He is more apt to give a burn victim a new face than augment someone's breasts. He just doesn't like to sleep alone. And personally, I can't blame him."

Shirts Scarce On Grey's Anatomy Set

Sure, it features complex characters, award-winning writing and some of the most interesting music you'll ever hear on a TV series. But Grey's Anatomy isn't shy about flaunting its sex appeal... mostly to its female viewers.

Oh yes. You may recall that last week's episode, "Sometimes a Fantasy," featured not one, not two, but three shirtless hunks: Derek (a.k.a. McDreamy, played by Patrick Dempsey), Finn (a.k.a. McVet, Chris O'Donnell) and newcomer Mark (a.k.a. McSteamy, Eric Dane).

While the latter was shown in a scene with Addison that actually took place in the Grey's Anatomy world, Derek and Finn appeared in a dream sequence... together. In bed. We can only imagine some of the conversations that went on during the filming of Meredith's implausible fantasy. Hopefully the Season 3 DVD will contain some out takes!

Eric Dane On The Ellen Show Tomorrow

Fans eager to know more about the newest Grey's Anatomy cast member, Eric Dane, can get their wish tomorrow. The Insider has learned that the heart throb will be appearing on The Ellen Show at 11 a.m. Eastern.

Eric Dane and his wife, Rebecca GayheartThe actor, like his character, Dr. Mark Sloan (a.k.a. McSteamy), is still shrouded in mystery. For all the buzz he's created and impact he's had on Grey's Anatomy, Mark has had very little screen time thus far.

We're looking forward to finding out more about him, though we're guessing he won't dish too much about his forthcoming Seattle Grace dealings. Creator Shonda Rhimes is a bit secretive, as we know.

Dane is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, who fans may remember from Noxzema commercials, a stint on Beverly Hills: 90210 and other roles. We found picture of the couple taken last weekend at the benefit for the Rape Treatment Center of Santa Monica.

Eric Dane Now a Full-Time Cast Member

McSteamy is staying put.

Eric Dane, who made his return to Grey's Anatomy in the waning moments of last Thursday's episode, has joined the cast of the hit medical drama as a regular, MSNBC confirms.

Dane plays plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Sloan, a.k.a. "McSteamy," a role he originated in a guest appearance last season, stole the show last week, and is already a fan favorite in spite of his limited exposure.

Grey's Anatomy marks Dane's second co-starring stint as a hot young doctor on an ABC medical drama. Several years ago, he played Dr. Wyatt Cooper on the network's Gideon's Crossing.

Eric Dane (Mark Sloan) and Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh)

Suffice it to say, we're glad he's sticking around Seattle and are eager to find out what happens between Mark and Addison Shepherd (above).

Get Ready For More McSteamy

Eric Dane"Well. This is awkward!"

ABC cleverly left Eric Dane off the opening credits for Thursday night's episode, "I Am a Tree," but the guest star definitely left a huge impression once again -- despite speaking only the one line above.

Reprising his role as plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Sloan, Dane made a surprise appearance at the end of the episode, when he was caught wearing nothing but a towel and a smile in the hotel room of Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh) -- immediately after soon-to-be ex-husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey) came clean about his own affair.

So how does Dane, whose character became known as "McSteamy" last season -- a play on Dempsey's "McDreamy" -- stay in shape for those towel scenes?

"I go to the gym four times a week. When I am 60, I want to feel like I am 40. I lift weights and I have a really good trainer," he tells EW. "I eat whatever I get my hands on. You could bottle my metabolism and we would all be billionaires. I miss a meal, I lose five pounds."

Eric Dane, a.k.a. Dr. Mark Dane, 34, was most recently seen in this summer's blockbuster X-Men: The Last Stand.

His extensive TV work includes a recurring role on Charmed, Vegas, the made-for-TV movie Helter Skelter, and as the lead on Gideon's Crossing.

In her blog, the episode's writer, Krista Vernoff, said eloquently, "I love me my McSteamy." She's not the only one -- as evidenced by our Round Table discussion and our latest poll.

We're looking forward to seeing how long Dr. Sloan sticks around Seattle Grace, and what his future with Addison holds.
