Ellen Pompeo, Boyfriend Hit the Town

While we're on a roll with "Out & About" cast pictures, here's a shot of Ellen Pompeo and her boyfriend, music producer Chris Ivery, at the UCLA Medical Center's Millennium Ball.

Ellen Pompeo & Chris Ivery

While her Grey's Anatomy character, Meredith Grey, is going out of her way to date both Derek and Finn, Ellen seems perfectly content to be in the company of one lucky guy.

Well, the actors playing them do at least. Sorry for the tease.

But could this be some sort of Grey's Anatomy spoiler? Probably not, most likely just two co-workers and friends posing for a photgrapher.

Nevertheless, Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo are seen here at the Season Two DVD launch party. They seem almost as excited as we are for this season to begin on September 21.

Almost.

Interns' Emmy Fashion Breakdown

As three female interns on Grey's Anatomy, Meredith, Izzie and Cristina are very tight knit, despite obvious personality differences. Here's a look at the trio of actresses to play them -- Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl and Sandra Oh -- who were all on hand at last night's Emmy Awards. They all look, and are, terrific, as far as the Insider is concerned. But whose outfit is your favorite? Click to enlarge!

More Ellen Pompeo & Patrick Dempsey

Back by popular demand -- and because we found and scanned an ad from a magazine in our office -- is another great picture of Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey from their photo shoot for a clothing retailer this summer.

As many Grey's Anatomy devotees probably know, New York & Company enlisted Ellen and Patrick to be the faces of its fall marketing campaign. Once we came across this ad today, we couldn't resist posting it. Click to see the enlarged version!

Ellen & Patrick: Certainly No Scrubs

As we wrote about back in early June, Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey have ditched the scrubs and donned some snazzier dubs as the face of New York & Company's fall clothing line.

The pictures not only model the fall line for the company, they showcase the steamy on-screen chemistry between these two stars, better known to viewers as Meredith Grey and Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd.

Patrick Dempsey & Ellen PompeoYou can check out a video clip of TV's hottest couple (or are they a couple -- we'll have to wait until Season 3 to find out) out of the hospital and on set for their photo shoot in East Hampton, N.Y. Special thanks to the fan in our Grey's Anatomy forum who directed our attention to the video!

Ellen's Tumultuous Monte Carlo Adenture

Ellen PompeoThe New York Post reports that Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo is having a tough go of it these days. While she appeared, along with her fellow cast members, at the Monte Carlo TV Festival last week, the newspaper claims that Pompeo did not participate in any interviews with them.

"It was at the request of broadcasters that she interview alone because she is the star of the show. But I was not there," said Pompeo's representative, Jennifer Allen.

The actress also had a fight with her boyfriend, Chris Ivery, with whom things have reportedly been rocky lately. A witness said the couple was being driven to the Fairmont Hotel when Ellen abruptly exited a car and ran down the street. When the concerned driver asked her to get back in the car with her husband, Pompeo retorted "He is not my husband!"

It has been speculated that Pompeo is reluctant to marry the music producer in part because of his criminal past. While we can't say what's true here and what isn't, we're hopeful everything gets straightened out.

Dempsey, Pompeo Tabbed For Clothing Company's Fall Marketing Campaign

New York & Company, Inc., a specialty clothing chain, announced that it will be spearheading its Fall 2006 marketing campaign with a couple of familiar faces: Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey.

TV's Hottest CoupleThe stars, who have captivated millions with their portrayals of Drs. Meredith Grey and Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy, will be featured in a campaign that showcases their undeniable chemistry (as well as the company's striking fall line of apparel).

"The big difference between shooting a couple that knows one another versus hired models is they already have a working relationship," a New York & Company executive said. "Patrick is very charming and funny. He's a one-stop source of one-liners. Ellen was trying to concentrate so hard on getting the right shot, and he kept cracking her up. There was such great energy the whole day."

No, Pompeo did not don any blue scrubs for the shoot. Rather, she posed in 16 different outfits, including the company's signature perfect fit pants, which are individually custom-tailored to a woman's body and proportions. In Ellen's case, that would be rather thin! But in a good way, of course.

Pompeo was also photographed in an array of tailored tops, as well as '80s-influenced, long-waist sweaters... one of which (wait for it) happened to be in a light grey.

New York & Company approached the pair about the shoot, which took place recently in East Hampton, N.Y., before the outcome of season two had been revealed. It was a gamble that paid off.

"Our customer is very invested in TV, what's going on, who's hot. Nothing's hotter than Grey's Anatomy, and that's why Ellen and Patrick were such a perfect fit. All of America is waiting for them to get together and we guessed that the season would end the way it did," the exec said.

Ellen Pompeo Graces TV Guide Cover

Ellen PompeoUnlike most women, Ellen Pompeo, who's featured on the cover of the newest TV Guide, prays for bad hair days.

Not for herself, of course, but for basket case Meredith Grey. After all, it seems the surgical intern played by the 36-year old Pompeo is often trying to wash one man or another out of her hair. When she's going through hard times (pretty much non-stop), Meredith's hair looks particularly rough.

"The worse she's doing, the messier it is. She sleeps with too many guys and never seems to learn any lessons. But I guess if she did, it would mean no show," said Pompeo, who rises at 5 a.m. to begin shooting Grey's Anatomy.

In real life, Ellen's morning rounds consist of feeding Valentino and Gigi, her brown and black miniature toy poodles, then coffee with her boyfriend, music producer Chris Ivery. After that, some yoga and, time permitting, some weight lifting. The rail-thin Pompeo has jackrabbit-like metabolism and relies on workouts to build muscle tone.

"I'm the type who has to build muscle to get any curves at all," she said.

At work, Ellen's trailer is stocked with multivitamin lemonade and vitamin water to power her through the day. Between scenes, if she isn't napping, she catches up on phone calls, e-mails and film scripts. If she's filming very late, Ivery comes by to hang out. Pompeo, who swears by her TiVo, says her current TV obsession is Bravo's Blow Out, but considering Ivery's line of work, there are American Idol evenings as well.

Such is the life of the eponymous Grey's Anatomy star. You'll have to grab the new edition of TV Guide to read the full story, but for now, you can check out the pictures from her photo shoot in our image gallery!

Ellen Interviewed By SELF Magazine

In the March edition of SELF, which for some reason shows up at my apartment (and for some reason emits an odd fragrance when opened), Ellen Pompeo talks about how she stays happy and healthy.

Ellen Finds Inner Peace

Life hasn't always been easy for the 36-year old Grey's Anatomy star, but all that she's learned along the way has helped her grow. Raised in working-class Everett, Massachusetts, by her father and older siblings (she has five in all) after her mother passed away when Ellen was four, Pompeo appreciated everything she had. She credits her upbringing for her enthusiasm and inner peace.

"I'm the person I am and have the compassion I have because of it," she said. "I try to go out and be the best person I can be, and feel I have to try and live the life my mother never got a chance to live."

As for her physical health, you may have noticed her thinness. Well, don't assume it's a result of any disorder. Contrarily, the 5'7", 100-pound brunette requires 3,000 calories a day just to keep the pounds on. The only problem she has is her metabolism, which is simply too fast. During her 14-hour days on the Grey's set, Pompeo eats every two hours just to maintain her energy. A nutritionist keeps her in line during the week, but on weekends, Ellen says, she "eats whatever she wants."

Grey's Anatomy Cast Has Festive Time at TV/Radio Event

What makes Grey's Anatomy such a critically-acclaimed, viewer-obsessed sensation? There's great writing and intriguing story lines for sure - but the diverse, entertaining, talented cast is truly what stands out about our favorite program.

To see how these actors mesh away from Seattle Grace Hospital, USA Today recently ran a story on the cast's appearance at the Museum of Television & Radio's 23rd annual William S. Paley Television Festival on Tuesday.

The Stellar CastTen of the show's actors, plus five writers and producers, along with the creator, Shonda Rhimes, filed onstage at the Director's Guild of America to answer questions from a moderator and audience members.

"For us, not having a time slot last year, and now all of you watching ... has been great," Rhimes told the screaming audience, mostly women, at the sold-out event.

Patrick Dempsey
, who plays neurosurgeon Dr. Derek Shepherd ("McDreamy," to anyone in the know) sat between his two love interests: Kate Walsh, who plays his wife, Dr. Addison Shepherd, and Ellen Pompeo, who portrays intern Meredith Grey. It turned out that Dempsey's real-life heartthrob status made an impression on Rhimes herself.

Dempsey said he had been "completely terrified" of Rhimes during his original audition because she stared at him, "no expression, no warmth," but Rhimes thought otherwise.

"The entire time he was in the room, I thought, 'He's so dreamy,'" she said.

When asked how the cast resembled its characters, Pompeo grinned and pointed at Dempsey.

"I haven't publicly said this before, but I do have a crush on him," Pompeo said.

"Well, I have a crush on you, too," Dempsey, who is married to Jillian Fink, shot back, to sighs and whoops from the audience.

"I've got a crush on both of you. Maybe we can party," Walsh said, laughing.
