Chandra Wilson On Grey's Anatomy Finale

The amazing Chandra Wilson, who stars as Dr. Miranda Bailey on ABC's hit drama, Grey's Anatomy, will be hanging up her white coat and stethoscope this summer to host SOAPnet's live, two-hour special from the red carpet of the 34th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Not Chief Resident!? Wilson, a longtime fan who admits to watching hours of soaps a day, looks forward to chatting with the folks from her favorite shows.

Entertainment Tonight caught up with the TV doc at a shoot for her upcoming gig, and got a little bit of scoop on Greys Anatomy from the actress whose character surprisingly wasn't named Chief Resident in the Season 3 finale.

"It is alright," she tells ET. "[Dr. Bailey] already has her clinic. Maybe if she didn't have the clinic, she probably would have been in a better position [to land the job], but she is already running that thing. She had those conversations this year with the Chief about doing too much."

"[Richard Webber] told her: 'You need to slow down. You need to delegate.' She doesn't want to delegate. She wasn't willing to delegate. She wants to do it all. This was a good lesson about you can't do it all, or you don't have to do it all. This is a nice little wake-up call for her."

Grey's Anatomy goes back into production in July, and Chandra Wilson has been online scoping fan blogs to get viewers' take on what they want to happen in the fourth season.

"The fans wish she had made chief resident, but everything in due time," Chandra said. "She is not an attending yet. She still has that to do. We keep forgetting she has the whole responsibility of the clinic, but the fans are hoping for a showdown between Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Bailey."

What Chandra won't do is speculate on rumors as to the future of T.R. Knight and Isaiah Washington on the show.

"I really don't know what is in store," she says. "All Shonda Rhimes said is there is some great stuff in store for us. We're going to be getting back to some fun things."

An Interview With Chandra Wilson

On Grey's Anatomy, SAG Award winner and Emmy nominee Chandra Wilson plays Dr. Miranda Bailey (aka "The Nazi"), a hardened surgeon who doesn't take crap from anyone. Although recently, her tough-as-nails exterior has been whittled down a bit thanks to the arrival of her son.

The real Chandra Wilson and the fictional Miranda Bailey share much in common - in particular, their lifestyles of juggling work and family. Chandra however, couldn't be nicer. TV with MeeVee caught up with her and her brood at the TCA Press Tour for an interview. See below...

Chandra WilsonTV with MeeVee: Both you and Miranda Bailey have your hands full, with a career and a family at home. What's your secret?
Chandra Wilson: You know, making it work. Like even tonight. This is a night where I know I'm going to be gone all day tomorrow, so if I'm not going to see [my son], even if I'm in the same room, because I'm getting dressed - we've worked all week long, we've had long days, and I needed to come do this today, and I said: "Okay. You guys get to ride with me today." So, just like Dr. Bailey sometimes rolls up with the baby [laughs], you just make it work.

TV with MeeVee: One of the most common observations about Grey's Anatomy is its commitment to casting roles traditionally not held by women and/or people of color -- your role in particular. Do you think this a sign that the industry's coming around? What's your experience been like?
Chandra Wilson: It's been kind of a different journey for me, coming out of New York, as opposed to really being here in L.A., and going through the movie and studio circuit here in L.A. This role came up, and she was non-traditionally cast, so that's another place where I wasn't necessarily affected by any preferences that are out there in the world right now, or in Hollywood. Grey's is a multi-ethnic show [laughs], so that's another place. I'm kind of living in the cocoon of all circumstances that prove that there's nothing wrong. Once I step out of Grey's, that's when I can say, "Okay, wait a minute. We don't have enough men and women of color," or, "We need more men and women of color as show-runners." But while I'm in Grey's Anatomy, I'm looking at it through those eyes.

Isaiah Washington, Grey's Anatomy Shine at 38th Annual NAACP Image Awards

Isaiah WashingtonOscar winners Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson kept their winning streaks alive, while Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington claimed a coveted prize at the 38th annual NAACP Image Awards Friday.

Washington, who has been sharply criticized for uttering a gay slur on the set of his hit show, scored Best Actor for a Drama Series.

"I'm humbled and honored to be recognized by the NAACP," said the 43-year-old Washington, who announced earlier this year he would seek counseling after receiving a torrent of negative publicity for his comments.

"The first time I was up here I felt deserving of something," the humble star added. "This time I feel privileged."

In addition, Grey's Anatomy won for Best Drama Series, Chandra Wilson won for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and creator Shonda Rhimes took home the honors for Best Writing in a Drama Series. While he did not win, James Pickens, Jr., was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and was on hand along with his fellow castmates.

Wilson, one of Grey's Anatomy's most honored stars, wished her deceased father was with her on what would have been his birthday.

"His little daughter is real happy to be standing here," she said.

"The Pursuit of Happyness," starring Will Smith and his son, won picture honors. Keke Palmer nabbed actress for "Akeelah and the Bee," and Djimon Hounsou took supporting actor for "Blood Diamond."

Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama won a literary nonfiction Image Award for his book, "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream." Obama did not attend the ceremony.

Prince, who was awarded best male music artist, read a poem about protecting the environment.

"Fifty years from now, what will they say about us?" Prince asked.

Chandra Wilson, Grey's Anatomy Cast Clean Up at SAG Awards

Chandra Wilson Wins!Congratulations to the entire cast of Grey's Anatomy for winning the Screen Actors Guild award for best performance by an ensemble in a drama series last night.

A testament to chemistry and talent, this honor was earned by every member of the cast and should be savored.

Special congratulations go out to Chandra Wilson, who won the SAG award for best female actor in a drama series.

The actress who we've come to know and love as Dr. Miranda Bailey is a dynamic presence on the show and deserves every ounce of credit she gets.

While accepting her award, a teary-eyed Wilson credited her castmates and light-heartedly acknowledged the elephant (not) in the room.

"It's about those 10 cast members sitting over there," Wilson said. "... and the other one in rehab. Y'all just hold me together."

Wilson was referring, of course, to embattled star Isaiah Washington, who was not in attendance. Later, Ellen Pompeo, while accepting the award on behalf of the entire ensemble, also thanked Washington, as well as several of the many talented Grey's Anatomy guest stars who weren't there.

Refreshingly, the dark cloud hanging over Grey's Anatomy appears to have lifted, with the focus of the night remaining where it should be - on TV's best drama. Prior to the event, Katherine Heigl took the high road when asked about Isaiah.

"As far as we know, he's seeking treatment right now to help with some of his issues," Heigl told E! anchor Ryan Seacrest, repeatedly refusing to speculate on Washington's absence or return.

Below are some pictures from the SAG awards. Congratulations once again to the Grey's Anatomy cast, and especially Chandra on a job well done!

Grey's Anatomy Nets Pair of Screen Actors Guild Nominations

The 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild nominees have been announced, honoring several actors and shows on television. The awards will be broadcast and handed out on January 28. Here's a look at two categories in which our favorite show is nominated, as well as the other nominees in those areas.

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series:

"24" (2001)
"Boston Legal" (2004)
"Deadwood" (2004)
"Grey's Anatomy" (2005)
"The Sopranos" (1999)

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series:

Patricia Arquette for "Medium" (2005)
Edie Falco for "The Sopranos" (1999)
Mariska Hargitay for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1999)
Kyra Sedgwick for "The Closer" (2005)
Chandra Wilson for "Grey's Anatomy" (2005)

This comes on the heels of the announced nominees for the Golden Globe Awards, which will be handed out January 15. Our own Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl all earned nominations, along with the series itself. Congrats to Chandra for picking up a SAG nod.

Sandra Oh: A Team Player

The amazing Sandra Oh, who has been nominated for many awards in the past for her portrayal of Dr. Cristina Yang (probably the only reason she isn't up for any this year), said at the SAG nominations that while individual honors are great, she's most proud of the nominations she's received as part of the entire cast.

What a team player. With a group as talented as the one she works with every week on Grey's Anatomy, who can argue with that? Not us.

Isaiah, Chandra, James On Jet Cover

This magazine cover isn't new, but we just came across it yesterday. Earlier this year, Grey's Anatomy stars Isaiah Washington, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, Jr., all graced the cover of JET. See below.

Isaiah Washington, Chandra Wilson & James Pickens, Jr.

As always, great to see these three stars, particularly Chandra (Dr. Bailey) and James (Dr. Webber), who are less frequently in the public eye. We're in the process of trying to track down the actual article. Stay tuned.

Pregnancy Talk With Chandra Wilson

Fans catching a glimpse of this week's episode during the end credits last Thursday saw Meredith Grey worrying that she might be pregnant. We can't say whether or not this plot development is true, nor can we comment on the rumors flying around that Ellen Pompeo is pregnant in real life. Yet somehow we doubt both.

Chandra WilsonWe'll tell you one thing for certain, though. Last season, when Dr. Bailey was pregnant, that was the real deal. At the same time her character was giving birth (with George's helpful aid), Chandra Wilson (right) brought her third baby into the world.

In the newest People magazine, Chandra offers her take on the process, sounding a bit like her witty Seattle Grace alter ego:

"I've gone through three childbirths so far, and they've all been wonderful. I highly recommend epidurals, though. I'm looking for an endorsement deal."

Hmm. Not sure how that would work exactly, but we're pretty sure Nike is trying to get through to Wilson's management team about now.

In case you were wondering, epidurals are a popular form of medication for labor in most hospitals. An epidural is defined as a form of regional anesthesia involving injection of drugs through a catheter placed into the epidural space. The injection causes a loss of sensation and pain by blocking the transmission of pain signals through nerves in or near the spinal cord. Fun!

Wilson Promotes Cards That Count

Chandra Wilson, otherwise known as Dr. Miranda Bailey on Grey’s Anatomy, is teaming up with Cards That Count, a free online e-greetings program run by Bounty, the country's most popular paper towel. Chandra Wilson

In celebration of 40 years in business, Bounty will be donating a total of $500,000 to three charities, the American Cancer Society, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Wilson will be working closely with several charities to co-design special e-cards and has a personal connection to the cause -- seven of her female relatives have struggled with cancer. Her experiences supporting her loved ones and their illnesses led to her involvement with Cards That Count.

If you would like additional information about Cards That Count, please contact the Insider and we will put you in touch with its contacts.

Wilson is a Force to Be Reckoned With

At 5'0", Chandra Wilson is hardly a giant among her peers. At least literally. But give her some authority, throw some blue hospital scrubs on her, and the actress becomes a force to be reckoned with.

Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey

An Emmy nominee, as a matter of fact.

In real life, the Houston Chronicle reports, Wilson is married with three children, and a lot less loud and bossy than her Grey's Anatomy character. Dr. Miranda Bailey.

"The Nazi" is what Bailey was referred to in the show's pilot episode, when creator Shonda Rhimes wanted a take-no-prisoners character with a don't-you-dare attitude to instruct the impressionable interns.

Wilson delivered.

"It's a teacher's mentality. The pilot described me as the Nazi, so I had to think about that and try to relate. It's about my demeanor, how I carry myself, demanding respect from my students," Chandra said. "Once I have that, I just teach."

The character seems to come easily to Wilson.
