Chandra Wilson, Grey's Anatomy Cast Clean Up at SAG Awards

Chandra Wilson Wins!Congratulations to the entire cast of Grey's Anatomy for winning the Screen Actors Guild award for best performance by an ensemble in a drama series last night.

A testament to chemistry and talent, this honor was earned by every member of the cast and should be savored.

Special congratulations go out to Chandra Wilson, who won the SAG award for best female actor in a drama series.

The actress who we've come to know and love as Dr. Miranda Bailey is a dynamic presence on the show and deserves every ounce of credit she gets.

While accepting her award, a teary-eyed Wilson credited her castmates and light-heartedly acknowledged the elephant (not) in the room.

"It's about those 10 cast members sitting over there," Wilson said. "... and the other one in rehab. Y'all just hold me together."

Wilson was referring, of course, to embattled star Isaiah Washington, who was not in attendance. Later, Ellen Pompeo, while accepting the award on behalf of the entire ensemble, also thanked Washington, as well as several of the many talented Grey's Anatomy guest stars who weren't there.

Refreshingly, the dark cloud hanging over Grey's Anatomy appears to have lifted, with the focus of the night remaining where it should be - on TV's best drama. Prior to the event, Katherine Heigl took the high road when asked about Isaiah.

"As far as we know, he's seeking treatment right now to help with some of his issues," Heigl told E! anchor Ryan Seacrest, repeatedly refusing to speculate on Washington's absence or return.

Below are some pictures from the SAG awards. Congratulations once again to the Grey's Anatomy cast, and especially Chandra on a job well done!

Despite Grey's Anatomy Controversy, ABC Leads GLAAD Award Nominees

ABC, whose biggest show has made headlines over an anti-gay slur used by star Isaiah Washington, nevertheless led nominees for this year's awards from an organization that monitors depictions of gays and lesbians in the media and encourages equality and fair representation.

Grey's AnatomyThe network landed eight nominations from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the group announced Sunday.

CBS garnered five nods, NBC three and PBS two. Among cable networks, CNN received four, Bravo and HBO three, and BBC America two, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The medical drama is nominated for outstanding individual episode.

The show itself has gotten unwanted attention since Washington used a slur to describe castmate T.R. Knight in an on-set dustup with co-star Patrick Dempsey in October, then used it again at this month's Golden Globes as he denied ever uttering it.

Washington apologized
Thursday after the network admonished him.

Nominees for feature film in wide release include Little Miss Sunshine, The Night Listener, Running with Scissors, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and V for Vendetta. Special prizes will go to singer Patti LaBelle, fashion designer Tom Ford and tennis great Martina Navratilova.

The 18th annual GLAAD Media Awards - consisting of 42 categories - are split into four ceremonies, held in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and San Francisco. The awards recognize and honor mainstream media outlets for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.

Grey's Anatomy Wins Top Producers Guild Honor, But Feud Still Lingers

Shonda Rhimes"It's not an easy week to be a producer."

That understatement came on stage from Grey's Anatomy creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes, accepting the award for best TV drama at Saturday's Producers Guild of America Awards.

According to USA Today, Rhimes skipped the red carpet and declined to pose with her award in the photo room, and when she was approached at her table for comment on Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington's future, she said only, "I'm just here supporting my fellow producers on the show."

Washington has been under fire for using a homophobic slur to refer to co-star T.R. Knight during an on-set dust-up in October and again after the Golden Globe Awards last week, with some calling for him to be fired. Thursday, he was scolded in a statement from ABC, which said called his actions "unacceptable." He later issued an apology.

Grey Anatomy leading man Patrick Dempsey, who was involved in the October confrontation, presented the TV comedy award to NBC's The Office, but kept a low profile, confining himself to the backstage green room. But Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip's Sarah Paulson had no problem speaking out:

"If someone said that about me and outed me that way, it would be really hard. I appreciate that (Grey's Anatomy co-star) Katherine Heigl stood up for T.R., because it's our job to protect each other."

Other celebs have been chiming in, too: Neil Patrick Harris of CBS' How I Met Your Mother told People: "I was just sort of stunned that anyone would want to rehash any of that again."

The cast of our favorite TV program walked away with the award for Best Drama Series last night at the 64th annual Golden Globe Awards. But just as importantly, they looked great doing it!

Below are some pictures of the Grey's Anatomy cast from last night's gala. Sorry we can't post more - time and server constraints! We think you'll enjoy the assortment of pictures below, however. Click to enlarge!

Grey's Anatomy Named Best TV Drama

Congratulations to the Cast!

The cast and creators of Grey's Anatomy strike a pose backstage in the press room with the prestigious award for Best Television series in the Drama category during the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Monday, January 15, 2007.

While Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey failed to win individual awards in their respective best actress and actor categories, it's great to see the whole cast pull it out in the one that matters most. It's a true team effort, week after week, and this group deserves to share the credit!

We're putting together a collection of pictures of the Grey's Anatomy cast members at the event, which we'll post on the site later today. Congratulations, all!

A Special Golden Globes Preview

Admittedly, handicapping the Golden Globes - which will be handed out Monday, January 15 - is a little like predicting the path of a tornado, but Michael Ausiello of TV Guide feels he is up to the task. Here are the aficionado's picks for who will win the TV categories - and who should win, and who was snubbed. Many include our favorite show and its cast.

Hopefully, two of his predictions will turn out to be correct - and at this same time, Ellen and Patrick can prove this pundit wrong!

Golden Globe AwardsBest Drama Series

24
Big Love
Grey's Anatomy
Heroes
Lost

Should Win: Grey's Anatomy. Technically, Battlestar Galactica should win, but since it wasn't even nominated, Grey's Anatomy gets the nod, if for no other reason than sheer consistency. Of the five nominees, it's the only one that makes me cry every week. And I don't cry easily.
Will Win: Grey's Anatomy. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association prides itself on being Emmy's hip cousin, yet it failed to honor TV's hottest show last year. It wouldn't dare make that mistake again â€" especially not with my reputation on the line.
Dissed: Battlestar, Friday Night Lights, The Sopranos, The Shield and Deadwood.

Best Actor in a Drama

Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy)
Michael C. Hall (Dexter)
Hugh Laurie (House)
Bill Paxton (Big Love)
Kiefer Sutherland (24)

Should Win: I'm going with Hall even though I have yet to see a single episode of Dexter. The buzz is just too deafening to ignore.
Will Win: I'm going with Hall even though the HFPA probably hasn't seen a single episode of Dexter, either. Again with the buzz.
Dissed: Matthew Fox, Kyle Chandler, Michael Chiklis, Ian McShane and Denis Leary

Ellen PompeoBest Actress in a Drama

Patricia Arquette (Medium)
Edie Falco (The Sopranos)
Evangeline Lilly (Lost)
Ellen Pompeo (Grey's Anatomy)
Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer)

Should Win: Falco. Ellen Pompeo may have the cool factor going for her, but Falco's got the goods. Her spellbinding work during Tony's near-death experience was the stuff of legend.
Will Win: Falco. If the HFPA wants us to believe they actually watch TV, they have to pick Falco.
Dissed: Mary McDonnell, Sally Field and Molly Parker

Grey's Anatomy a Double Winner at People's Choice Awards

McDreamy Wins! We're pleased to announce that Grey's Anatomy took home some hardware last night as a double winner at the People's Choice Awards.

Our favorite show who the award for favorite TV drama, and leading man Patrick Dempsey took home the honors for favorite male TV star.

"Thank you for a second chance!" Dempsey told the crowd. "I'm very fortunate to be part of a great ensemble."

To the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes, he said:

"Thank you for creating Dr. McDreamy, it's changed my life."

Hopefully, this is just the beginning of an awards-packed month for the cast. The Golden Globe Awards are slated for January 15, and the Screen Actors Guild honors will be handed out January 28.

Congratulations to Patrick, and the entire cast of Grey's Anatomy. We'll look around for some photos from the awards to post later in the day.

Grey's Anatomy Nets Pair of Screen Actors Guild Nominations

The 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild nominees have been announced, honoring several actors and shows on television. The awards will be broadcast and handed out on January 28. Here's a look at two categories in which our favorite show is nominated, as well as the other nominees in those areas.

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series:

"24" (2001)
"Boston Legal" (2004)
"Deadwood" (2004)
"Grey's Anatomy" (2005)
"The Sopranos" (1999)

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series:

Patricia Arquette for "Medium" (2005)
Edie Falco for "The Sopranos" (1999)
Mariska Hargitay for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1999)
Kyra Sedgwick for "The Closer" (2005)
Chandra Wilson for "Grey's Anatomy" (2005)

This comes on the heels of the announced nominees for the Golden Globe Awards, which will be handed out January 15. Our own Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl all earned nominations, along with the series itself. Congrats to Chandra for picking up a SAG nod.

Sandra Oh: A Team Player

The amazing Sandra Oh, who has been nominated for many awards in the past for her portrayal of Dr. Cristina Yang (probably the only reason she isn't up for any this year), said at the SAG nominations that while individual honors are great, she's most proud of the nominations she's received as part of the entire cast.

What a team player. With a group as talented as the one she works with every week on Grey's Anatomy, who can argue with that? Not us.

Grey's Anatomy Cast Tops Magazine's List of 2006's Best Entertainers

The cast of Grey's Anatomy tops Entertainment Weekly's list of the year's top entertainers because of their cultural impact, the magazine said.

The year-end issue of Entertainment Weekly hits U.S. newsstands starting Friday with its widely watched lists of the year's top picks in movies, music, TV, books and many other categories.

Entertainment Weekly said the cast of Grey's Anatomy - McDreamy, McSteamy and all the others - led the chart of top entertainers because they had a cultural impact beyond their show's roughly 20 million weekly viewers. In addition, the episodes - filled with sexual affairs and career problems - sparked chatter around offices, schools and homes across the U.S.

"Grey's Anatomy isn't just a show, it's a phenomenon," said Entertainment Weekly Executive Editor Lori Majewski.

"Back in May when last season's final show aired, every place in New York City was empty. You could get a table at the best restaurants."
