Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Obstacles For MerDer

Last night, we saw new mom Ellen Pompeo back at Grey’s Anatomy. The show is moving Derek and Meredith back where they belong: front and center. That’s the good news.

Here comes the bad, according to EW: “They will face relationship challenges, many of them work-oriented, in the second half of the season,” reveals creator Shonda Rhimes.

Rhimes insists, though, that this latest obstacle will not result in the newly married-via-Post-It pair breaking up - a rumor that has been making the rounds on the Internet.

Mer and Der Love

Derek and Meredith aren't breaking up ... but there'll be bumps along the way.

“I don’t know how many times [I] can say, ‘Derek and Meredith are together forever’ and have anybody hear it,” the  executive producer says. “I can only reassure so much."

“In order to [produce] a drama you need to have some drama,” Rhimes adds.

“Whether or not two people are meant for one another and will remain together doesn’t mean that things aren’t going to happen to challenge their relationship.”

What do you think? Are you okay with watching the MerDer relationship evolve even if it means some difficult times? And what do you think these new obstacles will be?

I don't mind some drama between my favourite couple after all it is a drama show, and they can't be happy all the time! None of the relationships are always happy no matter how much they love each other. I think mostly of their problems have something to do with work!! And I think it will be good to see them getting through their difficult times as a strong married couple together without running and avoiding!!
But it is great that we have a guarantee that Meredith and Derek are forever and are NEVER going to break up=].

I agree. A guarantee they are together forever is as perfect as you will get in tv land. And being tv of course there will be drama.
I think that Mer will defend the Chief and help him overcome his drinking and in effect it will be seen by Derek as taking the Chief's side which will cause friction in their relationship.
It has to be said this season is sooo exciting, long overdue!!

FINALLY. I love their five second moments but this is what makes MerDer great, the ability to move forward and stop being in the vicious circle. Love it.

Mmm...I think that by work related almost confirms that Mer isn't going to make her interest in Neuro. Or that Derek will be Chief while the Chief gets some help...

I don't care, it's going to be great.

  4. Mrs.McSteamy Says:

As long as they stay together, I'm fine with some MerDer drama.

  5. MerDer4ever Says:

yeah, i love merder, but i actually enjoy watching them the most when they're mad at eachother. makes the scenes where they're happy that much better!

  6. Christie Says:

I bet you Derek wants kids!

  7. george=hot Says:

Disappointed to know Derek & Meredith are going to be
front and center there's other actors and actresses that
deserve screen time i don't think it's good news :/

  9. Christina's Intern Says:

i agree. though its nice to know merder will stay merder. there are still so much drama to be explored besides them falling apart. besides, someone has to set an example of an ideal married couple for other GA characters lol (alex and lizzie, just talk it out!)

SmilinSloan, are you kidding me? MerDer have been in the back light since like...the beginning of season 5! We've only got some good scenes here and there and then there are little short scenes of cuteness...but then...that's it? No, i am happy about this. MerDer totally deserve some time! They are, after all, the main couple of the show, they are married (Meredith is the main character, i have to say) and damn it, i want me so MerDer. Lol
