Michael Ausiello has some scoop on Grey's Anatomy in his spoiler column today, mainly pertaining to Katherine Heigl and Ellen Pompeo, and when we can expect to see less (or, temporarily at least, none) of their characters, Izzie and Mer, going forward.
Here are excerpts from his Q&A ...
Q: There’s speculation that Izzie cheats on Alex on Grey’s Anatomy. Is it true?
A: No, but the newlyweds will be dealt a major blow at the end of next week’s episode (the best of the season, IMHO). In fact, the crisis that takes place is so big that Izzie disappears for roughly five non-consecutive episodes.
BTW, even though I knew Katherine Heigl’s mini-hiatus was coming, Izzie’s exit was no less powerful or emotional. And man, Heigl knocks it out of the park. She can be a real handful (Emmygate, 17-hour work day-gate, etc) but girlfriend delivers when it’s called for.
Q: When will Ellen Pompeo’s maternity leave from Grey’s Anatomy kick in on screen?
A: Unlike Izzie, Meredith isn’t going anywhere, although we’ll begin to see less of her (literally and figuratively) after this week’s episode. And her diminished screen time will make perfect sense given what happens tonight.
Q: Anything good on Grey’s Anatomy, specifically Callie and Arizona?
A: The aforementioned October 15 episode is a big one for these two, but mostly for Callie. Hector Elizondo is back as her gay-fearing dad and this time he’s brought backup!

Wow, can't wait for that ep! I can't possibly imagine what might Izzie cause to leave, but I believe we'll see some great acting from KH (and I'm saying it as a not-too-big-KH-fan).
The non-consecutive part of her upcoming absence surprised me actually; I thought we'll be Izzieless for more than a month.
It's weird but I like Izzie more after the last week's episode, where she was (if I remember correctly) the only one who mentioned George in a touching way. I liked that.

And yay for Meredith!! She is not gonna miss any episodes. That makes me so happy:))))) Ellen is so dedicated to the show:D

They are ALL dedicated to the show :) I believe that Izzie will be laid off, and maybe go stay with her mother...she did mention that her mom sent her the wig...so they have repaired their loose ties...Its going to get good...really good.
I feel like I am the only one who actually likes the whole merger..remember the point of bringing on all these characters is to be able to take Grey's to different levels, and ultimately get ABC to keep the show on past their 7 year contract! Can you imagine if Grey's stayed on as long as E.R.

It would be amazing to see it on for that long. I cant wait for tonights epi or the week after with Hector as Callies Dad, that was a fun epi last time he came to visit.

Okey we 'll see MER 30 seconds and IZZE too...Now we see Mer 40 seconds and IZZIE MANY MINUTS that's i didn't see the change...why ga must become as ER?my IDEA IS THAT EPISODE WILL CHANGE AS WE SEE ga...

I personally think we should be glad that we are seeing mer at all....she just had a baby normally people go on maternity leave, and are off the show for a while...
I love Mer/Der I love Alex/Izzie I'm one of the few people I guess who LOVE every charater and ever aspect of the show...I dont watch to only see izzie and alex or only see george or only see Mer/Der. I welcome change, because ultimately we have to be real the ratings were down last season, and they are ALREADY up this season....
Lets just be patient and keep the faith, and have faith in trust in our favorite guilty pleasure! =)
And I agree with Kristen...I like the merger too. It's so real, so many story's on Grey's seem so hard to fathom, but this is real! My dads company just merged with another, and they went through this same competition type work just to keep thier jobs! Kudos to shonda rimes and betsy beers and the rest of the writers for yet again touching on yet another storyline that really hits home with A LOT of viewers!
