On Sunday, October 4, the town of Lewiston, Maine, will host The Dempsey Challenge: A Journey for Hope. It is first year of the event, which Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, a native of that great state and an avid cyclist, will be riding in personally.
There are also 10, 25, and 50-mile bike rides, as well as a 5K walk/run, with the money going to the recently-opened Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing, which he named after his mother (who is a five-time survivor of Ovarian Cancer).
As if that weren't cool enough, one of Grey's Anatomy Insider's readers, known on our site as marriedmymcdreamy, is riding in it and looking to raise money.
And, as if the good cause wasn't enough motivation, anyone who donates $20 or more will be entered to win an autographed version of the photo below!
You can donate to our resident cyclist's efforts via her donation page and follow her fundraising efforts via her Twitter page as well. Best of luck, Shannon!

@xogreysfan4lifeox - cool! they are not taking anymore actual riders or runners because they capped at 3,500 people and have reached that. However, you can register as a virtual rider and fundraise, or you can donate to someone else's page ;), and you can also volunteer. Go to www.dempseychallenge.org to look for vounteer opportunities if you are interested. I know they are still looking for volunteers to help in various areas.

I registered for this back in May I think, except I am doing the 5k run. This is such a great thing he is doing for cancer awareness. I hope I get to tell him that up close :) I leave on Oct 1st from Nashville airport to head up there. Good Luck Shannon!!
