Today's TV Guide spoiler Q&A focuses on a question many of us have been asking throughout the offseason as a "transitional" Grey's Anatomy begins to take shape: How will things change with some of its mainstays out of commission for significant periods of time?

Q: How will Grey's Anatomy write around the absences of Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl?
A: The show will shift its focus to more character-centric episodes, executive producer Krista Vernoff says. One hour will be almost exclusively dedicated to Derek and a patient.
Seattle Grace's merger with Mercy West will bring in some new blood and cut loose some long-standing characters. Specific fallout from that plot line? That we'll have to wait for.
"There are some that stay [and] some that don't make it," says Chandra Wilson.
"There will be some familiar faces that remain ... but we also wanted the audience to be able to feel that this is a huge thing and that there was a loss there."
Q: Will Addison get a new love interest this season on Private Practice?
A: Kate Walsh answers this one: "I think we're holding off for a while," she says. "[Shonda Rhimes] is really interested in just seeing Addison single and running the practice with Sam." But that means more scenes with Taye Diggs - and more Taye Diggs is always a good thing, right?

The absence of Ellen Pompeo gives a hour will be dedicated to derek and a patient so we will be content but it so is not,because Derek is used FOR THE AUDIENCE as mirror for larks,i think this is happening...KRISTA VERNOFF SHONDA RHIMES must change and open their minds so they understand.....if no meaT and bye-bye ga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I am happy that no NEW love interest is going to present for Addie yet, since I think it will be nice to see her single (for once.) PrPr is GREAT.
Also, I don't understand the whole "absence of Ellen Pompeo." If you trust Shonda, she wrote on her Twitter, "there are currently no plans for Ellen to be missing at all." So are we really going to miss Meredith? - sounds like 'no.'
Finally, I CAN'T WAIT FOR TOMORROW!! Grey's Anatomy rules.

Deme I've read you comment twice and I don't have a clue what you are talking about. Anyway I'm just hoping the fight Callie and Cheif had don't end up with her leaving. I'de be so upset. Cause I love Callie and AZ.

I don't know about character-centric episodes. I like Derek, but a whole hour on only his storyline? That sucks! What sucks even more is they'll probably do episode-centic eps for other characters. I will not sit through a whole hour of Lexie! Sorry but nothing about her interests me. The thing that I love about the show is the interaction of ALL the characters and the various storylines in one episode. It just makes it less boring.
Oh well, we will just have to wait and see how this one turns out. Hopefully it's not going to be as bad as I imagine it being.

Character-centric episodes work quite well for Lost. I think that this could be worth trying. Just give it a chance. The only alternative would be to come up with reasons why suddenly Meredith and Izzy are gone for long periods of time. These are real people with lives, who *gasp* might need time off every once in a while. The show needs to be able to deal with these absences.

Something different: Ellen Pompeo gave birth to her daughter. I read that from several sources. Ellen and her hubbie named her Stella Luna- isn't it one of the cutest names ever? :))) just wanted you all to know this, wondered why ga-insider hasn't posted it yet..

Exactly Angela. It also worked for other medical dramas and they need to keep the focus away for a while. Also, it is good to get to know other characters.
I am actually quite excited for this Derek-centric episode. It's about time that the Attendings get a part of the action.
Besides, I totally missed the part when it was said that Lexie was going to have an hour dedicated to her. If I'm not wrong, it's Derek and Bailey getting the character centric episodes.
As for Addie, good for her. I do want to meet Bizzy. Addie got so little background on GA.

I can't wait till Bailey goes to LA to see Addie. That is going to be awsome. Maybe she will flirt a little with Sam. LOL!!! I hope for some reason she gets to fuss at them as only Bailey can fuss. LOL!!! I love Bailey AZ and Callie. But I like Mer Der and Christina and Izzy. Well I did like Sloan till be got nasty dating Lexie. And I think the chief is pretty cool.
