Or not? This item from E! Online's spoiler Q&A this morning seems to suggest that our girl may not be out of the woods just yet when the new season begins in September ...
Q: Do you have any news on Grey's Anatomy?
A: Looks like Grey's Anatomy is currently casting an oncology resident for the second episode of Season Six. Is Dr. Izzie Stevens' cancer in remission or not? Hmmm...

This spoiler is pretty stupid.
Because as previously posted..if S6 picks up right where S5 ended with george and izzie still coding..obiviously her cancer isnt getting any better.
I reckon they might have a couple of month time jump somewhere near the beginning of the season..like after the drama of georges funeral and characters morning his death etc. mabye after 5/6 episodes..that way they can get on with other story lines..and have izzie trying to find her feet again as a surgeon and all the struggles with that..

i kinda agree that this spoiler is pointless, i also agree in a jump, i read in a side for episode 6.02 that a resident stated that they were a third year. so i'm thinking that the 2 hr. premiere night 6.01 deals with izzie and george's funeral, possibly the gang's interns taking their intern's test, with 6.02 being a few months ahead. it's possible that i'm also completely wrong.

I am not at all convinced that Izzie will finish her internship at SGH. We know KH has signed for S6, that's all. I think Izzie will have a remission for a while. Pure guess work on my part. Unless TR agreed to film some S6 scenes, he won't appearing.

Oh yei! More cancer storyline...Izzie's Anatomy isn't going to end soon, is it?
jude,
I don't think she'll be able to ever catch up either. Mer, Cris, and Alex are all going to be way ahead from her and she'll be stuck doing her second year of residency again. I hate this line but like Alex or Cristina (can't remember) said: She's the new O'Malley.
Also, TR didn't agree for S.6 episodes. :(

I hope she flatlines for good... I would much rather see george than izzie...he is a little less annoying!

Jude,
All the original five finished their internship. That's why they are all second-year residents. And within the GA-timeline, she's only been a patient for maybe a month at most; granted even if her cancer goes into her remission, it would be difficult for her to catch up, but within hospital heirarchy, she won't be "held" back per se. A General Surgery residency takes anywhere between 5 to 7 years, the first being the intern-year, so while some like Christina can finish the GS-resideny in 5 years, maybe it'll take Izzie 6 or 7. She would still be a third-year resident next year (in GA-time).

They meant she was the new O'Malley because she has his good heart and sensitivity and humanity. That was a compliment, and Izzie took it as one. She said she'd be honouyred to be the new him as she should be. George was awesome!
George did catch up to them. He passed his intern exam the second time around, and got to be a resident just like the rest of them. He wasn't behind when he died. In fact he was being groomed to be a trauma surgeon by owen, which was pretty impressive. Then he quit.
I'll miss George so much. I already miss him.

Barb,
No offense, but when they called her the new O'Malley it wasn't because of that. Mer, Cris, and Alex all noted that she wasn't even in the OR anymore and called her like that because she was left behind, like George was.
Unfortunately, George didn't catch up. He, as well as Izzie, didn't get his solo surgery. He was a good amount of time behind and even if he did manage to find an area of interest (totally surprised, swore he'd be more into General) he wasn't at the level that the rest of them are.
Sad that he'll never get the shot.

Ace,
I believe that by the end of this season they already finished their second year of residency. By the SP they were halfway through their second year. Assuming that this season was in an average of a 6 month span, they finished their second year. It's time for them to choose a specialty.
Too bad that the timeline is so screwed up. It's even worse, when Derek asked Izzie about the date and she said 2009, when in GA timeline we're supposed to be about 2007. They need to clarify this up.

I think Izzie saw the comparison to George as good though. She said he worked harder than everyone and never walked over anyone to get ahead and she'd be honoured to be the new him. Izzie always saw the amazing in George the others didn't, and we George fans saw.
She saw his good heart, his hard work, and his talent as a doctor just like Burke and Owen did and all those doctors who wrote all those glowing reference letters about George.
It showed the connection between George and Izzie. It was one of my favorite scenes of the year.
