Q: Any scoop to get us Mer-Der fans through the dog days of summer? Perhaps some "baby talk" about Grey's Anatomy writing in Ellen Pompeo's pregnancy?
A: Both Chyler Leigh (Lexie) and I are of the mind that Grey's Anatomy would be hard-pressed to accommodate Pompeo's pregnancy, if only because of the timing.
"As far as I know they are not [writing it in]," Leigh said, pointing out that by the time the ABC serial resumes production, "Ellen will be, like, seven months [along]."
The only way I see it happening - and at least one source allows, "It could go either way" - is if Season Six picks up five or six months after the recent finale.
Such a jump would also allow poor George time to heal and look like recast Eddie Cibrian. Just kidding. Though a rumor of a new actor playing George did surface.

noo a mcbaby would draw away from the George/Izzie storyline and that's really what I'm curious about, not Meredith and Derek.

noo, i want a mcbaby!!! please give 'em a baby!! i don't care if season 6 picks up a couple of months after the season 5 finale. i've never cared about george and izzie, it's grey's anatomy i love, not steven's anatomy. if the focus on izzie and george is the reason why they don't have time giving merder a decent storyline, i'm seriously done with this show.

There's no need for them to work her pregnancy in. We'd miss WAY too much - the excitement when she finds out, etc......what, we'd just catch up when she's 7 months pregnant? That would suck. I say they leave it out, and do a McBaby on their own terms if they want - she doesn't have to be actually pregnant for them to write that in to the storyline.......there's such a thing as stuffing guys ; )

I think would a baby for derek and meredith would be so funny they react so different to everything in life there reaction would be fun to watch beside the storyline with lizzie and george is so sad it would just even things out a bit a little happy.

Why not give them a baby AND have the George and Izzie storyline? One would be uplifting and cute and the other would be sad, powerful, ect.
Great mix. That's what Grey's used to be about: sending a message with doses of humor, drama and romance. Now it's...a show I don't even recognize. Let's bring back the greatness of old Grey's with an opener like that. After Ellen has her baby should could wear a tummy lol Poor girl is going to hate pregnancy after all of that if it were to go through...

I was hoping they would write it in too or will do a prego storyline soon...i can just imagine how crazy meredith will be with her mommy issues then not really being around kids so she has to learn everything from Derek and funny little moments that they could have with this storyline....

Im also excited 4 a mer-der baby but if they get a baby nw it will seem 2 rushed.... I think it'll only b another season till mer gets pregnant nd a baby will jus b in da way 4 them nw

I sorta expected this because of the timing in Ellen's pregnancy. I think that something is going to happen to Mer or Derek for that matter, that is going to be the storyline to play out while Ellen is on maternity leave and both her and PD will be absent for a couple of episodes.
Maybe they take a vacation (honeymoon perhaps?) make it legal and once they come back, they find out that Mer is pregnant?
I honestly want this storyline more than a legal wedding or whatever else is going on. I want to see Derek hovering over a pregnant Mer. I want to see Mer deal with the fact that she is about to become a mother. I want to see them balance their professional lives and parenthood. I really want to see this happen. One can only dream, right?
@McHot, I think that they better make it for this season since everyone is contracted for only seven seasons and so far, Shonda hasn't given a hint that they might make more seasons. This show needs continuity and this would be great for at least MerDer.

What they should do is have flashbacks of what happens with izzie and geoerge and if one of them die the funeral and of meredith finding out she pregnant and how she handle it for the first episode and continual small flash back after that for the next few episodes or they could introduce the baby later
