Since before the current season even began, rumors have been circulating about Katherine Heigl wanting to leave Grey's Anatomy, and of her character Izzie Stevens' untimely demise.
With just one week to go in Season Five, all bets still off.
Hundreds of Grey's Anatomy spoilers and discussions later, we still have no idea if she's actually leaving the series, or if Izzie will succumb to cancer in the season finale.
On Thursday's episode, Izzie's wedding to Alex took place in part because of her deteriorating condition, which was quite evident at the emotional, dream ceremony.
Is next week going to be the end of the line for this original, dynamic character, or can she somehow beat the odds and recover after all she's gone through?

Does she have a lot of movies to shoot on her agenda? If yes she might be gone if not she'll stay!!! We are in a crisis remember!!

I think that we will actually not get to know whether she dies or lives. They need to keep us in suspense so that we come back for the next season... My guess is that in Izzie's case it will be left very ambiguous.

I think that Izzie will live Derek will do the surgary and see will live cause we need Alex to be happy now and see him so sad that breaks my heart. They are meant for each other and i think she will live and be their next season I was watching Justin on The view on the clips on the web site and they asked him if the hole cast was coming back and he sead yes so that must mean that Katherine Heigl will be back and he also sead that he can't say much i think she will be back and i think she will pull through the surgery and the cancer Please don't kill Izzie we need her She must stay

The marriage of Izie is a version for television of the wedding of Katie Kirkpatrick in 2005? My God! I just hope Shonda don't kill Izzie five days later.

I agree with "someone" in that I don't think we will know if Izzie will live or die at the end of the finale next week. But I really, really, really hope she lives!! Shonda, don't kill Izzie off, PLEASE! She adds so much to the show.
By the way, her wedding to Alex was perfect! Ingrid Michaelson's song "Turn To Stone" was perfect and unforgettable!

She has to survive! Otherwise I won't like Grey's nearly as much as I have until now :( Izzie's my favorite character. I'm kinda afraid they let her live, as Katie wants to stay and they don't wanna lose one of the original Fab5, but they make her lose her memory. This would be stupid, in my opinion, but is what I fear will happen... If they then make her fall out of love with Alex, because she doesn't remember him anymore, I will be VERY mad. So have Izzie survive and slowly recover. PLEASE!!!

I agree with you, GermanCarla. This is what I think will happen:
Izzie will choose to have surgery, knowing that she may die, and if she survives, she may lose her memory. In a way, she "dies" either way - a death of her body or of her memories.
I think she'll survive the surgery, and that the writers will leave us hanging till season six to know if she has lost her memory or not.
It may be an interesting storyline - how she struggles to find out who she is and was.
AND: It would give us an opportunity to see her falling in love with Alex, because that is something we did not get to see this season (she was too busy with dead Denny). Imagine how she would slowly get to know this man standing by her through thick and thin, and falling in love with him all over again, even after a loss of memory.

Hmm that would be interesting in theory but it would kill alex. I would rather izzie lose her memory than die (don't like either of these options) I will def dub the 5th season as the worst if she dies (but I won't stop watching) Wait just a few days and then we'll find out

I agree, I think the answer is none of the above. We won't find out if she lives or dies until next season, Shonda Rhimes's blog said there was a massive cliffhanger... this would have to be it...
