If anyone deserves one it's Sandra Oh or Justin Chambers. They both had an amazing season. Katherine Heigel is overrated.

Until this season, I didn't like Ellen's acting. Her manner of speaking annoyed be a little bit and her character was too emotionally "pale" for me. But she definitely grew on me this season, I think she matured as an actress and her character became more realistic to me. The scene with the chief ('you were just a little girl and no one stood up for you') was beautifully acted and I think Ellen deserves an Emmy for this season.
Kathrine Heigl, regardless of the rumours about her behaviour, etc. is a really good actress. Especially in all of the heart-breaking scenes, she's been flawless.
I like Sandra Oh but I think her character has not been developed well enough yet. I'd like the writers to get slightly deeper into her psychology, beyond the funny remarks and love for Owen. I guess she'll get an emmy-worth material next season. While Izzie is kind of a "whole" character (probably most of the viewers feel like they know her well), Christina remains a mystery. I can't wait to learn more about her.
Chandra Wilson has been great, as always. I think her character shows a great coherence throughout all the seasons. Chandra is amazing in showing how a person can be very strong and vulnerable at the same time.

And Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson should definitely get noms. Brilliant work this season. And Patrick Dempsey, he did a great job showing Derek's dark&twisty side. Justin Chanbers has done great too. As for Katherine Heigl, seriously? I can't help but be laughing if she doesn't get any recognition. Her ego is way too big and I think she is very overrated.

I agree that Kathryn Heigl is overrated as an actor--always have--Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh are phenomenal and have been consistent the last five years. I agree that Ellen Pompeo did a good job with the serial killer thing, it is the first time she makes me feel what the character is feeling, she should be recognized for that. But still I believe Katherine Heigl is the best on that show, together with Justin Chambers, they are my favorite and they are the only ones that make me cry or feel what they are feeling, even though I don't think they gave her good material this season, it was too shallow in some ways, she was presented in previous seasons as a good doctor, they let that pass her by and focus too much on her personal life. It gets too carried away from the show's purpose and id they keep down that road with the character stories, they'll end up being another Beverly Hills, The O.C. or Gossip Girl. They should stick to medicine mainly and their personal lives as a plus. Hope to see her again this upcoming season, she is amazing
And with all the rumours about the behaviour of KH: I kinda understand why she didn't want that Emmy. Maybe she just felt like the story was not Emmy worthy and others had a better story and deserved to win. That's only nice right?

I think that the entire cast was phenomenal this season. For me, the two who I think most deserve an Emmy are Sandra Oh and Justin Chambers. Sandra is always amazing; this year was no exception. Justin is so underrated, and I think he did star-quality work this season, both in Alex and Izzie's relationship, and in Alex's life as a surgeon. Particularly memorable for me was his scene with Addison during the crossover episode, where he talked about running. Absolutely amazing.

I honestly wish that everyone on the cast of Grey's could win an Emmy. They all really deserve one.
But, let's face reality here.
Whether or not you love her or hate her, Katherine Heigl is an amazing actress. I'm not saying that Ellen, Sandra and Chandra aren't amazing... They are and I love them.
But, as I read somewhere above... I'm not a person cries at sad movies or books or TV shows. Katherine Heigl is one of the few that can. And more than once. When Denny died, the wedding and the season 5 finale... I cried a lot.
I think KH deserves the Emmy, and I hope she wins it.
About Katherine Heigl... The girl is good. No one can argue. I caught myself thinking MANY TIMES this season: "That girl is sooo winning an Emmy". Great actress, really. And it doesn't matter what you think of her, or what she may or may not have done, this is an award that awards great actors. It's not supposed to consider personal traits - if she's modest or not, and so on... And besides, who are we to think ill of someone we don't even know, right?
Anyway, I agree with tvaddict..I hope she wins.

KH is totally overrated. She can cry on command but that doesn't make her a great actress. She's melodramatic and really lacks nuance, but I do admit she's a crowd-pleaser. Sigh.
Chandra and Sandra have both been strong and consistent for five seasons, as others have said, but the Academy of TV Arts & Sciences (the body of people who votes for the Emmys) tends to go for characters with harrowing storylines, and unfortunately KH was the only one given such material this season. The good news is that, despite Chandra and Sandra's multiple nominations already, the academy usually doesn't mind letting certain shows/actors dominate categories for several years. Throw Sara into the mix and we've got a lot of possibilities--she's a Tony Award winner, and the academy also likes to give nominations to people who already hold other honors.
I was thrilled to see Ellen finally get comfortable with her character this season. She was particularly brilliant in the death row story arc--and her reaction to George's "007" revelation was really very gripping. Too bad her category has so many ladies more likely to get a nomination (even if they're not necessarily deserving): Sally Field, Glenn Close, Holly Hunter, Kyra Sedgwick, Calista Flockhart, Mariska Hargitay, Chloe Sevigny... even Anna Paquin--who's not my favorite, but she IS an Oscar winner...

I also wanna agree with the person who said that Sandra is the one who really hasn't been given any material for the whole series. Her major relationships with Burke and Owen are definitely distinct from one another, but they both require that same old hard-shell pluckiness from Cristina that I think we're getting tired of seeing. Frankly, I'm way more interested in seeing the vulnerable or nurturing sides of her that I know she has: her unwanted pregnancy, her realization that Burke is gone, (and if you caught it) her genuine delight when she informed Alex that Izzie's memory was back. Sandra is way too talented an actress not to be given more opportunities to show off these multiple shades more often and more thoroughly.
