I'm wondering if they both live but then George still goes off to the Army. Then maybe they could start the new season a few months in the future when both are healed. AND then they they could announce the McBaby (Mer/Der).
I'm sure some of you have already put this together. If you remeber to the first episode of this season. Izzie has dejavu or something and she is in the elevator again in her prom dress, the door opens and its Denny. We all know Denny is dead, she smiles and takes his hand walking off the elevator. They then walk off together toward the light. So therefore, Im thinking George has already passed on, he's on the otherside like Denny. Izzie will want to come with him, but she stops somehow, she knows that as much needs her she is needed somewhere else much more. It'll suck but this is how it makes sense to me.

They were talking about Izzie having kidney problems after her surgery that was going to need to be watched. I think they're going to have George die and Izzie will get his kidneys. George gets to be a hero twice after saving the woman from getting hit by the bus and then Izzie. The writers have had him doing some pretty non-heroic things in the last couple of years. I'm glad if they decide to give him a hero's exit.

In another interview SR said about merder 'Big Reverberations'
If merder BREAK UP, I swear for god I´M SO OUT. SERIOUSLY?????????? Come on Shonda... You can do better. We watch 4 years of back and forth, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH SHONDA. PLease don´t break them up it´s ridiculous, look at ratings.
Out of extent of injuries, (and obviously Shonda's comments) it's more likely that George dies although it'd be more realistic if Izzie died, since she had only 5% chance to live plus she did sign a DNR regardless whether they decide to respect it or not. There is another elevator theory on George not going anywhere. He is after all in a floor already (before surgery, Derek said "O'Malley, you're not going anywhere") and may or may not choose to go with Izzie. Maybe Izzie is the one who is closer to death and not George?
@Tix, Reverberations could mean anything but at this point, a break up seems unlikely. It'd probably come down to something legal, like Derek wanting to update his will or both wanting to give each other power of attorney (in case either one is in an accident, the other one gets a say in his/her medical treatment) and it's easier by signing a marriage license than the entire legal process of giving each other the power. Or in case that a McBaby is on the way, to make sure that Derek gets all rights (b/c if they are not married, he had to legally adopt the kids or something. Does anyone here go to Law School? HELP :P) and the kids are protected.
This is a more likely scenario than a break up, so I wouldn't worry about that much.

Medically speaking, Georges chances of survival at the end of the end of the episode are much better than izzies. Other than the uniform/dream-sequence shot of George, there's nothing in the final few minutes of the episode to suggest he dies. He doesn't need reviving during surgery, and at no point does anyone in the OR with him look panicked. Izzie, on the other hand, ends the episode dead. As in actually. Flatline = absolutely no heart activity. And unlike Merideths drowning, she isn't hypothermic (which can protect organs for a period of time). While it is possible that they might successfully revive her, for her to be revived after flatlining really would be a medical miracle, and a very rare one at that. Not to mention the kidney failure that probably caused her hyperkalaemia, which caused her arhythmias, which caused her heart to stop. And even if she is revived, her chances of surviving late stage metastatic melanoma are pretty slim anyway.

George was once the forth most important character of the series. You had mer, der, cris and then george (what with his crush on mer and his huge HUGE storylines). Izzie herself wasn't as "important" as george in the first two series.
Things have changed, and although it's fairly obvious that, as it stands now, Izzie is more important than George, to the show, and the show would take a greater hit if she died, rather than him, I think Grey's Anatomy only has stuff to loose if any of those two characters disappeared. When Burke walked away, nothing, and I mean it, NOTHING was gained. Same thing with that lesbian cardio doc (I forget her name), but in her case, one could argue little was earned while she was in ( :P ).
In any ways, I don't really car as long as the show stays reasonably good as it has been. I mean, it has great writing (with a few less good parts, but still...), great actors (with a few not so good ones, like that oncologist, she's REALLY bad, GOD!!!!), and great cameras and sound and all that makes it a great series, but in my eyes, the job keeps getting harder and harder, and if they fall under all the pressure they themselves are building if they keep killing characters left and right, then I don't see how it can go on well.
Lastly, I just wanna say the first two series have a very confy place in my heart. I rewatch them from time to time, and the feeling they give me is always the same. Indescribable, the characters are just so good, the plot is just so fine, so personal, so good, and I miss that. Right now there's so many people around there's very little time to tell anything at all, and frankly, I'm surprised they are doing it this good. I just hope, again, they keep it up.
Let's see, in the beginning there was:
Meredith, Izzie, Cristina, George, Alex, Baley, Derek, Burke, Addison and the chief. TEN main characters. Now see this in comparison to what we have now:
Mer, Iz, Cris, George, Alex, Baley, Derek, the chief, Lexie (she's too hot to be killed though), Callie (SHE should be killed :P ), Mark, Owen and Arizona. Thirteen characters, 30% more than before, and this is not taking into account all the (frankly quite unwanted, from my part) attention to guests and recurring characters, and all the interns running around. There's just so much more going on, killing some of them may be a fine solution, but just make sure there's something to be gained...

You know, I gotta say something tho. If any of them dies and that becomes their exit from the show I'll be kinda disappointed. I mean, there are other ways for a character to leave then by dying. If the actor doesn't want to be on the show or if they're not wanted anymore, you can certainly write a storyline for him that doesn't involve death in the end. That kinda of character dismissal was what put me off ER. First there was Mark, right - he died of a brain tumor. Then there was Lucy, who was stabbed. After that came Romano, who, before dying when a HELICOPTER FELL ON TOP OF HIM, actually had his arm chopped out by a different chopper. Then there was Ray, who didn't die, but lost BOTH HIS LEGS when a bus hit him (which made him leave the show after that). That one was the bottom line for me. I mean, SERIOUSLY. I really hope Grey's doesn't go down the same path.

I think it is highly likely that neither of them are leaving the show, and that Shonda intentionally spread rumors to stir up controversy and ratings by way of reverse psychology. If she honestly thinks that killing off characters that have been with us since season one, characters that helped form the very base of the show even, is going to improve the show then I think she needs to pack it in and find a new job. Season 5 was iffy enough. If George and Izzie are truly gone I am convinced that Shonda has lost her vision for good storytelling.

Supposing he makes some miraculous recovery, he doesn't want to be at Seattle Grace anymore, he wants to join the army.. he's not noticed at that hospital anymore. Is he suddenly going to change his mind? If he survives but is a patient for many months we're just faced with the same Izzie-doctor-as-a-patient scenario that we've had all year. Don't get me wrong, I am desperate for him to survive, but I just don't think it's very likely because there is no place for him anymore. One more season would be good though, we can see him recover and then he can go live in the Bahamas or something.

Just read about Mr Dempsey's wish to do other things and only do one more season of GA. Well all the tv companies are cutting back on their productions, advertising revenue is down world wide. In other words the recession is affecting everyone, even those in lala land. He'll probably be persuaded to stay with a pay rise. I bet he earns more than Ellen cos he would regard himself as a film star. He'd form his own production company, but I think his fan base is for romcoms, not action hero stuff. So any mcdreamy fans, don't panic just yet. He has a job that has opened more doors for him, he's very lucky
First thing, can anyone give the link to PD's interview please?
As for PD's comments, all the cast is officially signed for seven seasons, meaning that after the seventh the cast has to renegotiate contracts and see if it's worth another set of seasons.
Patrick has said that he is happy to have a job and he does other things in the summer break. By far, he and Ellen are the best paid in the show (last time I heard they earned $250,000 per episode -around $6,000,000 for season 5, while KH earned $150,000/200,000 -not really sure). He is and knows he is very vital to Grey's so I wouldn't worry about this comments much. At least yet. He's not looking to get out of his contract, he hasn't expressed unhappiness about his job at Grey's. So far so good.
Although, after Derek's dark and twisty period, I wouldn't mind seeing PD in some other gendre like Drama. I'd like that :).
I love Grey's, I do love it but let's face it: it's no ER. I don't know if the show would function after season seven. The seasons are usually so charged with storylines that I hope that they end it on a high note and not on a bitter note with ridiculous storylines.

All 4 main tv networks will want to see TR and Kate H made to honor their contracts. For Shonda it would mean that any other restless actors would realise there is no get out clause, if signed for 7 seasons, you work for 7 seasons(if she wants). From a few snipets I've seen Pat Demp is very keen to do other things (see you tube)and to prove his worth as an actor outside romcoms. I'm not a fan of his, but he's fine as Der in GA. I'll find it hard to watch him in other things

If Izzie lives it will be a miracle. They can't have one of the docs suddenly find a cure for her cancer that no other medic in the world knows about, can they!!!!
no they can't. THEY CAN'T!!

I hope Kate is right. That would be amazing. A healthy Izzie.
And to Freddy, I'm also Dutch and a big Izzie fan.

The miracle cure would be Izzie, with a 5% survival chance. The good medicine would be saving George. It must be tempting to replace actors with ones who cost less per episode; but keep a character that can legitimately look different. George will have lots of rehabilitation storylines to conquer before going off to Iraq
