For Now, George and Izzie's Fate Remains a Mystery

Did Izzie and George die, or will they be back next season?

Shonda Rhimes obviously isn't saying, as we could have predicted. But she did offer this new, vague quote on the subject in a recent talk with TV Guide:

“We will definitely answer those questions in the fall. As with anyone you come to love, you don’t want to see them die, but it’s all part of the circle of life.”

Hmmm ...

Still, she allows, “there are some top-notch doctors at Seattle Grace and although there may not be miracles, there could be some good medicine.”

How do you interpret that one?

Hot, Bald Wife

Have we seen the last of Izzie Stevens at Seattle Grace?

While the potentially tragic demise of Izzie and George cast a pall over the Season 5 finale, things did end on a positive note for some Grey's Anatomy characters.

Christina and Hunt are on again, or at least heading that direction, Callie and Arizona are forging a deeper girlfriend-ship, and Der and Mer had a wedding - their way.

“I wanted you to feel happy for some people,” says the Grey's Anatomy creator and producer, noting that “Meredith, our dark and twisty girl, is whole and healed.”

Shonda's comments seem very two wayed..like usual i guess.

But the whole "circle of life" thing seems as though..a character we love has run their course on the show (george)..and like all good things..they must come to an end..

as for the "great medicine"..i think this is referring to izzie.

Sadly i think george will die. But on the up side, i think izzie is here to stay..atleast for another season :)

I believe that George will die and Izzie wont. At the end of the episode Izzy was still in the elevator and you could tell that she was wary about "leaving" life and entering death. As George was already out of the elevator, he was dead.
Just like in the episode where Merideth died for a while, it was all about exiting the door when they "really" died. Well I think that is what it was.
And the medicine I think is again talking about Izzie as she had some condition that could be cured if she could get resuscitated. But George was ready to leave the show anyway (the army) and now he just died through medical ways. Otherwise fans would be all like "WEHN SI EH CMOIGN BACKS!!1!11!"

I don´t think George is dead. I think he´s in this limbo, like Meredith was when she drowned, and almost died. Remember Derek saying "ok, let´s put him under"? So, imo, he´s not dead. He's unconsious (i have no idea how to spell that word), and he´s walking around at hospital limbo. Like Mer did. She walked a lot through the hospital... Untill one of them sees the light, and walks toward it, i´m not believing they are dead.

  4. Grey'sForever Says:

I go along with you carolina. Not going to believe that either is dead yet. I think and pray, George will get on the elevator and Izzie will push the down button and both will be back. George will have to go through intense therapy for his arm and Izzie will have all sorts of treatments. I am hoping that both pull through. I think Shonda's just messing with us a usual. Keep the tentions high for the first of the season.

  5. carolina Says:

I just remember something else... remember Shonda's last interview?? When asked with one of them (George and Izzie) lives and which one of them dies, she said (and I quote:

"Yes. And I don't know that you should be saying "which one of them lives and which one of them dies." I know what happens to the characters."

imo, if we´re not supposed to be saying "which one of them", it´s because both of them should live!

So I´ll keep saying to myself that none of them are dead. None of them are dead. Over and over again...

And the best part is, here in Brazil, next episode playing is "I´ll follow you into the dark". So we still have 8 episodes to the end of the season. I usually watch it online, no subtitles, at work. Or pretty much hear it, most of the times. So I´m still looking forward to seeing the next episodes, with portuguese subtitles, on cabe tv! \o/

If George lives, his arm will be fine. If you see the quotes from the episode, during his first surgery (still as John Doe):

    "Derek: How's the arm?
Mark: The nerves are still intact, I just have to reattach the vessels."

He doesn't have nerve damage, that would mean intense therapy or losing his arm funtion. Burke had problems because his nerves were affected, George's nerves are ok.

Now, he just needs to stay alive!

  7. adx Says:

I just hope that they both live to practice another day.

  8. Nina Says:

If one of them dies, it's gonna be hard for the one who lives.

I am ever grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating our George and our Izzie and for that final scene in the finale and all that it means. That being said, I feel that she is playing with us about their fates-- that is killing me!

I want them both to live. PERIOD.
and not one w/o the other-- I can't imagine either one of them surviving w/o the other, they are so interconnected.

    but

Above all, I want them both to live and to continue... and I hope for/wish for more of those magic George and Izzie scenes that make the show for me!

I hope it's the end for Izzie - her storyline was a little too all encompassing this year and it would make for interesting character development for Alex to process the grief of losing her. I do hope our George makes it and decides to be an amazing trauma surgeon at SGH.
