So we all pretty much think that Izzie lives and George dies.... She is shocked back to life and stays in the elevator and George dies on the table. Remember the soldier wanted the amputation and prosthesis. Watch the episode again and listen to ALL the dialogue and watch the George's face when the camera pans his way. He had PTS [sic] and is being fitted for the prosthesis, so he can go back to Iraq and serve his "real" family. George will undoubtedly have PTS [sic], a prosthetic arm, and will heroically continue to practice medicine and also go to IRAQ, sometime during season 6.
"Will they accept you back in the Army and in Iraq with the prosthesis?"
"Will Seattle Grace accept George as a surgeon with a prosthesis?"
"Will the army accept him in Iraq?"
Remember both the soldier and George's comments about not liking their family over here -George's brothers - very much. And the need to do something bigger in Iraq.
Shonda, in her brilliance, sprinkles clues throughout the episode for every thing that happens. Watch it again, then again, and you will get an parade of clues each time.

I have a couple of theories about the season finale and what will happen to izzie and george. The fact that george was already on the 'other side' of the elevator makes me think thats he's already dead. The shots at the end clearly show izzie being shocked, and as this is happening she seems to be looking at the buttons in the elevator. This ending leaves loads of room for changes to the cast. Potentially, if TRK doesn't renew his contract he will simply stay on the other side, if he does, maybe he'll goin izzie in the elevator? Again if KH doesn't renew her contract she'll step out of the elevator to join george, however if she is staying, she'll push a button and come back to life.
The problem with this is that if both die, the other 3 residents will be destroyed (particularly Alex), so surely they can't kill off both of them. However, with the story going the way it has, Izzie surely can't go into remission! George would take forever to be back to normal - and probably wont be able to be a surgeon again!
I have a theory now that Christina might join oncology - she hasn't done any cardio in ages!
All in all I think that one of them will be dead by the beginning of season 6, and one may die a little later!

* Will Lexie and Mark move in?
Can't see it this soon. They were nice together but it wouldn't kill me if they ended their relationship.
* Will Arizona be around next season?
Yes.
* Are Cristina and Owen officially a couple?
I think so. I love Owen but I still miss Burke... the show kinda became a little less without him.
* Where does a heartbroken Dr. Bailey go from here?
I want her to go back to general surgery. And date, definitely date. Her husband is an ass.
* The Meredith-Derek wedding - officiated by them, with hastily written vows on a Post-It note - was very touching and sweet. But was it the real deal?
I don't care either way. I got annoyed with the Meredith/Derek thing Season 3.
* Speaking of Meredith, as Ellen Pompeo's baby bump becomes more visible, is her pregnancy going to be written into the script, or will she go on leave?
I think she'll go on leave.
* If it's the latter, how will Meredith's absence be explained?
Dunno.
* Is this the most talked-about episode of Grey's Anatomy since the Season Two finale, which ironically ended with Izzie in the same prom dress?
Possibly.
* Is this ambiguity of the ending a deliberate cliffhanger written for that purpose, or the result of the producers' indecisiveness over whether George and Izzie will die - and/or Katherine and T.R.'s own willingness to return next fall?
Everyone keeps trying to predict the elevator etc and what it means but it could mean ANYTHING! Personally, I think the first episode of season 6 will be narrated by George- because I think he will live. I think T.R. will stay- no fake actors. I just can't see them getting rid of such a vital character. The show would suffer too much- heck the show suffered when they got rid of Burke! Though I do love Owen...
And as for Katherine Heigl... hard to say. I don't think it was ever "rumors" about her wanting to leave at one point- I read magazine interviews where she said she wanted to pursue more movie roles. She's only changing her mind because she's now getting more drama and screen time- she needs to know she can't always be the center of the show.
Izzie can go. It's sad... but they can deal not only with Alex's reactions... but what about her daughter??
George... there's more story options with him around. Especially with that girl who sees him as her Knight in Shining Armor. And by the way people- no one said he was dead, only that they were losing him. And his arm was not a bloody stump- Mark said his fingers were turning blue and that he needed to operate soon. His hand can be saved but I doubt he can operate ever again.

After reading in these comments about how George couldn't be a surgeon again because of his left arm or how his face is so beyond repair that a new actor could replace him I had to watch parts again.
There is nothing in the finale that makes me think George couldn't continue being a surgeon if he survives and once the swelling in his face goes down with a little help he will be fine. But he did enlist in the Army and may well end up alive, fine and still leave the show.

I do like Lexie too, but I am not convinced that they are ready to move in together. Grey's timeline is 1 RL year = roughly 3 or 4 months. They've been serious for what? 4 weeks... Moving in together? I don't think so.
I think a break-up could be fun between those two - with their petty little arguments week after week. Both characters are used largely for humour in their different ways. Then the writers can develop the two characters to have more chemistry and get back together.

Yes. I love Arizona! The way she told the Chief that she was going to cry because she was angry... that she was going to win... I love her. I am so glad that she has signed on. She may just be the new Izzie.

Yes. They will have a mighty stuggle ahead of them… more Drama for Shonda… very much a replacement for dark and twisty Mer/Der, who are suddenly hugs and bunnies.
* Where does a heartbroken Dr. Bailey go from here?
NOT THE CHIEF!!! She should dump the dumb-ass of a husband. She should be the strong Bailey that everyone loves. How awesome was it - Such a high - 'Santa!' and the lightsaber noises to the lows of bawling her eyes out in front of the Chief. Amazing!! I think when she showed DrCancer (don’t know her name, don’t care) and Callie the ‘Joy’ she realised what she was going to do.

* Speaking of Meredith, as Ellen Pompeo's baby bump becomes more visible, is her pregnancy going to be written into the script, or will she go on leave?
I don't necessarily believe that it is one or the other - Ellen HAS to take leave at some point, however I also believe that the timing is not right for Mer/Der and a McBaby... if there is a couple of months gap in filming, Meredith will suddenly be 4-5 (possibly 6) months pregnant after a week. (Although Bailey was pregnant for a total of 6 weeks or something?)
* If it's the latter, how will Meredith's absence be explained?
A Real Suspension?
Perhaps she gets into some program on the other side of the country, or the world that will make her an 'extraordinary' doctor... there has been an emphasis on her saying that she's not as good as her mother lately.
Maybe they will just shoot in advance, use props and close-ups, until the very last minute and have a few of those awful 3-week breaks from new episodes.
* Is this the most talked-about episode of Grey's Anatomy since the Season Two finale, which ironically ended with Izzie in the same prom dress?

I can't think other than a honeymoon why she wouldn't be there, and Der would need to go too. They are going to have to have her hiding behind desks, wearing her surgery gear etc.
Still can't see LexMa as a couple. I'm so glad that Lex has a career path, she's 24 and Mark is in his 40's, he's thinking of settling down, she's not.

Denny was on the other side of the elevator, just like George was. I think that George is going to go and it absolutely breaks my heart. He was on the other side. I cried for ages after that episode. I can't believe it. I love George, his character is fantastic and lovely.

i totally agree, Al(136). i love how Arizona's never afraid to fight for her and Callie's relationship, and how she's not afraid of the Chief. Also, she's just super cute and funny, and perfect for Callie. I really hope she becomes a season regular.

I really hope that George makes it. But i was really disappointed this season with his story line, no wonder he wants to leave, they gave him nothing. We all love George!!!

Maybe they could do a timeshift forward to explain the baby bump. Mer is so integral to the plot, it would be so strange not to have her there.
I am sorry that Bailey's marriage is finishing. I hope the writers keep her as a single working parent. This is the reality for many many people. I hope GA resists making everyone a couple, people who are single are becoming a larger proportion of many populations

I reckon mer will have the pregnancy.. but there will be some problem with the birth or late stage pregnancy that Addison will be called in to correct, but she will fail. Mer will survive but the baby wont. That way she can work through being heavily pregnant and her and derek could escape for a bit after the tragedy. maybe shell be in a hospital bed for a few episdes.. those scenes could be shot before her maternity leave and the rest after?
just my guesses.

Wobbit, I also think that they might do something similar to that.

Are Izzie and George going to be in the 6th season?
