Burning Grey's Anatomy Questions For Season Six

As Season Five of Grey's Anatomy faded to white, Izzie stood in her familiar prom dress, with George in his new Army uniform staring back at her in the elevator. The presumed afterlife encounter was the last we will see of either ... until September, at least.

We've discussed the events of last night in our episode recaps of "Here's to the Future" and "Now or Never," and you all have chimed in at great length with your opinions. We just can't help but wonder, in the aftermath, where our beloved show goes from here.

Here are some questions about George and Izzie - who, like them or not, the show and its fans are heavily invested in right now - and those who we know will be back, as we sift through the emotional wreckage of Thursday and prepare, patiently, for Season Six ...

  • Will Lexie and Mark move in?
  • Will Arizona be around next season?
  • Are Cristina and Owen officially a couple?
  • Where does a heartbroken Dr. Bailey go from here?

Future Shepherds

  • The Meredith-Derek wedding - officiated by them, with hastily written vows on a Post-It note - was very touching and sweet. But was it the real deal?
  • Speaking of Meredith, as Ellen Pompeo's baby bump becomes more visible, is her pregnancy going to be written into the script, or will she go on leave?
  • If it's the latter, how will Meredith's absence be explained?
  • Is this the most talked-about episode of Grey's Anatomy since the Season Two finale, which ironically ended with Izzie in the same prom dress?
  • Is this ambiguity of the ending a deliberate cliffhanger written for that purpose, or the result of the producers' indecisiveness over whether George and Izzie will die - and/or Katherine and T.R.'s own willingness to return next fall?

Tell us what you think about these lingering Grey's Anatomy issues or anything else you'd like to talk about as the show gears up for its sixth full season in September.

    1. I predict... well I was going to say yes, but now I'm not sure. I think that since everyone else in Grey's seems to be in a steady relationship, Mark and Lexie might go through a rough patch? But somehow I can't see them not being together! !

    2. Without a doubt!

    3.Without a doubt again :)

    4. She'll accept the Peds fellowship, divorce tucker, and maybe we'll get to see her date?

    5. I feel like emotionally it was, but I reallllllly want it to be legal! Meredith Shepherd!

    6. I think it'll get written in.. maybe. I don't know how much other drama will be going on, so maybe not.

    7. Definantly! Season 3 didn't end with a cliffhanger, and this was way more dramatic than last year!

    8. I think that the producers as well as the actors know if they're coming back or not. It's just to keep us wondering.

  2. someone Says:

Arizona will be back (unless the actress doesn't want it)- Shonda was very happy with her character (judging from the interview).

    Mer's pregnancy:
I personally doubt it will be written in. Chyler's pregnancy was handled well by the camera operators and if i didn't know she was pregnant, i wouldn't have guessed. The maternity leave poses a problem but maybe they are going to shoot most of the scenes with Mer while she's still pregnant and then she could make some short appearances during her maternity leave. (although i have no idea if it's possible for women to work on their maternity leave).
I just cannot really imagine how the medical drama, with doctors being so busy that they don't have even an hour to get married, would deal with a baby. We don't get much scenes with characters' relatives outside of the hospital. A baby would have to totally change the show.

  3. someone Says:

As for Mark and Lexie, I think it will take some time before they move in for a simple, technical reason: the writers need some drama! Christina and Owen finally decided to be together, Alex and Izzie (supposing she survives) love each other and are married, Mer and Derek are more happy then ever, Arizona and Callie are getting closer... So i guess not everything will go smoothly for everyone and Mark and Lexie's relationship will probably get a bit more dramatic.

And Bailey... What if she falls in love with the Chief?
That would be a great storyline:) I thought that after the scene in which she was crying in front of him. What do you think?

  4. greyslover Says:

Mark and Lexie will not move in together, yet! Arizona will still be around, Cristina and Owen will be an unofficial couple???, Bailey will divorce Tucker, become a Peds surgeon, and find a new love, poss. another single parent. Mer/Der will get married officially at some point, sweet and simple, but funny in some way, no baby yet. GA will concentrate on other characters til Ellen comes back. And finally, George and Izzie will both make it--we need our George and Izzie. All best case scenarios, of course. Worst case---don't want to go there. No more dark and twisty please.

  5. charla Says:

Although the wedding may be official to them....if something wsa to happen to one of them...it wouldnt stick in the court of law....maybe it would since this is TV.
the baby bump....who knows...that can tie in with the post it marriage in some way.

•Is this the most talked-about episode of Grey's Anatomy since the Season Two finale, which ironically ended with Izzie in the same prom dress? this is almost better....because the prom dress is starting to represent death or dying.....
I think they got it together....but Im hoping that they dont take away the hope people who have cancer and they are watching the show....you know how we have the tendency to compare our lives with what's on Tv....The way they would do that is by letting Izzie die...the other girl already died or was a veggie....so...that would look like no hope for those who have cancer no matter what....

Will Lexie and Mark move in?
    PLEASEEEE DO

Will Arizona be around next season?
hope so!! yeah. i mean, she's the cause of callie's financial problems, which as i suppose, are going to be an issue is season 6, so i guess she's worth it.

Are Cristina and Owen officially a couple?
soon to be?? on the good way!!

Where does a heartbroken Dr. Bailey go from here?
somebody bring bailey a sexy new doctor!!! PLEASE NO CHIEF. that would be soooo eww!! am i the only one who thinks she might be a nice couple with sam from private practice? (crossover episode!!) well...he's on a on-and-off with naomi so i suppose no. but it would be nice.

The Meredith-Derek wedding - officiated by them, with hastily written vows on a Post-It note - was very touching and sweet. But was it the real deal?
think it is. how long will they possibly delay it?~!

Speaking of Meredith, as Ellen Pompeo's baby bump becomes more visible, is her pregnancy going to be written into the script, or will she go on leave?
the show is about her, how could she leave??!! i agree with someone at that part: busy doctors and baby?

If it's the latter, how will Meredith's absence be explained?
    to ellis' grave?

Is this the most talked-about episode of Grey's Anatomy since the Season Two finale, which ironically ended with Izzie in the same prom dress?
    HELL YEAH

Is this ambiguity of the ending a deliberate cliffhanger written for that purpose, or the result of the producers' indecisiveness over whether George and Izzie will die - and/or Katherine and T.R.'s own willingness to return next fall?
katherine will ,i think. i mean:she´s married!! george: hope so. but HE MUST GET A GOOD STORYLINE!!!

soo...that were my thoughts on the questions.

    1. I sure hope so... Lexie totally 'fixed' Mark

    2. She better be!

    3. I'm pretty sure that since she said 'yes', then.. yes.

    4. She's strong. I'm glad she's divorcing him, she deserves better

    5. I'm guess they'll do something more official in S6, but it was cute and very... them

    6. Tbh it's too early in her career, maybe they will do a Chyler again

    7. No clue... maybe she will go on an impromptu honeymoon?

    8. Definitely. Season 3 was sad, with issues and dark and twistiness, Season 4 had all questions answered, this one was amazing, and for once, not based mainly around Merder. I love the couple, but the Gizze change was exciting

    9. Dude. They die... I will actually HATE Shonda. C'mon... please live! I think Izzie will live; but George will maybe not, because he is so disfigured, he won't be able to practice medicine anymore.

  8. anna_banana Says:

She washed her ashes down the Scrub Sink, remember? Haha grave in the sewers of Seattle :)

  9. Larissa Says:

Mark and Lexie, while very good together, still seem like the odd couple to me. He has gone out of his way to accommodate her feelings (such as getting beat up by Derek), and now she's feeling lukewarm about it? Arizona better be around. How awesome was "I like the girl who has the sandwiches" and standing up to the Chief? Cristina and Owen are my favorite couple, about time they made it official. Poor Bailey. But she's right. Marriage should not come down to ultimatums. Who you marry is the most important decision of your life!

For Mer and Der, legalizing a marriage is the easiest part of it. They are, for their purposes, married. Neither seems the type who needs the piece of paper to make it official. I'm not overly concerned about Ellen Pompeo's baby bump. She's older than people realize and if she wanted to have a baby she needed to. So good for her, and don't let a TV show dictate when you have children. I think they'll find a way to make it work, even if she's doing much less screen time for a couple months.

Yes, this is going to be one of the most talked about ) was episodes. I think the ambiguity (while mean to the fans) is a good thing. It has been expressed that they may regrets killing off Denny like they did, and this gives them some time to decide if they REALLY want to kill off Izzie and George, while judging fan reaction to what they've done. With Denny, it was too late. It was done. However, that being said, I don't think she should bring either of them back. I gasped, cried, etc. during the episode when everything fell apart, but let's be realistic.

Izzie: has stage 4 metastatic melanoma that has spread to her vital organs. After IL2, chemo, two major brain surgeries, she codes in her husband's arms to wake up with full complete memory, no tumors, no cancer and everything is fine? That's not even close to realistic. Not even a little. Not to mention that even if she does wake up, and soemthing is horribly wrong, the Chief ignored her DNR papers.

George: No left arm, right side of his body crushed (including his skull). Aware of who is he and what is happening to him, he would still have months if not years of recovery ahead of him ... and being a doctor is not likely an option because he is missing his left arm.

So we have a show about doctors, with two who can't be doctors? :(

Are u guys insane!OF COURSE Ellen Pompeo pregnancy will be wriiten in!how are they going to explain the absence of the shows main character? and you can already tell shes pregnant if they werent writing it in they would not have showed her the way they did on the finale you could tell,so much that i thought that she was going to announce it last night!it almost feels like she did already because its so noticable!and it doesnt make a difference how early it is,its meredith do you honesyly think it would be planned!
