Kaley Cuoco Guest Role Given to Shannon Lucio Instead

As we reported last week, the lovely Kaley Cuoco was set to guest star on Grey's Anatomy, only to suddenly disappear from the cast a few days ago.

Well, EW has cracked the case of the mysterious vanishing guest star.

Although the actress' rep says an unforeseen "publicity commitment" forced The Big Bang Theory star to back out of a top-secret appearance on Grey's Anatomy's May 14 season finale, multiple sources say it was her current employer, CBS, that nixed the deal.

An CBS spokesperson couldn't be reached for comment, but one insider explains, "They didn't want one of their biggest stars appearing on one of ABC's biggest shows."

Greys guests

As a result, Grey's Anatomy has instead tapped former OC starlet Shannon Lucio (she played Caleb's illegitimate daughter, Lindsay) to fill Kaley Cuoco's shoes.

Still unknown: Who the heck is she playing?

Some speculated that, based on Cuoco's resemblance to Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl, perhaps the character is a relative of Izzie Stevens.

That possibility may be less likely with the casting of Lucio... or is it?

Private Practice Episode Guide: "What You Do For Love"

After a terrific Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice returned last night and did not disappoint. By request, we'll post a link to our sister site's episode guide each week!

Pete decided to break things off with Lisa (Idina Menzel, wife of co-star Taye Diggs, below), for an uncertain future with Violet. But Sheldon also proposed to Violet.

Naomi was wooed away from Oceanside, Cooper was his typical Cooper self, Dell was down in the dumps, and Addison's chemistry with Noah continued to grow.

Classic Scenes From "Sweet Surrender"

Last night's Grey's Anatomy sure had its share of memorable scenes.

In the first, Izzie pretends nothing is wrong with her, but we know better ... and so does she, because when her friends leave, you can see the toll chemo is taking on her.

We just hope our girl can pull through this somehow, some way ...

Follow the jump for another powerful and slightly disturbing scene from last night, in which Alex and George search for the missing psych patient, bickering at each other.

They definitely find him at the end, though not how they hoped ...

Grey's Anatomy Writer Thoughts on "Sweet Surrender"

The Grey's Anatomy writer who authored last night's episode, Sonay Washington, posted some thoughts on "Sweet Surrender" on the show's official writers' blog.

Below are some excerpts describing how things together, with the reactions from the writer who penned them, and a link to the full column at the bottom ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, too much is going on in this episode. TOO MUCH! People are throwing themselves out of windows, planning weddings, eating food by the barrels ... And friendships are mended, a child dies and a daughter disowns her father. Okay, there’s a lot to discuss here, so let’s go.
Izzie is dying. That really hit home for me after seeing her collapse. I remember discussing this story in the writers’ room and Shonda saying “Izzie collapses. This is the turning point. She gets really, really sick.” And I said “WHAT????? Izzie collapses? MY Izzie collapses???”
Seriously, it’s heartbreaking to see Izzie this way. When Izzie fake codes and makes Meredith try on ugly wedding dresses, we get the sense that Izzie’s going to be okay - that the chemo won’t affect her. And Izzie believes that too.
Fake Coding
She fights to maintain who she is throughout the day until her body betrays her.
When Izzie vomits, this disease becomes real to her. But what we also see is the beginning of a true friendship between Cristina and Izzie. It took a lot for Izzie to admit that she’s sick to Cristina.
That the cancer is winning. And Cristina is there for her. She’s there to wipe her brow and to help Mer with her stupid wedding dresses. And it’s for Izzie. Cristina is there for Izzie.
And if anything comes out of this tragedy, it’s their friendship.
Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: 100th Episode, Season Finale & More
How much time has passed between the elevator proposal and tonight's all-new episode of Grey's Anatomy? What's the deal with Thatcher Grey's return? Will Meredith become pregnant now that Ellen Pompeo is? Will Denny be back yet again?
Michael Ausiello of EW has the scoop on all of this and more.
Let's let him take it away - and post comments below!
Q: Can you give us something juicy on Meredith and Derek?
A: Okay, here's something: A longtime Grey's Anatomy duo are about to break up - presumably for good - and it's not Derek and Meredith. Nope. It's Bailey and Tucker!
In the upcoming Season Five finale (Thursday, May 14), Bailey takes the bold step of leaving her husband after he once again fails to support her career.
Q: Can you tell us how much time has lapsed between the elevator proposal episode of Grey's Anatomy and the episode that airs this week?
A: A few days, I believe. It's not long at all.
Mer, Lexie and Thatcher
Q: Any scoop on the anticipated Thatcher Grey return on Grey's Anatomy next week? I'm hoping for some overdue Meredith and Lexie scenes!
A: Two of my favorite Mer-Lexie scenes ever take place in next week's episode, but it's more a result of the thorny Derek-Mark situation than Thatcher's return.
More Grey's Anatomy Spoilers, News & Gossip
Grey's Anatomy is back this evening and with but four weeks (and five episodes, if you count the two-hour season finale) to go, many questions remain as to how everything will play out with our favorite characters at Seattle Grace this spring.
Here's what Zap2it's Korbi Ghosh has to say about things in her Q&A. Most of these Grey's Anatomy spoilers aren't exactly breaking news, but it's still a fun read ...
Q: Do you have any non-relationship or Izzie's-dying-from-cancer scoop?
A:  In an upcoming episode, Meredith will cross a line with a patient, which could threaten her job at Seattle Grace. The Chief says he'll fire her if she doesn't stay away from this case.
George and Mer
Q: Will we be seeing more George? I miss him.
A: We'll be seeing a lot more George in the next couple episodes. In fact, I'm pretty sure there's more George screen time in the next two episodes than we've had all season. And he's back to being the O'Malley we used to know: a kick ass surgeon. So that's cool.
Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Calzona, MerDer & Much More!
Our favorite show is finally back on the air with a new episode this Thursday and as a result, Grey's Anatomy spoilers abound in E! Online's weekly spoiler Q&A session.
Are Cristina and Owen done? What's the latest on MerDer? How is Izzie doing? Will we see anything new with Callie and Arizona? Without further ado, here goes:
Q: Please tell me more about Meredith and Derek on Grey's Anatomy!
A: Thatcher Grey is not in the hospital because his oldest daughter is getting married. He wants to make amends: He's been sober, and he's working on his steps.
Q: Please give us something about Callie and Arizona on Grey's Anatomy. They have had so little airtime, and we want to know about their relationship. Please tell me there's more to come.
A: Arizona meets Callie's dad (played by guest star Hector Elizondo) in Thursday's episode, and he doesn't take the news of their relationship terribly well. In fact, when Callie's dad tries to get her to move home and she refuses, he cuts off her trust fund.
Mr. TorresDr. Robbins
Q: How's Izzie doing on Grey's Anatomy?
A: As it turns out, cancer is really, really painful. Sigh. Poor Izz.
Q: Any news on when Cristina and Owen will reunite on Grey's Anatomy?
A: Unfortunately not anytime soon. Owen doesn't have time for Cristina anymore (what with his newfound interest in turning George into a trauma surgeon). Actually, to be more specific, Owen's therapist doesn't let Owen have time for her.
Yep, Owen's shrink has given him a specific list of three-word sentences he can say to Yang, but "I love you" is not one of them. Either way, Cristina is not a happy camper.
Q: Got any more Grey's Anatomy scoop?
A: Yes, and it comes from Kellie Martin of ER and Life Goes On fame. Kelly pops up on the small screen in May on both Ghost Whisperer and Grey's Anatomy.
"On Ghost Whisperer, I play a director of a soap opera, and I'm being haunted," Kellie says. "And on Grey's Anatomy, all I can say is that I don't play a patient, and I don't play a doctor. We have to respect the Grey's Anatomy cone of silence. They're very secretive. It's not integral to the crazy rumors going around right now, though."
