Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Owen Reenlisting?

Are Cristina and Owen over for good after last week's amazing episode, or is there a chance the couple may find itself back together despite the increasingly difficult odds?

According to E! Online's spoiler Q&A, the Grey's Anatomy fifth season finale features two characters at a military recruiting office. That's an intriguing development.

Is Owen leaving Cristina and Seattle Grace for another enlistment in the U.S. Army?! Could it instead be George leaving Seattle, with Owen with him there for support?

Share your theories on this Grey's Anatomy spoiler below!

Maj. Dr. Owen Hunt

Katherine Heigl Quiet on Future; MerDer Wedding is May 7

Despite ongoing reports that she wanted out of her Grey's Anatomy contract and that she was being killed off the show, Katherine Heigl said she wants to stay on the medical drama if her character, Izzie, survives brain surgery.

"I was assuming that [Izzie would die] at one point, and all I got were a lot of shrugged shoulders and shakes of the head, so I don't know if that's a yes or a no," she told the Associated Press Friday at a party celebrating the show's 100th episode.

"No one will tell me and I don't know how this is going to go."

Katherine Heigl noted that the decision rests solely with the show and series creator Shonda Rhimes, who is known to value plot secrecy.

"I don't know if I live or die," Heigl said. "I don't know how Izzie fares."

Dr. Izzie Stevens has metastatic melanoma - skin cancer - that spread to her brain, giving her only a five percent chance of survival, a story the show has built up for months courtesy of her visions of her late fiance, Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

On Thursday's episode, "Elevator Love Letter," she survived brain surgery.

Sticking Around After All?

Still, Heigl said, "I'm there" if Izzie remains part of Grey's Anatomy, for which she has starred since it debuted on ABC in March 2005. She called the set "one of my favorite places to be" and said her colleagues are also some of her best friends.

Rhimes, who is also an executive producer, declined to comment on what will happen to Heigl's character, but she did reveal a clue about the 100th episode, airing May 7.

"The only thing I'll tell you about the 100th is that it takes place on Meredith [Ellen Pompeo] and Derek's [Patrick Dempsey] wedding day," Rhimes said.

"That's big ... and that's all I'm going to say."

Well, guess we're no longer in the dark about that.

Katherine Heigl, who some thought was wanting to be released from the show to focus on her movie career (Knocked Up, 27 Dresses), said she's comfortable balancing film and TV work by taking on big-screen projects during the summer hiatus.

"I'm more than happy to make that compromise," Heigl said. "As my agent likes to say, 'High-class problems.' I don't know if I want to continue for five years working 12 months a year, but I can take at least another year or two."

Grey's Anatomy Recap, Photos, Quotes, Music & More!

Bittersweet is perhaps the best way to describe this great episode of Grey's Anatomy, with one of the show's most wonderful scenes in years coinciding with two incredibly sad (though no less powerful, as all the actors were brilliant) story lines at the end.

He didn't ask, and she didn't answer, but Derek's "Elevator Love Letter" to Meredith left no doubt that they will be together forever. What a wonderful, touching moment.

Cristina and Owen consummated finally their relationship just as they realized they couldn't be together, and Izzie's ailing state left both her and Alex in shambles.

Classic Grey's Anatomy: "Elevator Love Letter" Moments

Like all episodes, last night's Grey's Anatomy had its share of great scenes. But a few moments really stood out in our minds, and are worth reliving a second (and third) time.

What else would be the first one? Here's the most romantic proposal ever, with Derek having constructed a personal Meredith Grey Hall of Fame in the elevator (where else).

There were no questions asked or answers, just proclamations of love ...

Follow the jump for another powerful scene, albeit a much sadder one, in which Alex laments Izzie's condition and what it means for their future, if they even have one.

All Meredith can do is listen as he pours his heart out to her...

Writer Reactions to "Elevator Love Letter"

The Grey's Anatomy writer who authored last night's episode, Stacy McKee, has posted some of her thoughts on "Elevator Love Letter" on the show's official writers' blog.

Below are some excerpts describing how the events came together, with the reactions from the woman who penned them, and a link to the full column at the bottom ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just so you know, I am a sap when it comes to marriage proposal stories. I love them. I love hearing them, I love telling them. I fully enjoy all the cheesy romantic oooey gooey-ness.
I LOVE that Derek proposed! I LOVE that Meredith said yes!
I can’t help it. I’m just cheesy that way.
But first things first. Entirely too much happened in this episode. TOO MUCH. Owen went all PTSD and choked Cristina in his sleep then she forgave him and they had ridiculously beautiful sex until she realized she had to dump him after all.
Alex snooched (yes, you heard me right. Snooched.) into a cup for Izzie so her eggs could be extracted, fertilized, and frozen before her body gets all sick with radiation and chemo.
Scruffy, Dreamy
Derek finally came back from the woods looking all Grisly Adams-ish to operate on Izzie’s brain and – and then, there’s that elevator.
Where Derek Shepherd proposed to Meredith, and she said YES.
Yup. Too much happened in this episode. I’m overwhelmed. I don’t know what to talk about first.
Let’s start with the unpleasant part. Owen. And the choking. This was a tricky one. Let’s be clear. This is not a guy attacking a woman because he’s a guy who attacks women.
We did not set out to tell a story about domestic abuse. This is a story about PTSD.
Owen is completely asleep when he attacks Cristina. Asleep, in a nightmare. Remember the story we did earlier this season about the guy with night terrors? Same thing.
Discuss "Elevator Love Letter" in our Grey's Anatomy Forum!
Is tonight the night?
The night when Derek and Meredith finally, after four years of love, drama, heartbreak and intimate moments, officially decide they want to spend their lives together?
It would be fitting if this happened in tonight's episode, "Elevator Love Letter."
Grey's Anatomy premiered March 27, 2005. If fans could celebrate a MerDer engagement tomorrow morning - four years to the day their love was born - well, it would be perfect.
Derek has to actually come through, though, and his first couple of attempts at popping the question haven't exactly gone well. Can he pull the trigger tonight?
Check out the spoilers, photos and previews we've posted for a primer of "Elevator Love Letter," which also includes the major story of Izzie becoming a patient at Seattle Grace.
Can her friends band together to save her, or is a tragic season finale ahead?
Three Sneak Previews of "Elevator Love Letter"
Wow.
The intense scene from tonight's episode (below), in which Owen succumbs to a bout of combat-stress-induced rage and starts attacking Cristina, cannot be described as "great" because it's so scary, but the performances by the actors are really striking. See for yourself:
Terrifying scene, but so well done. Thoughts? Reactions? Analysis?
Follow the jump for two more sneak peeks from "Elevator Love Letter" - Derek's proposal not going as he planned (again), and McDreamy talking with Owen about getting help for his PTSD. We also posted the first sneak preview from earlier in the week again below ...
