@Babsy: No reason to get snappy here. I just don't think there's anything "textbook neuro" about having visual, auditory and tactile hallucinations at the same time, with no other apparent symptoms. Sounds more like psych, but even then it's not very typical of anything in particular.
Sorry, I'm gonna snap out of my little school bubble now :D

latent neurosyphilis from when there was a syphilis scare at seattle grace!!!! that gives you psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, poor concentration, visual distubances (remember when she couldnt grab the thing alex was handing her?) - if she has any weird muscle things in the future (her reflexes are off) then it may be it!

then again, it would have come up in the first blood tests.... hmmm
norvegienne--
but the hallucinations were not her only symptom. Visual disturbance-- like when she couldn't grab the thing alex was handing her, as kk just mentioned, motor impairment-- her hands were shaking-- and remember when she couldn't find the scissors, but they were right in front of her?
From the sounds of it, with a high LDH level, a dark nodule that was removed and evaluated by a dermatologist, and neuro symptoms, she probably has malignant melanoma with brain metastases. A high LDH level and neuro finding would indicate the worst prognosis, 6-12 months to live with a 10% 5 year survival rate. The first step is to get a chest x-ray after initial diagnosis with a melanoma, so it fits the storyline for this next week.
I think that whole show should be in the elevator! Aerosmith song "Love in the Elevator!"

The song "elevator love letter" by the Canadian band Stars is actually a sadly beautiful song.
Knowing this song so well, it would seem to fit Izzie and Alex's relationship better. But then, does Shonda actually listen to the songs before choosing them as titles? IF she does though, it's certainly not a clue to a proposal as the song is not about true love, which i think we can all agree that Meredith and Derek have.
Below are the lyrics.
I'm so hard for a rich girl
My heels are high, my eyes cast low
And I don't know how to love
I get so tired after midday, lately
I take it out on my good friends
But the worst stays in, or where would I begin?
My office glows all night long
Its a nuclear show, and the stars are gone
Elevator, Elevator, take me home
I'm so hot for the rich girl
Her heels so high, and my hopes so low
'Cause I don't know how to love
I'll take her home after midnight
And if she likes, I'll tell her lies
How we'll be in love by the morning
I don't think she knows
That I'm saying good bye
My office glows all night long
Its a nuclear show, and the stars are gone
Elevator, Elevator, take me home
My office glows all night long
Its a nuclear show, and the stars are gone
Elevator, Elevator, take me home
Don't go, say you'll stay
Spend a lazy Sunday
In my arms, I won't take
Anything away
Don't go, say you'll stay
Spend a lazy Sunday
In my arms, don't take
Anything away

The rarfume is very special and expensive. Rumors say that miliarder wife Irina Abramova uses it.
It will be funny if Meredith get flacon after MerDEr break because of Melisa.
greysaddiction: I really think that Mer/Der will be fine. I am still holding out for at least a proposal if not a surprise wedding! I just can't imagine Shonda dangling that engagement ring in front of us Mer/Der fans for a couple of episodes and everyone talking about it in the hospital and then just not let it happen! That would be so cruel, don't you think? I'm thinking the next couple of episodes will be hard for Derek but I feel like Mer will be there for him and he is going to realize more than ever how much he loves Mer and that she loves him. I'm looking forward to seeing them together and working this out as a couple. I also think the name of the episode coming up called "Elevator Love Letter" is a great sign for Mer/Der fans. I think I also read recently from somebody like Auseillo that this was something good for Mer/Der fans, or something like that. I think that there will be a proposal like you said either in the elevator or maybe even a letter that Derek has written to Mer and he reads it to her in the elevator ( he wrote Addi a song, so he writes Mer a letter)or one of them finds a note to meet at Joe's in the elevator and thats where the proposal takes place.
As far as the comment from the writer, I think that was to mislead us Mer/Der fans. "Its not going where you think".....I think it will be a positive thing, not a negative thing. Most of us read that has being something bad and thats probably what they thought we would think. Again, trying to be positive here, I tend to believe it a good thing! Lets hope so. March 12th can't get here fast enough! Can't wait for a sneak peek or even a preview. Hopefully, we'll get something soon......Kathy
he'll definitly propose in the elevator. It will be awesome! Some of the beswt scenes are in the elevator anyway. Maybe Izzie has another tumor somewhere else? Or maybe even an anuerysm?
I don't think 'Elevator Love Letter' just refers to Meredith and Derek.... What about Izzie and Alex? Derek and Mark? Callie and Arizona? The Chief and Bailey? Lots of different types of love out there - romantic, friendship, fellow colleague... Just a thought.
I also think the theories of ocular or some type of malignant melanoma could be the diagnosis for Izzie.
As for that cryptic comment "It's not going where you think..." with respect to Meredith and Derek's relationship/proposal, maybe Meredith is the one that writes Derek a love song and tells him she's not going anywhere, while he is the one pushing her away? Another thought, maybe it's not Meredith that gets Derek through his meltdown (even though she's there for him). Maybe it's Izzie?

I love the merder relationship and it would be awsome if she does help him throuh this rough time. God knows that she should cause he has been there for her. But maybe Derrick and Mark patch up there friendship and Mark is the one that helps him heal. I wish they hadn't fought, but I knew it was going to happen. When Derrick found out about Mark and Iittle Grey. There has been spoilers about someone being pregnant and Cheryl is really pregnant, so I think that she is probably going to be pregnant with Marks baby.

It's obvious to me it is stage 4 melanoma, mets to brain and lungs if the xrays shown at the end of the last episode are Izzie's, they showed multiple densities in the lungs, and the neuro symptoms are just beefed up a little bit for the sake of drama. This is a great opportunity to educate the public about how insidious a malignant melanoma (a simple mole)can be. The character of Izzie is out of here for sure, and if the show has any integrity to real medicine then they will not let the character survive beyond 3 to six months, certainly not functioning in the hospital.
MKathy--
Thank you!!! I needed the sunny side up on that writer's comment so bad!!! I really think you're right, but that comment made me so worried!!! I agree-- even Shonda couldn't dangle this in front of the fans for too long and not give it to us-- she knows how wary MerDer fans got last season and what that meant for the show. I've gotta remember too that PD said that MerDer will finally be together. Period. No more breaking up, right? Thanks for redirecting me right back to the positive MerDer direction!
bunnysue-- I was thinking some type of malignant melanoma too. And, yes, I have encountered stage 4 malignant melanoma in someone relatively close to me. I know the prognosis. It's next to impossible. But not impossible. And there are new clinical trials for new treatments all the time. Medicine is constantly advancing and the human body can sometimes surprise even the most brilliant doctors!
All I can say is, she'd better survive beyond 3 to 6 mos!!!!
Again, another thing to back up that this is the diagnosis-- I read a spoiler way back that said that all the docs would be working hard for Izzie. Metastatic melanoma with multiple growths within other organs and in her lymphatic system would require more than just a neurosurgeon. Many other surgeons would need to be involved, as well. This would be a very literal interpretation of that spoiler-- fits very well.
Some of my Uni lecturers are working on 'Dendritic Cell Immunotherapy For Stage IV Melanoma'. They even had patients in complete remission, it would be "awesome" if that was what was wrong with her and that is what "cure" they used hehehee
