I accidently posted without finishing my last thought.
So anyway, Derek has issues and now is not a good time to propose. I actually buy that. Burke proposed while he was having issues (or right after those issues were addressed) and so did George and look where that got them. I think they both need to be on somewhat solid ground before any kind of proposal happens. That being said, I hope that the place where I didn't originally think it was going is Meredith learning how to be the solid one in the relationship. Obviously, Derek is really messed up right now and needs someone to lean on (which will probably be exacerbated after the deposition). He's going to have to regain his footing and Meredith is going to have to figure out how to be supportive and help get him back on track.
I'm thinking that the best case scenario is that Meredith is being supportive while trying to get him back on track.

I remember that they said a proposal would happen this season... my guess is, it's going to be someone unexpected. I could see Alex and Izzie getting married because Izzie is in such dire straights. And the Alex/Izzie thing has gotten so great lately... I just think that's a possibility.
As for Derek quitting, I think it adds and interesting dynamic. Derek was a bit of a mystery since season 1, his character was always a little bit less fleshed out on screen than the others. I'd like to see the depths of Dr. Shepherd's soul. :P

You're right. At the very least, Ausiello said there was a possible proposal later this season. Who it is, I have no idea at this point. If it is Meredith and Derek, I have to wonder if whomever gets the question popped to them will say yes, because the odd seasons seem to have bad outcomes for Meredith and Derek (Season 1-Addison shows up, Season 3-Meredith say's "It's so over" before they "break up").
I too would like to see some McDreamy character building. He's obviously got some issues and I'd like to see them worked out a bit more.

as far as proposals go, I'm thinking a little owen/christina action??? did anyone even watch the last show and hear what he said? he "wants" to be around in 40 years to pull the knife out of her hand... he wants her. i'm thinking they might give her character some new lovin after what they had to do with Burke's character. but then again, that's just me...

personally I think that Derek will quit but then the revealtion of what is wrong with Izzie, which will no doubt be Neuro, will bring him back so that he can try to save his colleauge and Mer's friend. If this surgery was a success it would then pave the way for him taking his job back...
Marianne Says:

Yeah, I think Derek will just quit for a short time. Who knows what he'll do, but I'm sure it will lead to a storyline of Meredith talking to Cristina about him, and maybe him moping around.

ok derek quitting? i don't think that's gonna be a forever thing either. and i do think mer will be the one to get him back on track, help him through, get him to see the sunshine again. and then he'll propose and she'll say yes, and they'll live happy and forever in their little dream house of candles. at least, that's what i want to happen. but i'm guessing that there'll be no proposal from either this season. but you know? i'm beginning to think that as long as they don't split this season and make it like a full 2 seasons together, then the viewers will be at least a little happy.
i'm loving the owen/cristina wedding idea, but i think that would be a little too fast for shonda and the writing staff. we may love it, but it's only been half a season soooo i doubt that. the izzie/alex thing is far more likely. i hope she isn't dying, and then again, if she's leaving, then they might not. who knows.
and you know, i'm thinking that derek may just consider quitting and then not because of the whole izzie thing. cuz didn't they say we'd finally find out what's wrong with her on the 12th? and they're saying derek will quit on the 12th. so he may say he quits, finds out that he's the only one who can save izzie, and come back the very next week. and despite how old izzie's crap is, it will make it interesting and exciting if derek's fate is tied to it, right? we'll see!!!!
First thing, I LOOOOVE that picture. He looks good :D
I honestly think that Derek might quit but the Chief isn't going to take his resignation. He'll give him time off, maybe a sabbatical for him to get his act together and I bet that his coming back is to rescue Izzie from whatever brain tumor/aneurism/schizophrenia that she has.
I think it'll be good to see a different side of McDreamy. Maybe Mer should take some time off with him and take some trip somewhere. That'd be nice.
I don't think that Owen and Cristina are the wedding at the end of the season. If someone is more screwed up than Derek is, it's Owen. He has clearly PTSD and he needs to get his act together, for his sake...and Cristina's.

Remember the days back when Shonda claimed she hated spoilers? Seems like they can't tell us early enough in advance anymore what's going to be on the show. It's like if they say it enough times- Denny WAS a great plot twist, Izzie's story DOES make sense, George WILL get screen time- they can make us believe it. Even the writer's blog seems to do that; convince us it's a great plot line rather than letting us decide ourselves by making a good show. Got to warn the viewers in advance or they won't stay with the show. It's a pity. It's been getting better in all aspects- this is the best season since season 2- except for the fact it's become so predictable.

Derek won't be gone for long, that much is obvious. And Meredith will be there for him, which i know and am happy about. Meredith has grown considerably.
And i'm unsure that Meredith would propose. Even though she built a house of candles, i think she is still very scared and insecure about their relationship, even if it has been a couple months into it. And though she seems to becoming less scared and more comfortable with it, i don't think she is at the point where she would propose. Although it would be awesome to see, that's for sure.
And if she actually does, then in these last episodes of the season, she will be growing a lot.
Even though Patrick Dempsey would never quit, if he did, i would and i'm sure may other would stop watching the show. I mean, come on...Grey's anatomy isn't Grey's anatomy without Meredith and Derek. They make the show what it is.

I don't care who proposes to who as long as it happens. As long as there is also a yes involved I will be a happy camper:)

Doubt it very much that Derek would quit SGH. Meredith will come out with something to convince him to stay and also the chief. He'll probably come out with one of those "Your the best neurosurgoen a hospital can ever get." something like that. Mmm. I am guessing that Derek would propose to her at the end of the season, would be romantic. Hmmmm. And i think that Derek and Mark would forgive each other as well. Hope all turns out good.

I think Meredith proposing would be really cute...but I have a feeling that if Izzy finds out she is going to die, Alex and Izzy will get married (didn't Shonda say at some point that there will be a beautiful wedding this season but it's not who we'd expect?). I don't know why, but I have always thought a pregnancy would come before marriage for Mer and Der...
I really just want the proposal to hurry up though! Him holding onto that ring is driving me mad!
