Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: George's Exit Strategy That Wasn't

EW's Michael Ausiello shoots down one Grey's Anatomy fan's wishful thinking about an old face coming back to Seattle, then dishes on a story line for T.R. Knight's exit that was reportedly considered but ultimately decided against, in his spoiler Q&A session today ...

Q: Now that it seems likely that Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight are leaving Grey's Anatomy, does this mean there's any chance Isaiah Washington could return as Burke?

A: Listen up, 'cause I'm only going to tell you this once: Um, no. But while we're on the subject of the looming mass exodus at Seattle Grace, a little birdie at Grey's Anatomy confided to me that Shonda Rhimes briefly flirted with the idea of having George develop a sudden interest in Dr. Hunt's background as an army doc. You thinking what I'm thinking? 'Cause I'm thinking what better way to get rid of George than to have him join the military and go off to Iraq. It'd be perfect, right? Only trouble is, a Grey's Anatomy insider tells me that story has been scrapped and replaced with "something even better." I'm not sure what that something is, but I have a call into my new BFF James Pickens, Jr. to find out!

Captain PassiveOwen Hunt

One exit strategy T.R. Knight apparently involved his character, Dr. George O'Malley, following in the Army footsteps of Maj. Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd). ABC decided against this.

After they kicked Isiah Washington off the show, its been truly down hill. T.R. seems out of place and I don't know if after so many episodes if can he bounce back into a substantial role. And as far as Izzy dying it might be the single most interesting thing that has happened on the show since Meredith almost drowned herself.

r u kidding george was 007 in season 1 and now is confident and a good doctor, bailey only trusted him to write the recommendation letter, in season 1 first episode she called him a puppy!

omg how can u say that? katie bringing owen with her?! what good would tht do?! hes amazing!

  4. dimples61 Says:

Heigl wants to leave. She wants to make more movies. Miss Rhimes says that Izzy isn't being killed off the show. But every site that has anythng to do with Grey's says that she is leaving. Personally I don't care if she does leave and hopefully takes George, Owen and Denny with her.

  5. K Says:

George and Izze shouldn't leave, especially izze, the 5 original interns should stay.
I miss the old days and I agree that they should get stronger stories. but leaving !!!
I can't watch it without them.

  6. Amanda Says:

George and Lizzy can't leave... the original five have to stay!!

I do agree that they need to give them both a stronger story line, especially George. But honestly, who really has the "strong" story line right now == nobody!! They've got too much going on "sort of" everywhere right now.

  7. fan of the show Says:

ABC acted as military comission. They don't want gays in army.
Since the character of T.R.Knight is not a gay he could be allowed to join the army.

  8. Meri Says:

Oh my god. I love Georgie. I knew he was leaving, but i wish he wouldn't :( What sucks even more is that Katherine Heigl is leaving too. I hope this is a rumor. Grey's anatomy is not Grey's anatomy without Izzie! I mean we have argghh Christina and "gray" Merideth, and cyncial Alex so we have to have overly optimistic Izzie. theres no balance without izzie! and i liked the story of the FIVE ORIGINAL INTERNS! Christina, George, Merideth, Izzie & Alex. i want them to stay!!!!!

i miss the good old days.

  9. !greys Says:

maybe if george and izzie both leave we'll get a gizzie reunion ! :), just a thought.

  10. !greys Says:

i doubt BOTH of them are leaving, i do think T.R. is, but not katie...that would damage this show real hard. but i thought about how they could make a season six if the two did leave, so alex wouldn't be so depressed... they could jump in like five years in the future or something?
