Awesome scene alert! It's a clash of the titans as Miranda takes on Derek in the middle of his surgery in next week's all-new Grey's Anatomy, "Stairway to Heaven."
What's great about this show is that there are so many characters (with some great actors driving them), we don't always get to see how they will react when pitted against one another, and the results can be both unpredictable and intense. Like this particular scene.
As he operates, Miranda bursts in and asks Derek to stop trying to save William Dunn (the death row inmate), who's been trying to kill himself as we saw at the conclusion of "Sympathy For the Devil" so he can die naturally and his young, fellow patient can have his liver.
If he's executed by the state, as is scheduled for five days from now, they can't harvest his organs right now. Derek defiantly holds his ground. Who will win this standoff Thursday?

I think the PDR-patient deserves to die after what he did, but he's gonna die anyway. He doesn't feel anyhting(I'm not completely sure but I think so) if he's executed by getting an injection. So what's the difference between that and dying at the hospital? Why waste his organs if he's gonna die anyway? Just let him do one good thing before he dies, even though he might do it just because he wants to escape the execution. But he can actually save a boy here. And isn't the boys life worth more? You people who don't agree with me, don't take offence or anything, this is just my opinion.

I agree with johanna. why can't derek let him save the little boy before he dies? He wants to save someone after killing five other people before he dies. i think they should let him.
Also, there is really good acting in this scene! i can't wait for thursday to see what happens!

Miranda wants to kill him and pick his liver. Being healthy and free the serial killer will behave the same (or similar)way.
This is illegal, unethical and against the rules.
Is silly Meredith going to help her? That certainly will
annoy the smarter Cristina. And Derek will be pissed off.
but we love them fighting.

Miranda will be the winner. She always does.

Most serial killers are socio or psycho paths which means that every single word that comes out of his moutn could be a lie. For example....he would not care if the boy lives or dies....he just wants to go out the easy way. It is all about him and what he wants.
Derek's argument is that he is not going to give this man what he wants. The man is after all on death row because he TOOK what he wanted, no matter what he had to do or whatever the cost.
Bailey's argument is that the resources to keep the serial killer alive, who will after all die in 5 days, are useless. If the man does not even want his last five days, who are they to make him keep them? More importantly, Bailey feels that by Derek making the choice to save the serial killer, he makes the choice to kill the innocent little boy who literally only has a few hours left.
If Derek saves the serial killer he has to live with saving someone so horrible (in his eyes) and denying organs to an innocent child. However, he does not violate his oath.
If Derek lets the serial killer die, he would have to live with himself for being an executioner instead of a surgeon (which lets face it...would not be easy for Derek to do in the long run), the child gets the organs, and he violates his oath.
Clearly a stick situaiton....clearly some good writing...
Can't wait for next week!

The doctors are not authorized by the society to execute, kill or
to assist suicides. But sometimes they do this.Out of some reasons. Like serial killers.
The medical doctors can kill by not saving intentionally

In the above case the reasons are humanistic. But it does not matter.Killing patients is wrong by any reasons .
Nevertheless they will do as they want.

I dont know who to agree with. I mean, i am pro capital punishment, but is he just going for the easy way? But is bailey just as bad for killing him? Would derek be the bad guy, because he is letting a killer live? Arent drs suposed to honour the patients wishes? Isnt the Gosh, i love things that make me think. This episode looks amazing. Great writing.
