Some Memorable Scenes From "All By Myself"

Last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy, "All By Myself," contained no shortage of memorable scenes, exchanges and moments, a couple of which we've posted below.

In the flrst clip, Alex is so excited about winning the solo surgery - but even more so at the prospect of telling Izzie he loves her and being there for her this time.

Of course, she's not really with it as Denny is there, watching the whole thing...

In the second clip, Lexie Grey expresses her deep admiration for Mark Sloan's surgical prowess, then gets assertive and asks him to teach her something else entirely ...

"All By Myself" From the Writer's Perspective

Grey's Anatomy writer Pete Nowalk, who authored last night's episode, has posted some thoughts on "All By Myself" on the show's official writers' blog for the fans.

Below is an excerpt, with a link to the full column at the bottom ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alex is still a little mysterious. He likes sex, yeah. He has a sick sense of humor, sure. He’s a pretty rotten communicator, no duh. But now we know he loves Izzie. Loooooves her.
Which he finally told her off the thrill of winning the solo surgery. Alex needed this win. This is the dude that failed his boards and froze during the heart surgery in the elevator. Winning the solo - and having Cristina of all people pick him – finally allowed Alex to believe in himself.
And with that came believing in himself with Izzie. Who makes him better.  Who gives him the warm and cozies inside. Who is still. Seeing. Denny.
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Or I don’t. But what I do know is that it’s confusing. Alex loves Izzie. He’s been good to her. SO WTF IS THAT GIRL THINKING? She’s not thinking. That’s the point. Because when we think we tend to screw things up. We over-think. Or under-think.
Or just think about thinking. And it’s exhausting. To the point where it’s easier to just shut your mind off sometimes, to just go with the flow.
Doctor Karev
So that’s what Izzie is doing. She’s throwing caution to the wind. She’s letting it ride. She’s saying F&$# IT! And I don’t blame her. Who knows how long Denny will be here, or when Alex will confront her about the bizarro behavior, or what - if anything - there is to learn from Denny while he’s here. So like Izzie, I’m choosing to say F%$# it. Go on, try it. Shout it.  Scream it to the rafters. F&%$^&^*^**&*#### IT!!!!!!!!! Feels good, right?
I don’t know about you but that moment right before Mark gave in - when he was trying with all his might to not do the thing he knew he shouldn’t do but oh-so-wanted to - was a window into the kinder, gentler McSteamy. Mark was trying to be good, for Derek and for himself.
But he’s also human. And he’s Mark. And Lexie was there. All vulnerable. All beautiful. All HALF NAKED. Hell, even I wouldn’t be able to deny her in that moment (and I bat for the other team). As long as Meredith and Derek don’t find out about these two.
Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Izzie-Denny Twist Revealed!
Grey's Anatomy watchers who don't want to know the big secret behind Denny Duquette's afterlife love affair with Izzie Stevens should turn back now.
Michael Ausiello of EW has gotten to the bottom of it.
It looks like creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes wasn't lying when she said last month that a brain tumor wasn't what was causing Izzie's strange case of seeing (and doing a whole lot more with) dead people. But she was also being a little sneaky.
That Smiling Face
But what could it be? Moreover, how does ABC feel about the plot line, and where is it going from here? Find out what's going on with Izzie after the jump ...
Kevin McKidd in Talks to Star in "Thor"
Grey's Anatomy star Kevin McKidd is in high demand these days.
The handsome Scottish actor and new cast member has reportedly emerged as the lead contender for the title role in upcoming Marvel Comics movie Thor.
The 35-year-old star, who rose to fame in Trainspotting, said that there has been "a lot of back and forth" on the project, but nothing has been signed yet.
Kevin McKidd, who also starred in NBC's Journeyman and the period TV series Rome, and has been mentioned as the lead character in a movie version of the latter as well, said it would be an exciting live-action venture under Kenneth Branagh's direction.
Thor, written by Mark Protosevich, is scheduled for release in June 2010. It revolves around medical student Donald Blake, whose alter ego is Norse god of thunder Thor.
As long as he sticks around as Owen Hunt, we wish Kevin the best!
Eric Stoltz to Guest Star on Grey's Anatomy
Looks like Izzie Stevens won't be the only crazy person roaming the halls of Seattle Grace come January: actor Eric Stoltz has recently been cast as a serial killer in need of immediate medical attention at Seattle Grace. Sounds intense even by SGH standards!
The future star of Sci-Fi's Caprica, who certainly proved he can play a believable sociopath in Pulp Fiction and Killing Zoe, will appear in three episodes of Grey' Anatomy.
Eric Stoltz' story line, which takes a surprising turn around the second of his three episodes, will raise a number of thorny ethical questions for McDreamy and company.
He didn't have to travel far for his audition: Stoltz has directed several Grey's Anatomy episodes this year, most recently "These Ties That Bind" on November 13.
Grey's Anatomy Forum: "All By Myself"
Plenty of relationships between characters (living and dead) and other story lines are up in the air as Grey's Anatomy heads into its last episode before the new year this evening.
In tonight's episode, "All By Myself," Denny is even more of a presence in Izzie's life than before. What's up with Lexie and Mark? And will Sadie and Callie become an item soon?
There's a lot of drama related to the big solo surgery, too, as the videos and photos we've posted previewing the episode makes quite clear. It should be very interesting to watch.
As always, you can discuss it before, during and after the show in our Grey's Anatomy forum, and/or by leaving comments on any of our posts. Let us know what's on your mind!
Tomorrow, we'll add our recap, quotes, more videos, a music guide and our Round Table discussion! Thanks for helping our site become web's #1 Grey's Anatomy community!
Sandra Oh Talks Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice
As we've talked about a couple of times, a multi-episode crossover between Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice is planned for February, and Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh is talking to People about who’s coming and who’s going.
“Crossover crazy!” Oh said of executive producer Shonda Rhimes’ plans to cross-pollinate the casts of her medical drama and its sophomore spin-off early in 2009.
Kate Walsh’s Dr. Addison Montgomery - who split from Seattle Grace to launch the spin-off and made one return trip last spring - is expected back in her old OR.
Interestingly, Oh revealed that Patrick Dempsey’s Dr. Derek Shepherd (a.k.a. McDreamy) will likely be making the trek to California's Oceanside Wellness Center.
“It has to do with Addison,” she said. “I think the Chief is going to visit, too,” she added, perhaps suggesting some unfinished business between Addison and Seattle Grace’s head of staff, Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.).
Oh also has a suggestion for the writers in case they want to send her character to Ocean Wellness Center to hook up with a handsome doctor.
